Not sure about the casting though. Robert Newton and John Mills as 'brothers'?
They couldn't be more different physically-even their great talents couldn't convince they audience that this fresh-faced little guy was related to this stooping, lanky swarthy rogue!
Pity Robert Newton was polished off so soon. The scenes with him and his great friend John Mills (who called him a 'big man with a big heart' are great.
It was enjoyable from the nostalgic point of view as regards the period not the movie itself which was new to me, but to see John Mills pretending intermittently and unsuccessfully to be a cockney pretending to be a Chicago tough was rather embarrassing. I was greatly surprised to read that it was directed by the director of "Things To Come" which I greatly admire and have watched frequently. The production team were evidently targeting a public less unsophisticated than they had imagined. Thanks
Thank you for sharing this. I heard or read about this movie many years ago and always wanted to see it. It is an interesting film and glad I was able to watch it. Thank you again.
Thanks! That makes a lot more sense :)
