Well, the doors are on the side of the car, so yeah, it had them on the sides. According to wikipedia, the "Sport" edition is purely cosmetic. I don't know how many horses mine is putting out. Its a bone stock '98 V6. Its a fast as I need for a daily driver.

@The1FastGP You can't base your HP on any cars you beat. I've taken 255hp Chrysler 300ms and Chargers and I have 220hp. Its a hp/weight ratio type thing. You'll get better figures of how much hp you are actually putting down on either a dyno, or doing a bunch of math after a quarter mile run. (a real quarter mile, not some computer alleged quarter mile)

@phuckmerunnin06 Actually, the Avengers were a mitsubishi built car and thus had the 2.0 with the flip-flopped head (intake in the rear and exhaust up front) because of the flip-flopped mitsu way of doin things the 2.0's that went in the Avengers and Eclipses were rated at 140HP which is 10HP less than the 2.0 in the Neon's. So... not only do they weigh more stock but they also have 10 less HP.
@if4406 Actually, not all Neon 2.0s have 150, just the DOHC Neons, which are notorious for snapping the timing belts and taking the heads with them. Most Neons were actually SOHC. And even those have the intake BOX located at the rear of the engine compartment (my brother has rigged up a custom intake for his that goes right from the intake port (in the front on these) and down right behind the bumper, poking out just a bit. Adds a bunch of power over the rear-mounted intake)
@mj20042 i already know this. i was comparing the DOHC engines shared between the Neon's and the Eclipse/Avengers. As far as the timing belt being a common problem that's your own personal opinion which everyone is perfectly entitled to. And yeah the airbox idea is dumb. rerouted mine down and behind the rear bumber as well. good ol 3.0 intake tube :)

As far as the timing belt thing. I've heard that it's a common complaint on the Org (Neons.org) that the DOHCs will snap the timing belts for some reason. The SOHCs do it too, but not as often as I understand, and that when that happens, the head usually gets warped or something like that.
@mj20042 sounds the same xcept instead of a motorcycle filter i used the 45 degree elbow and cone filter off the WAI that came on the car when i bought it. Cut the corner off the airbox with a hack saw and presto! as far as the damage done when timing belt breaks its valves coming in contact with the pistons and bending valves. had it happen once. bent almost every valve in the head. took advantage of the opportunity i had when it was off and ported it and threw in a cam too!
I own a 95 neon myself, but if mine looked like that one did i'd lose on purpose just so the camera doesnt catch how riced up that neon really is. I'd be embarassed.
These people here in Rockford seem to think all you have to do is put an intake and cat-back system on any random compact car, and you can beat anything on the road...

well i'm sorry i hurt your feelings. don't knock it till u tried it. and yes it is. i raced a 15sec flat taurus sho (yes i even saw the slip) and all the way to 110 all he could do was put his rear bumper by my front bumper. so i'm guessing 15.1 or 15.15 would probably be a good estimate for what my car could have done.

steering would sometimes stop working for split seconds while driving, headgasket blew battery would always drain somehow when it was turned off... The damn thing is in the junk yard now next to about 60 others only got 50 bucks Fuck all i can say i love my VW check it out

Ive owned both of these vehicles.. the 420A avenger has the same motor as a DOHC neon.. which is also the same as a base model eclipse durring this gen. 95-99.... so who cares.. they are all slow, and between the three vehicles with that motor who ever has the lightest car wins, and at that point they all go the same speed(118)top . if you want fast you need 4G63!
well i have a V6 and there isnt much you can get the basics such as a cold air intake,a exaust system, Nos, a performance chip and possibly headers but there rare to find for avengers because they are custom made. or if you havew the money you can have a turbo system built. but your best bet is to swap engines with a 2g eclipse (3.0 liter V6) and it will bolt right into the engine bay and because its an eclipse, there is unlimited parts.
Yes, if you get the 2.0 4 cylinder. the V6 has virtually no performnce parts at all for it. if you get the 2.0 liter (which is the same as the eclipse) and put a turbo on it, it will be a quick car.

There are 3 really nice avengers in my area, 2 of which are 4 cyl (one bone stock) and one is a 6 cyl (owned by a friend) and the 6 cyl is always getting smoked by the 4 cyls. Even the stock 4 cyl tends to beat him. Then again, so does my neon and all we have is a UDP, CAI, and about 150 lbs worth of reductions done.

Neons arn't slow. They are however, the modern day equivilant of the "K" car. That is they used the cheapest parts, cheapest manufactureing techniques, cheapest everything. All intended to lower the cost down, in order to market a new car to teens.
I know this, because I own one, and its been the most reliable and fun car I've ever driven or known! I've had it for almost 5 years now, and I wouldn't trade it for the world! I don't care what anyone else has to say about them. Lol i once got very drunk and smached through big snow banks in a lumber yard one night and never got stuck with that old neon. it was also auto and was compleatly fucked at about 180 000 kms. even the door panels broke :S
steering would sometimes stop working for split seconds while driving, headgasket blew battery would always drain somehow when it was turned off... The damn thing is in the junk yard now next to about 60 others only got 50 bucks Fuck all i can say i love my VW check it out

Ive owned both of these vehicles.. the 420A avenger has the same motor as a DOHC neon.. which is also the same as a base model eclipse durring this gen. 95-99.... so who cares.. they are all slow, and between the three vehicles with that motor who ever has the lightest car wins, and at that point they all go the same speed(118)top . if you want fast you need 4G63!

well i have a V6 and there isnt much you can get the basics such as a cold air intake,a exaust system, Nos, a performance chip and possibly headers but there rare to find for avengers because they are custom made. or if you havew the money you can have a turbo system built. but your best bet is to swap engines with a 2g eclipse (3.0 liter V6) and it will bolt right into the engine bay and because its an eclipse, there is unlimited parts.

Yes, if you get the 2.0 4 cylinder. the V6 has virtually no performnce parts at all for it. if you get the 2.0 liter (which is the same as the eclipse) and put a turbo on it, it will be a quick car.

There are 3 really nice avengers in my area, 2 of which are 4 cyl (one bone stock) and one is a 6 cyl (owned by a friend) and the 6 cyl is always getting smoked by the 4 cyls. Even the stock 4 cyl tends to beat him. Then again, so does my neon and all we have is a UDP, CAI, and about 150 lbs worth of reductions done.

Neons arn't slow. They are however, the modern day equivilant of the "K" car. That is they used the cheapest parts, cheapest manufactureing techniques, cheapest everything. All intended to lower the cost down, in order to market a new car to teens.

I don't care what anyone else has to say about them.
