Was in the USAF stationed in Germany. Was in East Anglia during Falklands War and went to Spain and ended up watching Argentina- Hungary play in Alicante after a few days in Benidorm. Didnt play up that I was an American all that much. It was a blast.
Wow. 1982. Our first World Cup in years. We were 6 teenagers (just) and we bunked the train to Spain for the World Cup. The Falklands war was in progress when we left. Liverpool to London, London to Newhaven, ferry to France, train to Paris and finally another train from Paris to Bilbao. When we won the group we got another train to Madrid, and then we had a 6 day wait for our next game so hundreds of England fans got the midnight train to Alicante and the Orange Express to Benidorm. Brilliant!!
I remember this song vividly. I thought it was very catchy and the line "this time ..." has never left me and the catch is ... I'm Scottish! It brings back memories. I'm 37 now! Hopefully no jerks will make anti Scottish or English comments on this page. Let's just have a bit of nostalgia. Does anyone know what the music was called for the 1978 BBC World Cup theme?
A very underated Football Song that comes in for far too much critisism. Maybe not as good as World In Motion or Three Lions but on a par with Back Home in my opinion. A Happy Tune.

If only we had had Cloughie in charge we might have got it right and won the thing in 1982 with respect to Ron Greenwood.

Did I hear kazoos from 1:06 to 1:17? There's nothing like an all-American instrument to cheer on the English national soccer squad!
