spend as much time with them as you can :) you can also clip their wings so they're more dependent on you... but I prefer to keep mine unclipped ;) you can also wear gloves to show them that their biting is uneffective until they get used to you :)

The problem with my albino is that every other day he would break a blood feather because kept his wings clipped. I stopped clipping them and he hasn't broken a feather since. But he's so cute. When get home he starts chirping really loud . (:

I always here that large animals with slower metabolisms live longer, but birds seem to present an exception. a cockatiel can live in excess of 30 years, puting it in the same ball park as a horse while for a mammal the same size like a hamster, a life span of over 5 years is considered exceptional. could someone explain this to me???

Repeating the same tune over and over again and rewarding when it sings something that comes somewhat close to it seems like a good solution, though our cockatiel never came further than doing that "I love you" whistle.

Oh no, don't leave them in there! If you do not spend time holding AND talking to your cockatiels daily, you won't ever be able to take them out. They'll be bitter and mean, and they will try to bite you! You should try and hold them as often as you can (regularly putting them back in the cage to eat and drink) so that they will get to know you better. After you have established a good relationship with your 'tiels, they should be very affectionate and loving!

Im about to get a bird and I dont know whether to get a quaker or a cockatiel. Someone Help!!! I hear that cockatiels are good whistlers and dont bite that much and like to be cuddled while quakers are good at learning tricks and talking but bite alot and can become territorial.
