  • Science has now proven that all life has evolved from simpler organisms.

    The Bible is just myth.

The Earth is flat, say some. Teach the controversy!

    Religious superstition is dying out.

The Internet. Where religion comes to die.

  • Creation Science? WTF is that? It's Faith and has NOTHING to do with science. fucking morons, wrong on every level.

  • Duayne Motherfucking Gish. What a dumb shit.

  • I was waiting for someone to point out that the Creationists were lying when they said that the bill had nothing to do with religion. The lawyer came close. And when the Creationists kept saying that there was no evidence, I would have liked to ask them whether they were being dishonest, or simply didn't know the field well enough.

  • Oh snap Dr Scott was a cutie back in the day!!

  • Kill everyone who works on the Sabbath

    Exodus 31:15

    Isaiah 40:8

    1 Peter 1:24-25

    Psalm 19:7

  • Kill everyone who does not believe in God

    Deut 17:2-7

    Deut 13:13-19

    Lev 24:16

  • It is clear Dr. Scott was still developing the strength of her argument. I find it amazing that she has been at this for so long. She must be very tired. I am grateful for her work though.

  • I love that part where the guy goes "lots of people

thought the earth was flat" and Genie responds:

    "Many creationists still do!".

  • Genie is so pretty.

  • Wait, I want to hear about the superb ham....

  • That dude of Petland at 23:32 looks like Borat...

  • Ugh..the 80's commercials are killing me

  • Hehe dr Gish has a phD in Truthology at Christian Tech :)

  • Sad how biased Arthur Miller was. Also, just shows how very old the creationists' lies are.

  • @20:30, "..it's a myth, it's a fairy tale. You make it sound like religion."

  • I love how that stupid audience woman at the end literally almost caught herself trying to say "scientists are unscientific" in defense of creationism. [25:27]

  • Wow I don't know if I was drawn into the argument or the commercials. Such old commercials.... I even remember some of these.

  • Eugenie is a total fox

  • The first thing that struck me about this is how the creationist arguments are exactly the same things I still hear repeated on the internet today. They are no more valid back then than they are now!

  • It really is just shocking that this was really the argument that was being made in favor of 'creation science'. I mean, I think intelligent design's arguments are particularly weak today. But this?

  • The infamous "Gish Gallop" in all its glory (??). What a slimeball. Go Genie!

  • I just love Genie Scott, she's such an inspiration. This was '87?! The years have been so kind to Dr. Scott!

  • People who would lie for their religion are the most manipulative people in this world. Listening to the two creationist they are distorting the facts and taking things out of context.

  • 23 years and still hot as ever. Plus, the retro commercials were pretty fun to watch!

  • The stupidity and double-talk of the creationists are nauseating and they're still at it: same idiocy with a new coat of paint.

  • @sornord and with a new toupe ..

  • I just love Genie Scott, she's an inspiration. This was '87?! The years have been so kind to Dr. Scott.

  • I am asking my girlfriend to get me a Lifetime Membership in the NCSE next month for my birthday.

The best part of this video is knowing that Eugenie Scott is still at it...

  • Very telling that creationists' arguments haven't grown since then.

  • Scientists, when speaking to the public, should use the vulgar definitions:

Evolution is a fact, not 'just a theory'.

There is so much evidence for Natural Selection that it amounts to proof.

There is so much evidence against the biblical accounts of creation that it has been proven untrue.

If there was some act of creation at some point, it is so far indistinguishable from natural processes which include both chance and the action of natural physical 'laws'.

  • Speaking in the uncertainties required of scientific methodology does much more harm than good. Scientists can understand the vernacular, but the laity don't understand the technical language of science and twist reality ass backwards.

  • "Neither side can totally prove their claim or disprove the other's." Er, bullshit.

  • At 27:00. Utter ignorance or just uniformed.

  • What a pathetic farce, as these forums always turn out to be. Reminds me of all of Lee Strobel's pathetic materials. Pompous and ignorant creationists, some bombastic and equally ignorant lawyer evading logic, exasperated scientists.

  • The problem with laysman is that they don't know that they're not professionals.

  • Same old lies from the Creationist camp. So sad.

  • "A tadpole" ...? What a total caricature. This host is an imprudent loudmouth...!

  • SSDD - Same Sh!t, Different Decade.

The only thing that doesn't evolve is creationism. It's own self-fulfilling prophecy.

  • From Eugenie's personal video collection, no doubt!

  • Words like "theory" and "prove" are among the most abused in the English language.

A "theory" is not just an opinion or a guess. It's a broad, general assumption based upon scientific evidence. And all one can do is either support it or refute it. One cannot "prove" a theory.

In fact, "proof" is when you show someone enough evidence to convince her/him. There are many people for whom there will never be enough evidence to convince them of Evolution. That's because they won't / can't reason.

  • I am regularly amazed that the arguments for creationism have not changed. Years after this was made, you can still hear the same tired accusations and rationale. Dr. Scott has the patience of Job to patiently explain these fallacies years after year. And yes, Dr. Scott is a nerd nd that is part of what makes her so hot.

  • the sad thing is after 24 years, the arguments for creation haven't changed, but since 86 we have developed DNA evidence that confirms evolution. and yet the controversy still remains.

  • "Neither side can totally prove its point"?!

  • Good grief, that was bad. I feel genuinely sorry for Genie, she should have at the very least been given enough time to explain her case - as it stands, the show made the goddamn CREATIONISTS seem progressive, scientific and inquiring.

I don't envy you, America, if this is what passes for a factual show.

  • @int3rl0per First of all, this is ONE program, and it was taped more than 23 years ago. Second, there's no need to resort to national stereotypes. Finland has its fair share of non-scientific ideas, you know.

If you pick up a snail and it pokes its eyes out after you ask, "Etana, etana näytä sarves, onko huomenna pouta?" (snail, snail show your horns, will it be sunny tomorrow?"), it will be sunny. If not, expect rain. Sound familiar?

  • @Sheldonwh, oh yes - the difference here, is that nobody actually believes the snail to actually have anything to do with the weather.

And if anyone does, they get laughed out of the goddamn country.

There is a difference between remembering old sayings and superstitions, and ignoring reality when it looks you straight in the face.

And yes, this was shown 23 years ago, but the same "debate" continues to this day.

  • If you choose to look at the differences, so be it. My point is, people like James Randi travel ALL OVER THE WORLD fighting nonsense. It might make you feel better about yourself by bashing Americans, but it only serves to perpetuate a stereotype...you know, like "Finns are all boring and eat fish for breakfast." And by the way, most of this crap comes from the South, which is an entirely different culture than the rest of the U.S., something you Europeans never quite seem to grasp.

  • I've been wondering why the NCSE has dug these out of the archives. After have seen them it seems that they are highlighting that the arguments used by the old-school biblical creationists are exactly the same ones modern ID advocates use; "teach the controversy", "academic freedom", claims of censorship, etc etc.

But of course the two are completed unrelated.

    *Nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

  • How can Gish just go on TV and lie? Even excusing the "no transitional fossils" canard, on what basis does he claim the fossil record shows that "each one of the major types of plants and animals have appeared fuly-formed right from the start?" Is he referring to the Cambrian? If he is how can an event well over 3 billion years after the first life be "the start?" As a YEC which day of the creation week does he think the Cambrian is?

  • Wow, the arguments have not changed for the religious at all while scientists have gained more evidence for science.

  • Eugenie, you were sexy in this video. ;)

  • Eugenie is a nerd, not a whore, so mind your penis.

  • @HDuyNguyen lol

Even a nerd likes to hear a compliment every once in a while.

  • man. some things just never change.

also is it just me or has eugenie aged really well?

  • That host is such a prick :\

  • Damn, twenty-seven bucks for an installed muffler is a steal.

  • I can't find a date on this, but it has to have been before 1987 and the Edwards vs. Aguilard trial. It declared that creation science was an expression of religion, and the creationists switched to Intelligent Design.

Besides, Eugenie's much younger then she appears today (but none the less beautiful, I will hasten to add). One can also see Duane starting to work out the famous Gish gallop dodges. Evolution in action, indeed.

  • @puncheex

I'd have to disagree. She looks like 5 years younger than she actually is.

  • Yes - this Louisiana decision that was looming in their future was Edwards (Gov of LA) vs Aguilard. Creation Science was declared by the SCOTUS to be religious, just as it was in the similar Arkansas case MacLean vs Arkansas, and as Intelligent Design was in the Dover trial.

  • @puncheex the muffler commercial says copy write 1986

  • thanks for posting, give us more.

  • It is still two subjects ,That means two different classrooms.

  • Sad how little creationists have evolved since then, some age old arguments.

We don't teach that holocaust didn't take place for the same reason that we don't teach creationism.

The host wasn't so smart either, science doesn't "prove" something in absolute sense like dr. Scott tied to explain.

  • Come on guys, you can edit out the commercials.

  • The answer to his question after 12:10, I would have answered instantly "You share a merged chromosome, number 2 to be exact, with a chimpanzee, 35% of your DNA with a Tulip/Daffodil (I forget, sorry), 50% with cauliflower, and about 60-75% with a crocodile. We have a clear lineage from fossil evidence. Now say the scientific definition of theory and ask if they really do have a theory."

  • @HomoCyborgZombie Today, I would too say that, this was 1980's or something, chimpanzee genome wasn't sequenced yet.

  • @Saukko31 Let alone cauliflower :P

  • commercials : /

  • woot... new NCSE vid :D
