  • this was very inspiring! thank you so much for the message and the tip of mapping out my own road. i have been thinking about drawing out a map like that but haven't made the time to do so and you just made it so much more important to me. thanks! :)

  • wait what?? high school exchange but suggest to go to university??? how old were Ciaela?

  • Where do you read all those things 0.o

This kinds of speech are awesoem!

  • If I had that sense when I was younger - great job! Even this old dog can learn and that's what's great about right now. Thank you! Am enjoying the right now and living the right now. :)

  • I am about to go to Japan for school!!! Thank you so much, your video gave me the final push. I am very very nervous and would love to talk to you about some stuff.. I don't want to seem like a crazy foreign girl.

  • Thats soooo right!

My family is against me going to japan. Thigs like that it will not give me anything good, only waste of money and waste of time in my life.. That i sould get a real life and start working ans such..

The same thing on that i want to maybe go to a music school.

But its my life! And in oktober, im going to japan! Osaka, at a language school there!

Its my dream since i was 17 (22 now).

Soo fuu there beleives, Im going!! :D

  • Real talk Micaela! I'm 23 and I just got my Japanese PASSPORT in NYC so I'll be over soon! So stoked to finally have dual citizenship and finally making moves!!! You're totally right about having to do it yourself and learning to take a few punches! Hopefully I'll either be in Nagano or Niseko this winter to snowboard/teach English/and have the most baller time everrr! HOLLATCHABOY!!!

  • I'm a 23 year old guy from Norway... And I could only wish I could do what you are doing Micaela. I'm actually a canadian citizen too... which is kinda ironic right :P I'm studying Japanese right now, don't really know why i'm doing it because my life situation really won't bring me to Japan anyway so...sigh... this video made me shed a tear... sigh... I'm such a sorry slob.

  • Very nice little speech

  • i'm 28 now, my life is over. never gonna make it now. le sigh.

  • wow randomly came across this video, I was having a bit of a gloomy day now i feel better my Japanese friend kinda got confused and fussed at me, so i think she hates me for reason or misunderstood english...which makes me want to motivate myself to really get better at Japanese and stop procrastinating and as you said thinking someone is going to help me when they don't really care about Japan like some of us do. And my friend went Japan college abroad 7 years ago so i cant regret move forward.

  • Good video

  • Thought this was going to be a gurly video.lol. But actually listened through it and has some truth. Nice thoughts.

  • i made it too japan .... 9 years I like your shit peace !!!

  • I did a little timeline..My dream is to be an English teacher.

I'm 14 right now, and currently begging my mum to buy me Japanese lessons.

She won't buy me them until I finish secondary school so I'm using the internet for now.

When I get to college I'll get a waiter job and pay for Japanese lessons, while also saving up to go to NILS for a year (Just like Micaela!)

When I come back from Japan, I'll go to uni and get my qualifications, then I'm going to finally follow up my dream! I can do it! :D

  • Crap =.= NOooo i want to be like peter pan and be a kid foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr don't bring me back to reality!. Sigh guess i have to do couple of things tomorrow, and start finding a job. Saving for school suck =.=

  • Even tho I have only just recently found your videos, I think you are so amazing I wish I had found you sooner! you are stunning and so inspirational. I DO want to go to Japan and I WILL go somehow, hopefully ill make my first visit to Japan next year I need a game plan lol. but honestly this video has just given me more hope that I can do it, even if I'm planning it all myself if you do it then so can I. Thank you I still have a way to go, tho I dnt know my path yet I will follow my ambitions

  • Thank you for this video, it's really inspiring!

  • Very inspirational. . . .Also, amazing job singing on the edge or whatever. You have an outstanding voice.

  • @fishnanners2 wong video

  • @ciaela thank you!^-^ i want to go to japan...and i dont know how im going to do it, but i am going to do it no matter what :) i started studying japanese...but i gave up haha jk..i think ive got the basics down but its so hard to keep learning after that, the more complicated stuff anyways..so i was wondering if you, or anybody, could help me continue learning the harder stuff? please and very many thank you's!:3

  • Is future me exploding?

  • I know you've probably already gotten a lot of "thank you"'s for this video, but really, from me to you: "thank you".

This video got me really thinking and now I'm definitely going to follow up with what I want in life instead of what others want me to do...thanks.

  • Thank you. Your Speech really helped me.

  • Hei there :D

thanks for your video again, it realy help, because I made the choice to go to Japan this year and I buyed a ticket yet... but I am so afraid of it >_< to hear these sentences make me feel better now...thanks a lot :D

of course I will make mistkaes and propably the people how always said to me, that it will be difficult there are right, but it's my own choice and I will regret it later, I am sure :D

  • "If you want anything done right, you have to do it yourself"

I went with that phrase when I cut my hair.

    Maybe there are exceptions..? xD

  • I've been saving to go to Japan for a while now, but I know I want to do more lessons here first. But I live in England and Japanese lessons are SO hard to come by! I think getting to Japan itself would be far easier than having lessons here! But I want to have decent basics first and I have spent a small fortune on my text books in the past year but really nothing beats actualy SPEAKING to people! If anyone is English and is reading this - help a girl out! Tell me where you learn! x

  • 'Better late than nerver.'

You're so intelligent and powerful person, Ciaela!

  • Words of wisdom, I favorited this video as a future reference.

I didn't understand the "(How to Get To Japan-esque)" part of the title very much though.

  • I dont know much Japanese (There are not any courses here either so I'm trying my best to teach myself >.<) But i really want to go to Japan as soon as I can. Will my lack of Japanese cause a major problem for my trip? Like are there places where people would speak english knowing there will be foreigners like myself '.'

  • @XxKurochiixX

I went to Japan when I was 15 with my parents and sibling, we stayed in Tokyo. Although I was learning Japanese GCSE at the time, I knew a few things that would HELP but aren't entirely necessary. My parents didn't know anything a part from "konnichiwa". So no, you don't need Japanese to get about, some people will know English, but don't expect them to. But it is enouraged to pick up a phrase book. You don't need to know it fluently to get by on a trip.

  • @xUKSteffix Thankyou for the advice ^.^ I was always kinda worried I'd have to learn the entire language (Which in my case could take a rather long time as im self teaching) to go. I'd guess Tokyo would be a good place to start as it probably draws in a lot of foreign people so they see us coming and know that not all of us might know the language ;) Of course I'll do my bit and try to learn as much as I can ^.^

  • @XxKurochiixX

    You're welcome.

The majority of signs and menu's will have Romanji/Romaji (roman letters) written underneath the Japanese, so you'd have no problem ordering and buying things. But it might help to know how to say Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening, Where can I find..., Could you tell me where..., etc as they would require you to say that in Japanese. We got helped by a Japanese businessman who spoke perfect English, so there are people who know it, basic or fluent. All helps.

  • @xUKSteffix Ah i know the morning/afternoon/evening ones, i just need to learn a few basic everyday sentences that will most likely pop up ?

I feel so much better I know this now ^^ thanks again

  • Great video ciaela.

  • omg ur actually briliant u should hav a t program of sumthin thx sooo much for the advise i think tht i might actually be able to do tht thing ive always wanted to do now your briliant and tht tip about wrighting it down really does work your a star :)

  • You can only move forward if you accept the situation, you're in. If you accept the situation you're in and don't move forward, you are stuck in complacency. If you cannot accept the situation you're in, you are on the road to denial and rejection of your own life and self.

  • I felt that these words you said were so incredibly powerful. I am now a little bit more inspired and confident to face my own struggles in life, and to pursue what I believe makes me happy. I thank you sincerely.

  • 2012 is when the world will end... Why the fuck is a blondie talking japanese? Social inferiority complex?

  • @odaymustdie

    Superstitious much?

  • My school is dumb and doesn't offer exchange programs

  • hi there ^_^ i just have a question im out of HS so the foreign exchange student is possible so i was just wondering if it would be is expensive to move out there?? like is it expensive to live over there??

  • I'm going to Fukuoka this year! XD But only for a month! If I like it I'll go back for two years study at NILS! ^^ You inspired me!

  • Well said. You are wise beyond your years. I admire your courage to go where your dreams lead you. Tell Ryuhei he reminds me of Makota Nagano Ha Ha.

  • 0:01... it sounds a kinda weird and out of place...But the first 2 seconds are clearly a "fan-service" ;D...Just joking. I like the way you find your way and try to don't give up. I think that is the reason why so many people follow you through the difficult and get inspired by you. Bon "Voyage" Ciela!

  • well im sure ive learned some japanese with kentucki fried chicken kents japanese lessons and a shit ton of anime ...wooot!!! here i come japan , and em chicks better be squeaking like a pig about to get slaughtered when i fuck em just like in the porns or ill want my money back xD

  • Thank you. This really hit home for me. I really needed to hear this rite now in my life. Thank you again and Happy belated Birthday

  • i know this has nothing to do with this video but does anybody know any exchange programs for non students. I live in Olive Branch,MS and my school doesnt provide exchange programs for the students. They accept exchange students but they dont have an exchange program for the student who are from the area. Also my father doesnt like that idea of me join an exchange program. Im a senior in high school and I really want to go to japan. P.S. I speak very very very little japanese.

  • i love you too =) epic video and i have nothing to say just want to say please take care yourself :) i am very happy to know you =)

  • i want to go into an exchange program in Japan but i know that if i ask my parents they'll say no. I know it will help me a lot! with learning the language and figuring out if i really want to move to Japan in the future. I just don't know if i can..

  • I HAVE A QUESTION!!!

My Japanese language education is nearly complete so I want to go to art school there. What's the best way to study for entrance exams?

  • Most viewed is from Male aged 45-54 ?.. huh what

  • Thanks so much for this video, it's quite encouraging :) Actually, I'm planning on going to study in Japan next winter, but just like you, my Japanese teacher is encouraging me to go to university instead of high school. I really want to go to high school there, but exchange programms don't take students over 18 years old, and I'll be 19 by then. Do you know what I could do? As for you, good luck with the new year, best wishes :)

  • . i know for me and a lot of other people that would love to make the move to Japan is usually money issues. but have never let my dream of going there die,i know i will make it there someday and hopefully for good, just getting older and older, but even if you are dont let that stop you from pursuing your dreams people.

  • You are Canadian? Didn't know. New subscriber you may have mentioned it early on. Just curious where were you from originally?

  • This is the most inspirational video I have ever seen on following your dreams! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! xD

  • nice words!! ciaela!

  • I've almost decided on going to Japan next year. I graduate in June, and I'm going to find a job to earn money, and then I'll go to a language school in Japan for at least a year. Hopefully. I'm really scared, I keep thinking "people might not like me", "what if it's too difficult?", "what if I get homesick?"

I think the biggest issue is money. Once I have that sorted, I'll have to work on becoming a more outgoing person. And then... just go to Japan. Thank you for the inspiration, Micaela.

  • Lovely message Ciaela, I really appreciate it even though it's not specialy for me, it made me think about what I want and how I want to make it happen. <3

  • Ciaela, I liked the words of encouragement you give to others. I have enjoyed several of your videos, and I hope you continue to make more. I wonder, have you spoken yet about the various programs available to those looking for a way to Japan? I am pursuing the JET Program at the moment, and I came across dozens of other ways too.

  • i just noticed. she have Mugi eyebrows

  • Thank you very much ... Your words really moved me ^^

  • Life is travelling! :D

  • Nice comment Ciaela san

  • I wish i had a friend like you around where I live :(

  • 英語ってかっこいー

  • Thank you so much for this video. ^__^ I'm graduating from high school this year, and have been stressing out over what I should do with my life. I love learning languages and teaching others, but wasn't sure if I should pursue my passion. You've given me the courage I need to work hard for what I want. So thanks! I hope you figure out your own New Years resolutions as well.

  • hello! i think it is faith that youtube suggested your video to me. i'm 28 living in montreal, have learned japanese for 3 years, had to quit because of work. still planning to get back to school for that when my schedule become more normal. i've been dreaming abut japan for years and years. now i finally have the money. so i'm planning my first trip to japan for next november. i subscribed to your channel, you totally spoke to me and your japanese is impressing. one day i'll be as good!

  • I worded a lot of it wrong not enough space but yeah... :) anything is possible is this life you just gotta put a lil effort into it and have a lil bit of hope and most important believe in yourself even if others dont... follow your goals and dreams and if you fall of the bandwagon lol well it might happen but get right back on! Reach for the top and even higher! I could say more but I think thats enough find it inside yourself and thats all believe in yourself and keep on dreaming!

  • Dont just do it b.c its new years do it b.c u really want to thats the only way you will accomplish whatever your goal might be... Dont say oh ill start monday or next week or something start now life is to short to not chase your dreams life is painful and sad but also fun and happy you make your life and your dreams or goals arent far your just making excuses do something and you will get something out of it. But at the end of they day only you can decide what u will do... be ur own motivation

  • No matter what your goals or dreams might be the only person who can make it happen is yourself. It may not be easy or seem easy but if you want it bad enough you wont make excuses and just do it by that i mean take the chance and go for it! with nothing comes nothing you must need to make and effort to get something... Its simple but no matter what remember you have yourself believe in yourself even if no one does only you can control your own life no one else can. Now what will u do?

  • what ciaela is saying is true.. but you have to also consider reality. Sure, going to japan and learning/experiencing is great.. but also consider what you are going to gain with your experience.. meaning.. if you love doing what you want to do.. but you don't make enough income and barely getting by with expenses.. will you be happy? The big decision is living your dream or doing something that will benefit you the most depending on your financial background.

  • I fear i will never know what i want to do in life, at the moment i am wasting each day..i think.

  • Thank you.. really... thankyou I really needed this..

  • i never heard anything so beautiful in my life. Thank You.

  • Not too sure what she is trying to say, but got the pint that I can decide my future if not past.

  • I WANNA B JOHN WAYNE GACY!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!

  • You are awsome and I have the dream to go ... Sooo badly! I say that I've come to far to stop. I'm only 13 and I'm very basic in japanese but that gives me enough time to study! ^_^ thank you a thousand time over you really helped with me motivation to do it.

  • I've only been subscribed to you for... Oh well what do you know it's only been today. Lol

  • If only I were brave enough. :(

  • the only thing better than being replied to by Ciaela is―to get the notification earlier...

  • Thank you so much for your videos. you are so kind and I think this is cause japan. I know it from myself :) I was very shy the whole time in my childhood, than I get to know Japan by my best friend. I learn now japanese, I have a best friend there and I read a lot of books and finaly I changed a little bit my life. I proud of it that I am a little bit reservated, I realized that my life could be most beautiful with this land. It is hard to discribe. あけまして お めでとう ございます。 ^-^

  • what if i don't know what i want...

    I WANNA BE A DINOSAUR

  • I wanted to see what the present was.

  • Thank you for this fantastic video. I have almost all my paperwork together to send out my NILS application, and I feel really strongly about your message because I've taken some other roads in my life and reached my 20s before finally finding this chance to do what I've always wanted. One way or another, I'll make it happen.

  • Really great message in this video, whether your goal is coming to Japan, or something entirely different. Kudos.

  • @ArishaInTokyo Now that's a nice comment! :)

  • i trusted my intuition and HELL YEAH I MADE MY DREAM COME TRUE!!!

  • No, I don't wanna go to Japan. I wanna go to Switzerland =P. Now to go off and learn Germany and Italian. Those damn Frenchies aren't worth my time xD

  • あなたの言葉に感銘を受けました。私も2012年は目標を達成できるように頑張りたいと思います。thank you!

  • New subscriber :) thanks Ciaela. I was one of those people with the "I wanted to do an exchange in High School now I'm an adult so I can't blah..." syndrome. Lol. Now I'm a happy cookie with a timeline plan! You are a great motivational speaker^^

  • i have a major exam coming this year thanks so much for the motivation! cheers Micaela!

  • Your words and smile have given me a new light to believe in. I too wish to go to Japan, but I still love my home state of California and the people that has made my life so great. It will take some time of course like all things do, but it will be worth it when I am finished with college to work my way there. I hope you had a wonderful birthday and wish the best this year.

  • Yes. I agree. in my case, it is the exact opposite from what you did. I wanted to learn English. I've learned enough of reading and writing but not speaking. I came to North America. jumped right into the university and now working in a local firm. I would't be here if I listened to the others and felt like nothing I could do. writing down the goals and how to get there will make us easier to visualize what we need to accomplish in terms of the objectives that could bing us get there. cheers

  • thank you so much for that, it was really inspiring =] even if we have very different goals.

  • Very strong and true words that give a fuzzy feeling of happiness. Thank you

  • :)

  • Well I took Japanese but I quit for a while even though I want my dreams to come true but I don't want to look like a fool in front of everyone else, what I really want in my life is to everyone knows me from the inside and I am praying for this for a long time, that if I go to Japan I will like to experience and share those wonderful moments for myself as I did when I went to Canada it was awsome, and I hope you have ideas of going to Colombia something I want to share with folks their !

  • thanks <3

  • You are awesome!!! Im gonna do that :)

  • you are inspiring :)

  • Learning is definitely a good first step. There are plenty of blogs out there regarding foreigners living in Japan. Having a rosey picture is nice but having a realistic one will give you the confidence needed! Visiting there will always be a special memory to me :-)

  • @Ciaela I really love how you see Japan and Japanese culture. I feel exactly the same. I have been looking for doing my Bachelor final project in Japan but sadly even with the thousand inquiries I sent none went good enough for my school so I can't do it. But I'll definitively will find a job there in ~4months (I am already looking for it)

You have a very strong personality and I respect your strength to go forward.

I am not often on YouTube, but more on Google+ ( Yvan Da Silva )

  • That was really helpful! Thanks Micaela :)

  • This has opened my eyes. Thank you. This is why you're one of my favourite Youtubers.

  • you look tired or sad. Cheer up! i like to watch your clips for your smile and laughing. =)

had you watched the movie "Forrest Gump" ? at the beginning and the end of the movie, a feather is flying around. somehow, i believe, as long as we are faithful to ourselves, no matter where we are, who we are, what we are doing, we are having a wonderful life.

  • よろしくお願い致します。

  • @Ciaela san,

My apology for pessimistic 2 cents. It makes me wonder why you had decided to come to Japan rather than Europe. I get sick in the stomach when I see/hear hypocrisy. Many Japanese have/will treat you like a guest, but I assume you're smart enough to know it. BTW, I've once driven across Canada and the land was a sheer beauty.

I wish you live in Japan long enough to truly understand it as well as its citizens. Happy BD and thanks for siding with Japan. I'll keep quiet now.
