I feel in love with this breed when I had a pair come to one of my training classes. Lobo and his half sister Tammy were amazing dogs, and I still love seeing them, all grown up now. I someday hope to have one now, but only after I get a bigger yard ^^
I'm just curious, are they good with small animals (ferrets, birds, rats)? I had an English mastiff who died a month ago and he didn't mind them. I don't care if the dog likes them or not. All he/she has to do is accept their presence. The dog wouldn't always be around them anyway, as my small animals are mostly confined to my room with occasional visits outdoors.
@jbannow So your saying that the ruff does get more full like the wolf? I'm not sure if I have seen a picture of a Tamaskan with a ruff as full and shaped as identical to the wolf.
A lot depends on what type of wolf you are refering to, what season, what climate. When a Tamaskan has a full winter coat in arctic type conditions they have a fabulous coat. A Tamaskan raised in the southern parts of the USA, raised mainly indoors is not going to have the coat of an Arctic wolf. Same goes for a wolf from a tempid climate.
are there any good breeders in England? I have wanted like all the dog breed for like a week each but I love these dogs they look so nice I like wolves so looking for a dog that looks like a wolf and here they are so any good breeders in England if there are please comment to tell me like Liverpool and Manchester but any where is England would be good thanks
i love the Tamaskan dogs so much ^^ i want one so badly...problem is the place im staying is only just big enough for me and my brother, a dog like that is too big for a place like this.
@SpotSwims Yes, The Tamaksan Dog is breed by Registered breeders from the Tamaskan Dog Registry. The Tamaksan Wolfdog comes from a commercial Kennel who use various breeds to make the Tamaksan Wolfdog.
I got to know them last week on a Tamaskan meeting in Germany - still have goosebumps! They are so friendly und wolf-like in their behavior, it's hard to believe there's no wolf-blood in it. Thanks, Lynn Hardey for your great explanations about the breed. This is our next dog for sure!
I want this dog so badly! I originally wanted a wolfdog, but when I found out it can kill children and stuff, I happened to run into this wonderful breed at the time. It sucks my parents say I can't get one, instead I'm stuck with stupid, annoying little dogs >.< I prefer big dogs over little dogs any day. Little dogs are boring...
As far as I am concerned, keeping a real wolf is a crime against nature. I think the tamaskan breed is the perfect answer to wanting your own wolf without putting a wolf in a world it dosn't belong in.
@jmdnarri I have tried to tell many people that!lol. but they give the low-medium-high content stuff and that captive bred wolves and all this other breeding stuff. They really don't know when I say "Wolves belong in the wild, or they are naturally wild" they think I am crazy! I agree with you.
For some ppl who want a family dog that's easy to work with w & resemblence a wolve, that's probably great. But i'm not looking for a animal that's begging to follow my next command, i might as well get a shepherd. I want a animal that challenge my abilities as a dog trainer, so I can better understand them and canines. That is y i'm so drawn to wolves because they hold the key to what make a dog tick, but at even more advance level. If you could understand a wolf you could understand any dog!
@nikigurl08, saying that wolves are dogs in every way is like saying "I want to improve my parenting, let's see how Chimps do it!". Look up Ian Dunbar.
Hey those dogs are beautiful. I want one in the UK but I don't know if there are breeders as these guys are new. The best thing about them is the wolf-like appearance without their temperament. Is there anything particular to these dogs, do they howl a lot?
@MrTigerMask you are in luck! most of the breeders are in the UK (the founders of the breed live there now) so it's relatively easy to get a pup, compared to other places. Just visit the Tamaskan Dog Register to see a list of registered breeders. Tamaskans are generally very quiet dogs, they don't bark but they do vocalize... not to be annoying, but to communicate with you. It's amazing. My two tamaskans "talk" to me all the time. They only howl if they are left alone for hours on end...
They're obviously not wolves, but at a glance they look like them, which is awesome. The beauty of a wolf with the personality and heart of a dog. Probably just as big a price tag, though. xD
I'm hoping that there'll be some pups for sale when I've got my own house. I'm an experienced dog owner and I've already got one wee mongrel, but it'd be nice to have something that's intelligent, yet not be so smart as to question every command. xD
I am overwhelmed..I did not know this breed before and just discovered it through your great video (the music fits so well!). This breed is like a dream comes true. A dog looking like a wolf and kind and intelligent at the same time. Greetings from Germany
I own Sampo, who can be viewed elsewhere in YouTube. I feel very privileged to have such an attractive and unbelievably gentle, yet fun dog in my life. He is my dream come true and quite a bit more.
Currently nobody in Australia is breeding. We expect a breeder shortly. Until then you may want to import from the UK or the USA. Please check with the Tamaskan Dog Registry.
This is an amazing dog; although some of them look more like wolves than others; if I ever buy one; I want it to look like a wolf as much as possible, like the dog at 1min.57.

Tamaskans are (physiologically) in fact one of the most wolf-like dog breeds.
Spooonth 2 years ago
@gwenleblanc The looks do have a bit of wolf, not from wolfs as we have one wich is a cross, german sheperd with huskey.
