Hey i have just realized one strange thing: How did you travel to desert island while still raining?? You can even see the rain in the desert island which is not possible because 1) the sky is blue, 2) the ferry didn't do travels when it was raining

Not true, I own the original (American release called Twinsen's Odyssey) and you could very easily go to Desert Island during the storm. It easily did it as a child, and I didn't even know it was a bug.

@Skiminosflaw Well like Cannibal says, you can use the ferry while its raining, its a bug in the game as far as I know because you actually should free the lighthouse dude first to stop the rain.

it's close to $40 on E-bay. but it'd be fkn worth it. Cuz I remember playing this, I did only a few things right, but in the end I could never figure it out, and gave up. But now that im older im gonna take another shot at it.
I think this is one of the best games ever made. Scenery, characters, the plot, and really long time to pass if you play for the first time. And after you did it, with large satisfaction ofcourse, you could't look at this game for a long time. Because it cost lots of nerves :) I repeat - the best game ever next to the first part of Prince of Persia. Thx for the video. Brings memories...:)
Great speed-run. It takes alot of skill and patience to do any speed-run. My only problem, and i'll proberbly get thumbs down for this, is that i personally think you shouldn't abuse the bugs in the game. This is just my opinion though and everyones is different.
Overall, great speed-run, i've watched all parts (well re-watched them since i watched these YEARS ago) and i thouroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks a lot! I do agree that objectively it'd be nicer if the main LBA2 vids on youtube didn't abuse bugs. But from a person who knows what a speedrun entails and has played the game so much that breaking it was the only way to get something new out of it I didn't have much choice.
I may do a let's play in the future, hopefully having the best of both (it'll demonstrate bugs but not rely on them), so all tastes will be catered for in time!
As you're happy to utilise bugs, you could have utilised the "jump save bug" to get the jet pack and then get into the Esmers base. By doing this you'd never of had to save the lighthouse keeper, nor go to Zelich the "first" time.
You never know, you could even manage to get your speedrun to come in under an hour - now that'd be uber cool!
That's true, it's an amazing bug, there was quite a bit of discussion when I started but it makes it hard to define in terms of segmentation when you keep reloading saves. Ultimately it wasn't allowed under speed demos archive rules at the time (not sure about now), and I didn't want to completely break the game.
There was also a point at which I got stuck relying on this method, but I can't remember where or why. I might try it again sometime. Thanks for watching!
I did a poc run through using the jump/save bug to get to Esmer (is that the right name of the planet, I can't remember :| )
Didn't encounter any problems with having skipped all of Magic level 2, and not freeing the lighthouse keeper.
Didn't experience any abnormal effects when playing through the rest of the game.
BTW when you're getting the gasogem to get the Super jet pack, you can jump into the exit door from the top of the railing you jump over to get into the compound. -
Ahhhh, the part of the game where you get the car and free-roam the desert was so awesome! That was long before all the free-driving games like GTA became big, and this little car and a tiny desert felt like a whole world...
This made me remember a certain issue I always wondered about: is there any purpose to the temple of Bu at all, apart from housing the alien base? Like for instance, the INSANE rolle coaster ride, do you actually get anything from it?
I don't think you need any reasons for roller-coasters... It's probably there purely as a throwback to the first game where it played a fairly central role; housing traps protecting the Book of Bu, which proved Twinsen's worth and allowed him to communicate with animals. Now it's a tourist attraction!

Ummm... you gave me the idea to try this to and it worked, even if a bit slow. Have you copied all the music and voices from the disk to the hard drive? This may fix it but it is a good idea anyway.

Good job, it's nice to see it works consistently for anyone wanting to try it. Those are two very common questions, firstly I just cancelled the knock-back animation by holding a behaviour button and jumped in between damage, a trick that only works on these spikes. Secondly I just used the ticket on the ferry, it's an oversight by the programmers that leads to lots of weirdness but is exceptionally easy to pull off, try it if you want!
^^ well i tried to cancel the knock-back by using the sporty animation but it didnt work at all. second when i bought the ticket the ferry wasnt there.. could it be that the cam should not "hit" the place where the ferry is when you go into the house to buy the ticket. (sorry for my bad english)
I remember going to Computer City (Pre CompUSA) when this game came out and there were ads everywhere in the store for it so I decided to pick it up, I still got the CD in its case, still a great game, I think i'll play it now.

you have to turn into normal mode then sporty mode mid-air, and then jump agen immediately after landing (at least thats how i did it) :S

Great speed-run. It takes alot of skill and patience to do any speed-run. My only problem, and i'll proberbly get thumbs down for this, is that i personally think you shouldn't abuse the bugs in the game. This is just my opinion though and everyones is different.
Overall, great speed-run, i've watched all parts (well re-watched them since i watched these YEARS ago) and i thouroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks a lot! I do agree that objectively it'd be nicer if the main LBA2 vids on youtube didn't abuse bugs. But from a person who knows what a speedrun entails and has played the game so much that breaking it was the only way to get something new out of it I didn't have much choice.
I may do a let's play in the future, hopefully having the best of both (it'll demonstrate bugs but not rely on them), so all tastes will be catered for in time!

As you're happy to utilise bugs, you could have utilised the "jump save bug" to get the jet pack and then get into the Esmers base. By doing this you'd never of had to save the lighthouse keeper, nor go to Zelich the "first" time.
You never know, you could even manage to get your speedrun to come in under an hour - now that'd be uber cool!

That's true, it's an amazing bug, there was quite a bit of discussion when I started but it makes it hard to define in terms of segmentation when you keep reloading saves. Ultimately it wasn't allowed under speed demos archive rules at the time (not sure about now), and I didn't want to completely break the game.
There was also a point at which I got stuck relying on this method, but I can't remember where or why. I might try it again sometime. Thanks for watching!

I did a poc run through using the jump/save bug to get to Esmer (is that the right name of the planet, I can't remember :| )
Didn't encounter any problems with having skipped all of Magic level 2, and not freeing the lighthouse keeper.
Didn't experience any abnormal effects when playing through the rest of the game.
BTW when you're getting the gasogem to get the Super jet pack, you can jump into the exit door from the top of the railing you jump over to get into the compound. -

That saves loads of time, it's a tricky jump to master, but with a bit of practice it's fairly easy to pull off!

Ahhhh, the part of the game where you get the car and free-roam the desert was so awesome! That was long before all the free-driving games like GTA became big, and this little car and a tiny desert felt like a whole world...

This made me remember a certain issue I always wondered about: is there any purpose to the temple of Bu at all, apart from housing the alien base? Like for instance, the INSANE rolle coaster ride, do you actually get anything from it?

I don't think you need any reasons for roller-coasters... It's probably there purely as a throwback to the first game where it played a fairly central role; housing traps protecting the Book of Bu, which proved Twinsen's worth and allowed him to communicate with animals. Now it's a tourist attraction!

i downloaded dosbox.. did try to bring it to work for about 2h then it worked but without any sound.. all in all i am frustrated and had no fun with it^^

Ummm... you gave me the idea to try this to and it worked, even if a bit slow. Have you copied all the music and voices from the disk to the hard drive? This may fix it but it is a good idea anyway.

Good job, it's nice to see it works consistently for anyone wanting to try it. Those are two very common questions, firstly I just cancelled the knock-back animation by holding a behaviour button and jumped in between damage, a trick that only works on these spikes. Secondly I just used the ticket on the ferry, it's an oversight by the programmers that leads to lots of weirdness but is exceptionally easy to pull off, try it if you want!

^^ well i tried to cancel the knock-back by using the sporty animation but it didnt work at all. second when i bought the ticket the ferry wasnt there.. could it be that the cam should not "hit" the place where the ferry is when you go into the house to buy the ticket. (sorry for my bad english)

I remember going to Computer City (Pre CompUSA) when this game came out and there were ads everywhere in the store for it so I decided to pick it up, I still got the CD in its case, still a great game, I think i'll play it now.
