If anything, the message that the prequel trilogies put out was that the empire made things better. I mean, who would have thought that a movie called "STAR WARS: Attack of the Clones" would have 30 minutes of film dedicated to people sitting on couches talking to eachother?

This scene was a transparent criticism of the war in Iraq...Lucas got cold feet and removed it. Just like he got cold feet when he removed the scene with Biggs talking about the Empire's nationalization of commerce in "A New Hope" because back in the 70's that had become a concern during the recession as it once again has become a concern with the massive bailouts.
