Our gasoline is refined from lower quality crudes, and even pre-used crude oil. It's also cut with other chemicals and burning agents like ethanol because it cannot meet 'burn' standards on it's own.

$5/gal won't happen. I remember people saying $5/gal would come in 2008, and it just never happened. Even in a better economy demand trailed off when gas hit the $4ish/gal mark back in 2009. Geopolitics might temporarily force the price of fuel up that high, but the market won't sustain it. And if $5/gal gas forces policy makers to find more energy domestically, then that's a good thing.
I for one kind of like the recent Lincoln Car models. Specifically that grill. If you think that is flashy go look at any current Acura, and tell me which looks better from the front. Acuras stopped looking good around 2008 or so, just around the time when Lincolns started looking good. That Ford building on the other hand looks like a boom box! I live in Toronto, Canada and I have family in Germany and Austria. I know how much petrol is over there because of them and that is why I wouldn't dare to complain about the prices over here compared to the ones across the pond. Okay, maybe I complain a little bit.
In Germany the gas has been $8 per gallon for a while and in other European countries it's even more expensive so stop crying too much ;) oh and, we still drive Porsche's etc......

This is not going to help America's ailing economy. The current world economy in so interconnected you too will notice this in your wallet.
yeah... well our transit system is about 200 years behind yours... actually probably more like 1000 years... I pay about $400 a month for gas, if goes to $5 a gallon, it would be around $650 a month... thats more than a freakin house payment...

Valid point, but keep in mind that in America, people commute a lot further for work, school, etc because America is simply huge. Also, on average, hourly pay here is less than Europe, relatively speaking. Also, our cars use a lot more fuel consumption (partly our fault for buying gas guzzlers), and we have less readily available public transportation access than the UK.
@Toxxic88 maybe... but we (not UK though) also pay a lot of ownership tax (I have to pay $ 234 per quarter for my '93 BMW 325i convertible). Combine that with the insane prices for gasoline and it's becoming increasingly impossible to own a car in this country (The Netherlands)

That's the equivalent of $9.06 per gallon. Also the average commuting distance in the US is hardly different than the UK. For MOST American drivers, your average daily driving is 35 - 50 miles, that is the same average for us in the UK and Ireland.

@Capstickk I have a question in response to your comment. How much do you drive where you are at and are there viable public transit options. Huge portions of the US don't have any other options to get to work besides driving a car and the commutes can be quite extensive.
For my personal situation, I work about 20 miles from my home in a location that has no buses or trains. The only viable option to get to work is to drive.

In my country, gas is 1.7€ per litre. That's roughly $8 a gallon... And you guys complain about the gas price? Here's a saving tip: drop the big engines and use fuel efficient ones. Europe and Japan have been at it for years, and it clearly works. That's what I've done. Small engine for the daily drive, bigger engine for the weekend toy.
I am from Europe and I have been in the US. It is true that you Americans drive much much more distance on average but it is at speeds of around 60mph. You do not need big petrol V8s for this type of driving. Since even at 5$ a gallon the fuel is gonna be still cheaper than in Europe just switch to diesel 4s and V6s and you will not feel the increase of fuel so much and you will still comfortably cruise at 60mph. IMHO a diesel engine is the better choice for any car besides the performance ones.

Half price cars and $5 a gallon gas. Poor Americans. It was fun to visit and drive 2500 miles it costing next to nothing, then coming back home and filling my 17 gallon gas tank at home and it costing like 130 bucks. Honestly, I almost cried.
I know it gets a bit skewed due to taxes and wages being totally different, but I'm giving away half my money in taxes as it is and I still can't do what I enjoy, drive, a lot.
@ChickenCritters I live in Slovenia which is one of the biggest countries in Europe...lol. Petrol here is 95 and 100 octane unleaded. I don't think octane numbers differ much between EU countries.
Oh no $5 dollars a gallon this is SUCH A TRAGEDY! How can I afford to drive my H2 while creeping on an L.A Freeway for 3 hours? I converted it into litres and it works out to $1.35/ litre (excluding additional taxes). Prices are like that right now ($1.40/L in Canada). This is why EV are going to be more enticing. The electric Focus is coming soon. Also gas prices are controlled by the companies who are just gouging us because Iran is a convenient excuse. Most oil comes from US & Alberta, Canada

2:50 how do we know that indicates a drowsy driver? I call this FUCKING bullshit! Not you guys on your reporting, but that these fucking politicians get away with so much bs! I can almost guarantee foul play was involved..... intentional speeding, drugs (pharmaceuticals or not), etc, etc.
I've driven drowsy before.... nothing to be proud of at all, but the faster I went, the more alert I tried to be. No one is gonna be cruising at 75mph and somehow hit over 100 simply from DROWSINESS.....

With an exchange rate of one pound sterling equal to 1.55 dollars you are paying 7.78 a gallon. When fuel cost rise all consumer goods rise to compensate for the increased shipping costs. This is not going to help America's ailing economy. The current world economy in so interconnected you too will notice this in your wallet.

yeah... well our transit system is about 200 years behind yours... actually probably more like 1000 years... I pay about $400 a month for gas, if goes to $5 a gallon, it would be around $650 a month... thats more than a freakin house payment...

@Capstickk When most of us are only making about $9 an hour in a failing economy, with no chances of raises or new jobs, and social security no longer guaranteed, and drive the only cars we can afford averaging 20 mpg with city driving, public showing no enthusiasm towards diesel, and everything costing more from parking, stickers, plates, insurance, utility bills, food, and then school rates keep climbing, as does public transportation ... then yes ... we will keep complaining.

Valid point, but keep in mind that in America, people commute a lot further for work, school, etc because America is simply huge. Also, on average, hourly pay here is less than Europe, relatively speaking. Also, our cars use a lot more fuel consumption (partly our fault for buying gas guzzlers), and we have less readily available public transportation access than the UK.
In the end, it all equals out I guess...

@Toxxic88 maybe... but we (not UK though) also pay a lot of ownership tax (I have to pay $ 234 per quarter for my '93 BMW 325i convertible). Combine that with the insane prices for gasoline and it's becoming increasingly impossible to own a car in this country (The Netherlands)

@Toxxic88 You may be complaining about $5 a gallon but for the likes of us, we're the ones that should be bitchin. Petrol, that I have seen is up to €1.69 per litre! That's the equivalent of $9.06 per gallon. Also the average commuting distance in the US is hardly different than the UK. For MOST American drivers, your average daily driving is 35 - 50 miles, that is the same average for us in the UK and Ireland.

@Capstickk I have a question in response to your comment. How much do you drive where you are at and are there viable public transit options. Huge portions of the US don't have any other options to get to work besides driving a car and the commutes can be quite extensive.
For my personal situation, I work about 20 miles from my home in a location that has no buses or trains. The only viable option to get to work is to drive.
Stupid character limit: Our older/cheaper cars are bigger.

In my country, gas is 1.7€ per litre. That's roughly $8 a gallon... And you guys complain about the gas price? Here's a saving tip: drop the big engines and use fuel efficient ones. Europe and Japan have been at it for years, and it clearly works. That's what I've done. Small engine for the daily drive, bigger engine for the weekend toy.

I am from Europe and I have been in the US. It is true that you Americans drive much much more distance on average but it is at speeds of around 60mph. You do not need big petrol V8s for this type of driving. Since even at 5$ a gallon the fuel is gonna be still cheaper than in Europe just switch to diesel 4s and V6s and you will not feel the increase of fuel so much and you will still comfortably cruise at 60mph. IMHO a diesel engine is the better choice for any car besides the performance ones.

Half price cars and $5 a gallon gas. Poor Americans. It was fun to visit and drive 2500 miles it costing next to nothing, then coming back home and filling my 17 gallon gas tank at home and it costing like 130 bucks. Honestly, I almost cried.
I know it gets a bit skewed due to taxes and wages being totally different, but I'm giving away half my money in taxes as it is and I still can't do what I enjoy, drive, a lot.

Oh no $5 dollars a gallon this is SUCH A TRAGEDY! How can I afford to drive my H2 while creeping on an L.A Freeway for 3 hours? I converted it into litres and it works out to $1.35/ litre (excluding additional taxes). Prices are like that right now ($1.40/L in Canada). This is why EV are going to be more enticing. The electric Focus is coming soon. Also gas prices are controlled by the companies who are just gouging us because Iran is a convenient excuse. Most oil comes from US & Alberta, Canada

@kmica2008 Well then. It looks like we must venture out and acquire another cable from Ford. I'm sure there's an AC power plug built in to the EV for just such an occasion. I'm sure everyone in this day and age own an extension cord. Petrol/Gas is only going to go higher. In the future, there will be electric charging stations and most likely there will be special parking spaces that charge the car by induction. People are hesitant about EV's but that's simply because it's new.

The Ford Fusion v6 is a nice car. I drive one frequently, but even with body style changes, suspension tuning, paint color differences and interior upgrades, I wouldn't buy a Lincoln version of this car. For that matter, I wouldn't buy any upscale Lincoln version of the base car.
