  • Perfect!

  • i have a couple of buckland books, and i practice magic, revere the goddess and god, i consider myself more pagan than wiccan, though

  • When I first initiated myself, I thought my path was Wicca and I wrote to Raymond. He sent me back a hand written letter - personally addressed to me - and I was extremely impressed by that! Since then (it was 14 years ago) I have taken to calling myself Pagan as I feel it's more of how I view myself and beliefs. Either way, we are on the same path! Blessed Be and thank you for posting! )O(

  • i love Raymond Buckland.. he is the best. i have many of his books. omg

  • greetings to all,, wonderful video,, after two years in paranormal hunting its great to be back..

  • I'd love to go to that Expo! I wonder when it's going to be held in 2011 :D

  • I must admit that I do not ALWAYS agree with Buckland's views but...he was my first read on Wicca...Gods, that was at least 16 or 17 years ago. My first book on Wicca was Bucklands good ol' Big Blue Book as I call it. He really is an excelent writer and has a great personality...even if some of his older rituals were a little dry, hehe. Love your works Raymond! Would recommend him to any beginner...along with other authors like Scott Cunningham

  • @JaidenFoxx That was my first book as well. Must be 14 years ago now! :)

  • Notice when the camera man talks raymond buckland has a look of 100% focus. straight silence. " THE CHRISTAINS who will never except anything but their own beliefs." yes this gets annoying specialy when they try to tell you ur going to hell for not beliving their nonsense.

  • Raymond Buckland is amazing. i agree with what he said about fluffy bunnies and the dilution of the religion, it does seem after the first few months of my research into the religion, nothing new came out but spells, and it becomes very solitary because almost everyone i run into seems to be only in it for the spell casting, and i'm in it for the spirituality and nature. oh well. thanks for posting this, made me smile

  • woohoo!! its Uncle Bucky!!!

  • @noblewulfff pussy-WIPED? That sounds like it'd be a _good_ thing.

  • @noblewulfff Nice way to prove your point. It sounds like you're on the right path...

  • @NocturnalAngel77 blunt truth..its all about the solar cults!!!!!!!!

  • @NocturnalAngel77 Just make sure the path is narrow ;)

  • @tiarnan76 Indeed! :)

  • i wish i ment raymond buckland i love his books!!!!!!!!

  • uncle bucky is great blessed be

  • Wonderful post...Glad I found this channel...Subscribed

  • An extraordinary man. extrordinary.

  • Oh, I love Raymond Buckland, he was the first, wiccan, gypsy, I ever read about !!!

    Blessings Love Lil xxx

  • @lillyearth

I know what you mean, I had the same experience !

    BB

    Lady

  • I never cease to be amazed by the closed minds of such well worded people! There are plenty of traditional elements to ANY religion- dress, holidays, ect- so who is anyone to judge anything that anyone does? Who cares if you wear robes? Its so immaturley materialistic to judge something like that!!! Spirituality is found within yourself- not in a robe, spell, church, on a cross or brochure etc-

  • You are so lucky to have been able to talk to him. I'm so envious.

  • @jakariDarkstar what the hell are you talking about?? calm the fuck down!

  • made this video a fave!

  • @jakariDarkstar I was thinking more on the lines of having a war and wipe your kind out, before you wipe us all out, trust me, not all of us pagans are innocent fluffy bunnies, some of us will cut off your balls if you mess with us.....

  • @elguerreromuisca You would be fun to play with. We could both get knives and seal ourselves in a cage and carve each other up like christmas turkeys ;)

I didn't say I have a problem with pagans. I have a problem with wiccans. Wiccans. You have a nice one.

  • @jakariDarkstar know my frien, that even thought Im asatruar, Iknow some wiccans that will cut you into pieces for saying stupid stuff like that.........remeber its not the religion, its the stupid fluffy bunnies that are ruining paganism....

  • @elguerreromuisca they'd have a hell of a hard time trying. and I didn't say anyone was ruining paganism. My issue is with those twits calling themselves wiccans who feel the urge to try to claim a title that isn't theirs and then try to insult me for correcting them and then turn around and try to denounce my own lineage despite documented proof. THOSE are my problem. and this twit is simply helping to further it with his stupidity. Now you have a nice day. Bye bye

  • @EikC uhh no, to me and thousands of others it's not bullshit. Your just better off not commenting at all about the subject.

  • @WickerWiccan

Fair enough. I'll rephrase - Wiccans' beliefs are delusional, and we can demonstrate that the potions, spells, invocations, whatever, do not work. As far as the theology itself goes, it's just more religious nonsense. In that sense, it's no different from Christianity.

...but at the same time, it's not Christianity, and that's why teenagers are drawn into this particular religion; rebellion. And sadly, that's not just a stereotype of this religion.

  • @EikC ok, what did I just tell you? I said don't comment....but what you said is fair enough. You see the nice thing about Wiccans is we really don't give a damn what people believe in or for that matter what they think of Wicca. That's cause we're nothing but a vast sea of teenagers...that's why we don't care. Didn't you know adults are not allowed in our silly little religion? And also we dance naked around bonfires smothered in peanutbutter aaaand we talk to little pixies..yaaaaaah!

  • @WickerWiccan

I see you've been to one of my Sabbats.....*hehe*

Do you prefer crunchy or smooth peanut butter in your communion with the Lord and Lady? I find the crunchy goes well with the ritual jam.

On a more serious note...have you noticed that teenagers who say "I don't care" actually do. It's the ones that don't talk about it that really don't care! :)

  • @EikC I have to agree with you to some extent. I don't follow any religion, but I've always been interested with wicca. Personally, I don't beleive in any of this stuff but I think wicca is more positive than christianity, as the messages are not as confused and muddled as those in the bible, and I think its guidlines are good rules to live ones life by: respect for nature and other beings etc. Still, I personally most of it is the same kind of nonesense we've been seeing for thousands of years.

  • @MrEzuma

That's where it gets a bit devious, because religions all have some of this stuff. Christianity in particular has a nice gig going for it where it claims that Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek. Be that as it may, Jesus also commanded his enemies slaughtered. But they focus on the good stuff. What a lot of people forget is that there are superior alternatives like humanism. But humanism isn't a religion, so it doesn't have millions of dollars and people to spread itself likewise.

  • @EikC Can't say I disagree with any of that. Glad to see there are some inteligent people in the world.

  • @EikC You have to see it from this perspective: as a kid you played with He-Man toys, right? Right! Imagine never having grown out of it ...

But there's certainly an advantage: wicca girls are extremely "easy", although most of them play poker with five cards ... ;)

It's ever so cute when they try to put a hex or the evil eye on you ... like something they pull out from a Harry Potter novel.

  • @EikC

I'd have to dissagree with the "That's why teenagers are drawn to [Wicca]" statement. That's why MANY are. As a teenager, I was never informed that Witchcraft was in any way evil or rebellious...I'd never heard of it!

I wasn't a Christian ether, I was raised in a non-religious house, and a liberal school. My reasons for my new found Paganism were much more peaceful than that when I was 14! As for spells, no, they don't "work", they bring focus to the mind. Ever heard of Tea Ceremony?

  • @WickerWiccan no, EikC is correct.

  • He is amazing! Blessed Be Raymond! )O(

  • I Love him sooo much ; )

    Blessed Be Raymond

  • I wish you had asked him about The Magick of Chant-O-Matics book. There's no explanation for it anywhere, really. Why does it work? What is going on? I came to believe it was like the chaos magick principle at work for a time, but have since lost interest in chaos magick theory since it doesn't really make sense to me. Many people have used Chant-O-Matics with GREAT success who weren't even trying and didn't even believe. For me, I got a phone call about a job DURING my first chat (for a job!).

  • raymond buckland. how could anyone be involved in wicca or witchcraft and not have a special place in their heart for ray buckland.. may he live till hes 200 years old!

  • hello everyone my name is CANDLEMAGICK i like witchcraft and vampires

  • @AtheistFromHell4

Greetings alexei. Witchcraft if like our form of prayer, to simplify the explanation a lot. Just as with more "traditional" prayers, it doesn't work if you don't believe in the person you're asking for assistance.

I'll agree that the Anne Rice version of vampires doesn't exist, but there are a culture of people who refer to themselves as vampires. I assure you, they do exist. They do not, however, fly, turn into bats, or grow big fangs, and they most certainly have a pulse.

  • Me and my typos, lol. That should be "is like our form of prayer" rather than "if like our form of prayer.

  • Ah, yes. I'm sure that no person, having suffered great pain, loss or trials, has been comforted by prayer. No person has ever felt that someone was listening to them and found solace.

It would be far more accurate to say that you have never felt comfort or solace. Or perhaps that you have, but felt betrayed at a crucial point. By your language, indicative of anger or animosity, I would hazard a guess that you probably fall into the latter category. Please keep your anger and doubt to yourself.

  • We do not come to your channel and spread animosity and discontent. Please offer us the same courtesy.

If you believe it to be false, that is your decision and your right. Just as it is our right to believe, regardless of how contemptuous you might be.

  • I love you, Raymond.

  • Hi grandfather...

  • he is such an amazing man! attended a workshop of his two years ago...amazing!

  • Awesome! you can talk christians can't talk or think!

  • Buckland...a great legend.

  • This man is my hero. He helped me(through his books) to find my way in life and I've never, ever looked back!

  • what a funny accent!

    He's the best, after Cunningham...

  • what a truely lovely man.

  • Grandma was not a Witch, my Aunt and dad were though! :)

I suppose in some ways I am a fundie Wiccan because I believe certain things that I wont budge on and get upset when I meet other Wiccans who dont believe as I do-lol, but the difference is you will rarely hear me tell them so...

shrugs, off to blog about my frustrations :)

  • I love his books are great I just ordered Spirit Communications I think it's very important to get knowledge from older people because no matter what you will still learn something from it.

I am also the only wiccan in my family and I have to say it's a bit hard .

  • All I can say is I am sorry for offending anyone, it was not my intention

  • And as far as dress goes: I think it's the height of flakiness to feel the need to dress in medieval costume when doing pagan things. Is one's religion dependent upon one's clothing? I should hope not! I think the medieval costumes make all Wiccans and all pagans look like children playing at dressing up for halloween!

Give me 21st century clothing all the way, thanks.

  • To me, its an honour to get to see the actual raymond buckland, but to be honest he looks more like a martini type sophisticated james bond, then a wiccan.

  • I'm curious...what is a Wiccan/Witch supposed to look/dress like?

  • lol

We can wear whatever we want to! As long as it doesnt violate a government law of some sort! =)

  • Winterwind: pls see my response to Blackmage

  • Sure thing! Just send me the link!

  • However we feel appropriate. There's absolutely no guidelines or restrictions on something like that.

  • @Blackmage: friend, my rhetorical question was really directed to pilsforboys, who suggested that the way Ray is dressed here, and the way his hair and beard look, is not a "Wiccan look". I knew that there's no guides/restrictions on styles of dress. Me, I actually prefer to stay FAR AWAY from medieval gear unless I'm doing re-enactments, which of course one certainly doesn't have to be a pagan to do. Make sense?

  • @pilsforboys lol

  • @pilsforboys There are more Martini Wiccans than there are Floaty Dress Wiccans, I'd wager...they are stealthy and subtle and just get on with things.

I am of the floaty dress variety, but that's not to say I don't go undercover in the office!

  • @loquatiousbadger People are surprised by my appearance as they expect me to dress in black, "flow-y" clothing and wear thick eye-liner. When they see a girl dressed in blue jeans and *gasp* white tank tops (in the Summer, respectably) and little make-up, they are taken aback when they see my Pentacle - which I wear proudly! I just got a compliment on my Pentacle last night while I was at a Wal-greens of all places! lol

Wear your floaty dresses proudly! Blessed be! )O(

  • @NocturnalAngel77

Life's too short not to own gothy stuff as well *hehe*. I'm a part-time goth...part-hippy part Fashionista! (I still buy Grazia!). Schizophrenic..no. Well dressed....that's subjectice but I think I look fab, and that's what counts!

  • @loquatiousbadger Oh, I own some gothy stuff! I just don't wear it all a daily basis. lol

You're right, looking awesome (especially if *you* think you look great) is what truly counts! :D

  • I really would like to hear what he thinks about Aleister Crowley's influence on Gardener, and his possible involvement in the creation of wicca.

  • @ozzzz156 Oh me too!

  • wow, under 16,000 veiws... Buckland is the godfather of wicca in the usa, people should know where the foundations of organized wicca came about, gardner, etc. Too many fluffy bunnies out there shadowing the real "wisemen/women" out there. Damn charmed & harry slaughter they blind side the ignorant, oblivious & bring a supernatural 'otherworldly' veiw to good homely magic. Like Ray says "witchcraft is getting diluted to the point where it doesn't really MEAN anything." Sad, yet shamefully true.

  • ARCDBEACH,

    Very insightfull and true responce.

    Thank you.

  • I want to go there. I'm near Cleveland, why haven't I been there?

  • oh believe me I am. As I type this my manhood is resting on my seet.

  • wow, he is getting old!!!the first time I saw him his beard was shorter, and his hair was still brown, with a couple of gray hairs....

  • there is nothing wrong of obtaining money from magick teaching, its a vocation in life, if priests and preachers do it, why shouldnt sorcerers, withces and magicians do it?????

  • @elguerreromuisca Exactly!

  • Wicca is not a path easily "cashed in" on. I can tell you that after my expirence for over a decade the pay and hours suck!

You want cashing in ? Look at the Osteens and Warrens, respectfully.

  • Osteens & Warrens? I take it they are christian ministers? Yes now that def is "cashin in!"

  • There are thieves in every religion. I admit, especially in my beloved Catholic Church, there are many thieves. But thieves do not degrade saints.

  • Putting out info is not necessarily "cashing in..." As for Buckland being misguided, I'd say that he does not seem to misguided to me, since that would be to say that there is only one path. They did more research on their books then other books I have read.

  • Relax...it wasn't a serious statement. If that's something you believe in & follow that is your choice.

  • ahhh ... lol

  • Why not? Since he basically MADE the Wiccan market.

  • RE: demarcor's statement: "Ahh "Dr" Raymond Buckland....cashing in on the Wiccan market by selling books and who knows what else!"

Ah, nice to see that someone is carrying on the old Christian perspective on simony! That has no place in the Craft. The Craft is not Christian. It has nothing to do with Christianity. Witches are Witches, period.

  • skyclad is a natural part of life its natural part of being part of the earth. dont be so closed mineded

  • well then...whip off those clothes and start walking around naked...it is "natural" afterall.

  • Twelve years old detected.

  • I agree, way to many "pop" witches now. I met so many since I began practicing and read so many books it's insane. It would make make someone find another path to not be associated with such. We need more passion like Bucklands.

  • Who knows genuine information about whether our notorious friend Crowley conspired with Gardner to create a religion (an often lucrative venture) and that the lack of female presence in the renaissance is disturbing? I think Buckland is a man to venerate the femine principle and laud him for it, but this story, which appeared in the BOOK OF LIES says Wicca is the OTO. I make no accusations I am just interested to see if any of you are perspicacious. Blessed be.

  • Some say Gardenr was a drity old man, going skyclad, the great rite ect ect. LOL

I agree Alex Sanders, most people look better with thier cloths on. lol

  • Buckland, através do seu trabalho,é que realmente, encontrei-me dentro da Religião, há alguns anos atras.

  • Raymond Buckland is a really nice guy, a very genuine individual who is very responsive to inquiries despite what must be a hectic schedule.

  • I would like to see Samhain to be a recognized holiday. Even though my job allows me to have that holiday off, some aren't so lucky.

  • Oh, people, please listen to Uncle Bucky and find a way to stop watering Witchcraft down to the point where it's become meaningless, as he describes here. Use the word "Witch." Stop calling it "Wicca" because in modern English "Witch" is the proper word to use.

  • I became involded with Wicca in 73 and things have changed sense then, alot of pop witchs now.lol

And it hurt none, do as yea will .

    Blessed be

  • Very nice!

  • Inspiration to the wiccan way. thanx ray buckland!

  • Good ole Raymond, Im not a Wiccan but Ive read a few of his books. A good author and an even nicer guy, long life to Mr Buckland.

  • Please come to West Palm Beach Florida

  • Very cool to hear the man that has known the grandfather of the Wiccan movement...Gerald Gardner. We have so much to be thankful for from Buckland, Fox, Gardner and so many others. THANK YOU for your courage and persistence!! You all have given me guidance through these years and I am blessed for it. Good journey to you all!!! Kristofer

  • PLEASE come to Tampa, Florida~!!!!!! or Orlando, Florida~!!!!!!!!

  • urkingod: I emailed Ray and asked him a question about something - it was kind of an involved question - and I told him if he ever came back to FL to contact me and I'd gladly buy him a drink. Gave him my cell number too.

He wrote back and told me I had some very interesting ideas, and if he ever did find himself in Florida, he'd contact me and take me up on that drink offer! :D

I'll do it too, if he ever contacts me.

  • Happy Birthday Ray!

  • Everyone should listen to Uncle Ray speak on this video. He says many truthful things concerning Wicca. And he's he's so warm and friendly about it all. I hope I can meet him before too much longer.

  • Raymond Buckland! what a wonderful man to talk to you...

  • I met Mr. Buckland at this event. He is such a gentleman. I attended two of his workshops that weekend, and they were wonderful. He signed a book I purchased there, and I will forever treasure it!

  • i finally get to hear what buckland sounds like after reading his books

  • Ahhh a treasure trove of knowledge!

  • I love his mention of Selena Fox and her push for pentacles on gravesites. I'm going to be moving to Madison. You better bet one of the first places I will visit once there is Circle Sanctuary.

  • I wrote him one time about signing my "big blue" and he instead sent me a nice big sticker that he personalized and signed so I could stick it inside the front of the book. What a great guy and inspiration. Hail Freya and Woden!

  • I met him last Sept. and what a genuine guy he is. Not only highly intelligent and informative, but just a nice guy to talk with. I had a reading with him and I must say as a skeptic he has been pretty accurate so far.

  • Oh, one more thing, where can I find out where he may be coming to next? I would so very much like to attend and meet the legend himself in person. :)

  • I'm betting he's gonna be at Pagan Spirit Gathering.

  • Thank you so much for this, Raymond Buckland is an exceptional man. He is both a role model and mentor to me. I have learned all that I know of the Craft through his books, in fact it was his books which convinced me to renounce my old beliefs and convert to Wicca. Mr. Buckland, you shall forever have my gratitude, you're a splendid individual, thank you for all that you have done for this community. :)

    )O( Blessed be!

  • i want wicca conventions on mexico!

  • "Witchcraft is getting diluted to the point where it doesn't mean anything."

I'm so glad he said that.

  • This will make some who think they know me shit themselves, but I respect Buckland a great deal.

  • I like Ray so much better than people like Oberon Zell, etc. Ray is far more modest and not given to flamboyancy and let's face it - he's basing his information on actual historical lore. Wonderful. Oberon to me is just a flake in a pointy hat.

  • this is great! these are the types of interviews i search for. thanks

  • Thanks for all the information you've provided through the years for new and old Wiccans both in age and in their stage of learning!

    Blessed Be

  • Ray has the guts not to swallow the entire re writing of Wiccan, as well as pagan history ala Ron Hutton. What floors me most is not just the bashing Wicca gets from Fundies, but from within the Pagan community at large. At least on message boards. I'd like to hear more of what he thinks of that.

  • You are absolutely right on that.

  • malkoik: sometimes the truth is the truth, and quite often Wiccans have shown themselves to be terrible scholars and historians. It's like they act as if history is completely divorced from who we are today and why we do things the way we do today. I myself have even been asked "are you a pagan or a historian" as if the two were mutually exclusive. This is nonsense. But yes, most Wiccans take their mythic history every bit as literally as a Christian takes Genesis.

  • @chalicechiq

    *HERE HERE*

Oh it's so nice to see this put so clearly! I have a degree in History, and a growing Pagan library. I often skip the "History of Witchcraft" sections in books unless it will help me understand if the authour is a scholar...or deluded!

I don't MIND the deluded ones, because their other philosophies are often quite nice, but It does help me filter my information!

  • Maybe you can pen down Ed Fitch. He is in a clip called 'Beyond Lemaria'. He has a myspace as well. Ed was one of the orig members of the NY Coven.

    BB

  • I would like to see an interview with Starhawk. I'm reading Spiral Dance at the moment.

    I gotta get Buckland's book.

  • When i made my last comment, i was gonna reccomend you go interview Scott Cunningham, but i forgot he's kinda dead. Can anything be done about him, maybe a biography or something? And is there any way you could dig up stuff on the Golden Dawn? Lots of people dont know where some roots come from.

  • Seance, maybe? Actually Cunningham believed only in reincarnation and not in ghosts or spirits, but it'd still be worth a shot.

  • He has a biography. It's called "Whispers of the Moon" and it was written by David Harrington and deTraci Regula.

  • Whispers of the Moon is the story of the Life of Scott Cunningham

  • I know that, I was answering someone's comment about Scott. ;)

  • If I met Buckland, it would be like Wayne's World with the "WE'RE NOT WORTHY!" thing. And to think, the man who first brought Wicca to the US lives to see it accepted as a religion by the pentagon. When he started, there were only a few hundred of us, and now, there are about 450,000 in the US alone! Thanks, Ray!

  • He's actually amazingly down to earth. I've met him IRL. He's such a sprite at times too! LOL Especially when he's in a kilt. ROFL!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much for putting this online. I can't wait to read his autobiography.

  • Thats the first time ive seen Mr. Buckland in a posted video on the internet. Most impressive.

  • <3 Raymond Buckland is the best. Eh, I can't think of anything better to say, but that about sums it up! ^^

  • what about starhawk?

  • I like Starhawks books but sometimes it seems like she thinks that if one doesn't have a far-left political position than one cannot be Wiccan. I am a libertarian myself, so I disagree with allot of her politics, but not her theology

  • Have not pinned her down yet for a Interview. She is on my target list, and I hope to have a chance to be in the same space and interview her next year.

  • what other books are out? i have only read spiral dance and 12 swans

  • earthlywicca: How about "The Pagan Book of Living and Dying" and "Truth or Dare" and "Dreaming the Dark" and "The Fifth Sacred Thing" etc...those are all Starhawk books that I'm surprised no one has mentioned...

  • The only problem I have with The Pagan Book of Living and Dying is that the whole idea behind the writing of that book was that pagans don't have customs for death and dying. Um, hello, yes they did! Every culture in pre-Christian times had some kind of tradition of how they dealt with death and burials, etc. It's just a matter of where you look for your information on that kind of thing. But the traditions have ALWAYS been there.

  • He's a LOT more dignified about it than most; I mean, come on - "Silver Ravenwolf"?? If you, Rhiannon, have even ONE book of "Mama Silver's" in your collection, in my eyes your comment has just totally gone out the window to me.

According to your logic, ANYONE who writes a book on ANY topic is a "show pony" who is "cashing in on people who are not well educated" in pretty much anything.

So should the entire publishing business shut down?

  • No I dont have any of those books and I follow the old ways, I am nearing the end stage of my life and my Grandmother was also a Witch, what most of my kind of learned has been passed down. All knowledge is great but you have to make sure that its correct knowledge, young people very often read these kinds of books and it influences them in ways it shouldnt.

  • Oh the "my grandmother was a Witch" story! Doesn't EVERYONE have one of those, except ME?

My grandmothers were Christians. My grandmother on Mom's side was Church of God, and my grandmother on Dad's side was Roman Catholic. Geez, I think I'm the ONLY HUMAN BEING IN THE PAGAN WORLD who does NOT claim I had a witch grandmother!

There are times when it's all I can do to not knock some sense into about 99.9999999% of the dingbats that make up the pagan and Wiccan world.

  • I feel the same way both of my grandmother are Christians, but i'm the only one in my whole family who is Wiccan.

  • tho i dont agree with your last sentence, the rest of my family are christians. now i really miss my 'complete book of witchcraft' by him

  • I'm from a buddhist line but am a pagan. : ) Don't know if that makes you feel better. XD
