..authenticity in this. And I guess that´s okay. They have the right to like this! What makes me sad though is the amount of those foreigners who think that Kathak etc. are things you can learn or even teach by watching these kind of songs!!! I know of some ppl who are non Southasian, have got absolutely NO CLUE about the history of it and have never taken a lesson in Kathak....and they´re teaching Kathak in Europe! But "white ppl" who come to them to learn think they´re Southasian and trained.
@Khwaab Hey, give us "foreigners" a little more credit. I enjoyed watching this video, but I never thought for a moment that it looked like Kathak. Believe it or not some of us know the difference between classical dance and a lot of the dances that are featured in popular films. While I'm sure there are some, I've never seen any generic "Bollywood" classes claiming to offer actual Kathak instruction in my area of the US...
I´m glad to hear that! Good for you! No, I don´t mean to offend anyone...just telling my experience from where I live. Some of them are running B´wood classes and teaching something like aerobics meets "supposed" Indian moves. And some are actually teaching what they´re calling Kathak but is anything but. And none of the attendants are Southasian, which is interesting.
Anyway, I´m a foreigner too in a way...but born far far away from Southasia :).
To be honest...I think this song, dance and picturisation must look very attractive to ppl who don´t know much about Southasian culture and specifically culture from the Mughal era. Most Southasians grew up watching old movies and a certain group is very well acquainted with classical dance and culture so to put it mildly...it´s not an easy audience to please!
My friends from outside of Southasia would love this, they wouldn´t be able to see all the faults or lack of authenticity...
please change the captio of this video....this dance is not even related to Kathak.......by the way I will say it is not even a dance,,,,,,such a hopeless thing.......Sushmita doesnot know how to dance and choreography is too bad.......
@vineetgaur1982 Ur such a hater...This was a beautiful expression of dance and song regardless if you agree... and I know for a fact such a miserable individual such as yourself could not come up with something even worthy to be on youtube So shut your stupid mouth
@TheGraySwan : I never knew that expressing yourself is considered being "miserable" if it doesnt fit in someone's definition.......try to take criticism in a more positive manner.....just a suggestion
You´re right: everyone have the right to express their opinions. How we do it, is up to us. I find it really annoying here on YT that some ppl can´t tolerate indifferences and attack you just because you said how you perceive something. It´s like when somebody says that he/she doesn´t find a certain actress beautiful...all of a sudden, you get accused of being jealous. They never think that, that person might just not be your taste. Silly and sad.
I really love Sushmita Sen, think she seems like a great, relaxed person but this performance is a catastrophe! It´s definitely NOT Kathak (that´d be an insult to the beautiful art that is Kathak!).
She´s done a great job in some songs like Fiza and Sirf Tum but this was just stiff and strangely choreographed. I think it´s a prime example of how it can go horribly wrong even if they have great costumes, great background and lots of money to spend on camera...
..camera and all. The song too, is very calm and just out of place. Only B´wood can think that it´s ok to mix Qawwali with a Ghazal and Thumri !!
Seriously, if ppl know about Kathak, Mughal period and old movies like Anarkali...then this seems like a horrible horrible attempt at copying some of that in the most terrible way. They do it so unprofessionally nowadays. It´s a disgrace to old movies. I wonder who the choreographer is? This is painful to watch!
Not kathak, but certainly a mujra, no? Is that Sushmita Sen? The women's costumes are nice, not sure about the men's. What's with the eye patch? (Reminds me a bit much of Sanjay Dutt in Khal Nayak. If only Madhuri Dixit were dancing here...)
That looks like Rachel Wood from the Notebook. You'd think I'd be happy to recognize my an actress from my homeland, but not in this video!

THIS DANCE IS HORRIBLE
bollywood22 1 week ago
Wow, at 7:00 minutes in it seems to be COMPLETELY mocking Indian culture. This is not a good video.
Jaseeka1986 1 week ago
She doesn't have the charisma Madhuri, Aishwarya or the girl that danced in Radha Kaise Na Jale. And why does she look angry?
XbeyourselfisbestX 1 week ago
@XbeyourselfisbestX Completely Agree! Is it Gracye Singh who is the Indian girl in Radha Kaise Na Jale- one of my all-time favs!
