  • Does 672 also respond during the day with the vols ? Depending on the call ?

  • That's my understanding.

  • Comment removed

  • 672 Will soon be on the run 24/7 as alot of volunteer members work shift work and are available during the day

  • paid guys at waitemata station had 2 full time ,but the other two thay need for a shift was over time. now thay have 4 guys that are on the same shift . but thay never run with less than 4. the strobe is a traffic light pre-empion system that does not work anymore lol was a trial that failed

  • Interesting, thanks for the info. That trial must have been in south Aucks right? I think the trucks that have it were originally stationed at Papatoetoe, Manurewa, etc.

  • FYI : Waitemata is a Yellow Watch station which means during daytime hours there are four career firefighters that ride on 671 and afterhours and weekends are covered by Volunteer staffing who have rostered shifts riding both 671 and 672 trucks.

The call you see 671 going to was manned by volunteer firefighters responding as fourth pump to mulitipul calls structure fire in Hendersons district.

  • Hae chris is this volly or career

  • Hae TheFireRescue1, did you read my reply to dmmmac2's question?

    And the video description?

  • Sorry bro

  • Is there another light on the roof near the right hand revolver something flashing fast a mini strobe or similar

  • Just looking at some pics of the appliance there is a wee black box on the roof

  • Good spotting, I assume that strobe is for better intersection and driveway visibility. Its also fitted to Henderson 657 and the current Avondale 607... Some North American emergency vehicles have similar strobes for traffic light pre-emption systems.

  • Hey Chris, is Waitemata the only station that has paid and volunteer firefighters, or are others in Auckland as well?

  • There are quite a few to my knowledge, most of the suburban stations that have more than one pump, i.e. Birkenhead, Devonport, East Coast Bays, Henderson... There was a page on the old NZFS website that colour-coded the stations according to career, volly, and mixed, but its not included in the new site, at least I can't find it. I love the classy new look of their site, but its slow and hard to find what you want, and many of the features don't work properly. One step forward, one step back...

  • I've found it just now - you look down the right hand side of the site when you're on a certain station's page and it has "career firefighters" and "volunteer firefighters" then the numbers - 2 career guys for Waitemata? I thought they would have had a proper crew of 4. Maybe they just run 671 as 1 and 1?

  • I highly doubt they'd run a career pump with only two crew. I also doubt that info is 100% accurate and up-to-date. It would take an incredible amout of admin time to keep all that info updated, and I doubt the NZFS has the resources for that. I'll have to ask this guy I know who is a volly there.

  • Answome video, is that station got a violunteer alarm as well?

  • Thanks dude! Finally got a clip of my local rig after about 15 years...

Waitemata 671 is manned during the day, but volunteers run this and 672 the rest of the time. Pagers only I'm afraid, this station is right on the edge of the suburbs. The next closest stations, Greenhithe and Kumeu rural, are volly only and have sirens which I think are still used.
