  • PROPELLERHEAD 4 LIFE GREAT INSIGHT JB IZ DA MANN!!

  • Good tip!! :-)

  • great tip number 40

  • where did u get that patch in the song playing..i love that bassey lead sound...??

  • awsome ,,,thankx

  • I've been looking for tutorials like this for ages. Thanks alot PropellerheadSW! SUBSCRIBED.

  • Powerful Tut.

  • I FAIL with EQ. and mastering xD

  • Yep, this is the one I missed... or misunderstood the three times i watched it. But.. BINGO! Many thanks, JB. P-SW, thanks for One1Text hint on the Reason Box.

Now, here's to TIME listening with my eyes closed.

"Adaptation, Improvisation, but my weakness is not my technique.... hmmm"

    Soon, One1Byke.

  • so do u guys prefer to use the compressor on the mixing board or throw a mclass compressor? or use eq from master class? on vocals or drums or instruments

  • Oh Crap. I'm in the middle of a song and put the M class EQ as a send effect. Now you tell me that there's an EQ there already!

Well, live and learn I guess.

  • @deanc2000 You probably don't want the EQ as a send effect because send effects blend the effect with the original. They're used to add a little reverb to a sound, for example. But if you want to effect the entire sound like you would with EQ, compression, limiters, or distortion... you probably want an insert effect and not a send effect. Inserts route the entire audio signal away, effect it, and then return it back to the channel. There's no blending like with send effects. Just 100% effect.

  • thanks so much for these tutorials.

  • Genio!! Tremendo tutorial! Gracias!

  • i have ran the video back multiple times to this part talking about the Bell, i still don't understand what the "E" button represents, turning it yoff means that it will Bypass the LMF section right? or is it just the opposite ?

  • @Rane909 No, the E button sets the EQ section to a slightly different mode. From the Operation manual:

"In normal mode (E button deactivated), the Gain setting will affect the bandwidth (Q) for the HMF and LMF EQ sections. The higher the gain, the narrower the bandwidth and vice versa. With E mode activated, bandwidth is constant at all gain settings, which provides more gentle slopes."

This difference can be very subtle depending on context - sometimes it doesn't matter at all.

  • Thanks James.

  • Say I wanted to have 3 different kits cued up to record , would I need 3 KONG to do this?

  • i wish I had somthing t o mix!!! CAn the ssl mixer be used for the final mix and mastering? It's funny , no one mentions record anywhere for mixing or even as a DAW.... I don't see this discussion anywhere.

  • @tintala Sure you can mix on Record's mixer. It's awesome for it, actually. Modeling the 9000k means you have access to very nice dynamics, EQ, and master bus compression. For mastering, you'd want to throw an M-Class Mastering Suite Combinator on the Master Inserts. That will let you run through the limiter, compressor, and Mastering EQ. Thanks!

  • @PropellerheadSW thank you ! I really DO LOVE REcord, it's so addictive ......but I still wonder why when one mentions "DAW" PH SW and reason is not mentioned.. maybe because R-5 is so new..

  • Please, turn the music up and turn the talking down. I get that talking should be louder, but it'd be nice to be able to hear the effect of what you're doing.

  • Thanks James & PH! Every week I look forward to these tutorials...

This week it's great to see that EQing just a little in the mix, makes such a big difference... I think until now I've been a bit heavy handed with cutting and boosting.r

One thing I hoped to see was advice on whether it's advisable to only use the SSL EQ or whether an MClass as a send effect might be used at the same time...

  • A little correction here...

I mention that the "E" button affects the HF/LF EQ.. that's actually not correct! See below.

“E” button When the “E” button is activated the EQ will have slightly different curve characteristics. In normal mode (E button deactivated), the Gain setting will affect the bandwidth (Q) for the HMF and LMF EQ

sections. The higher the gain, the narrower the bandwidth and vice versa. With E mode on, bandwidth is

constant at all gain settings, which provides more gentle slopes.

  • @jamesbernardmusic Hi James thanks again for the help. I'm still not clear on the "E" and "Bell" buttons. Are you saying that the bell button just changes the shape of the curve to more bell-shaped than normal curve? ie a faster drop of close to the centre freq then shallower drop off further from the centre? Like a hi Q but the total eq bandwidth stays the same as a low Q? Also for the "E" button I don't understand the point as couldn't i just change the Q setting to get the same result? Thanks

  • Good show! Visually understandable as well. Maybe you can ask the guys to make small board that looks like Record with all the knobs and faders and able to control Reason with it. That would be amazing..

  • Great show I hope you continue in a similar fashion when the year ends, I've learned so much from this (not just Reason) but generaly music "theory" :) Can you put somewhere the link to Italo style 1 Reason file, it's awesome! I'd just like to know how to get that sweet sound of synth/piano in the beginning. Thanks.

  • Great tips this week!

  • I personally feel that my mixes are what let's my music down - I will be sure to study and incorporate these techniques as they really are essential.

  • Thanks James !!!

    Gonna watch over & over.

Very Clear & Easy to understand

  • very good tip this week!

  • I am addicted to you tutorials, as I know they will make my Reason/record knowledge better each time, for free! I am really glad I don't have to pay thousands to get first hand knowledge (berklee).. Once I master this, I will be spending 10-12 hrs a day on it. thanks./

  • I have been doing a lot more experimenting with EQ. This video gave me some ideas. Thanks for sharing!

  • It's week 40 already :(

  • @Twentysixbillion - I know!! I was thinking the same...

  • Great tips! And I dig the song too!!

  • NOOOOO!! only 12 videos left!! you need to change the title to "104 Reason/Record Tips" :):)

  • James. This has helped me out so much... As I am using Record 7 days a week.. AND I DO MEAN 7 days a week. 15 to 20 hours a day! I was just about to buy the waves plug in for Pro Tools just before the release of Record.. ANd I might still buy it just to have it on both of my D.A.W's

  • @snapshot1 I left out the Waves SSL plug in for pro tools

  • Thanksgiving was a sad time without you.

  • I've enjoyed learning about Reason/Record from your weekly videos. Thanks!
