I got this album, along with Wild Dogs from my girlfriends friend's boyfriend's friend in the fall of 1987. Yeah say it 3 times fast... anyway been a Testament fan ever since. (25 years and counting.)
Souls of Black is a very underrated album. I personally think that it was much less that the album was "rushed", and more that thrash metal was fading from popularity in the very early 90s, and their label just didn't push them or this album enough. And obviously, on their next album, the label MADE them change their sound, and we all see how that worked out. All in all, SoB is a great album with some really kick ass songs. It was my first Testament album.
@SaifDude95 Most of the other thrash bands that came up in the 80s loved Metallica, and "wanted to be" Metallica. Just like Metallica loved and wanted to be Iron Maiden/Diamond Head/Moterhead/Black Sabbath/etc.

Even so, it doesn't change the fact that they not only changed their image for money, but failed to live up to the standards they had set with their 4-5 good albums that they had previously released. They have yet to redeem themselves, and "Lulu" is not helping their image one bit.

The two common ways of getting it is for one falling asleep with your arm dangling off the back of a chair, or two falling asleep on the couch with your arm dangling over the side. Ya know that weird pinching feeling ya get when ya wake up on the couch with arm dangling from the side?

As to metallica my comment was directed at the abomination known as saint anger which to me doesn't really sound like a metallica album.

They still use the same old guitars and pickups, so sonically they sound the same, I just don't agree with metallica's latest musical direction, as I said they should be setting the trends not following them. as fathers of the genre I just expected a little bit more from them more on par with what they have previously done.
Without Sabbath there would likely be no death metal genre. Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore were the people that started a whole lot of this trend. Venom the true godfathers of black metal and in the beginning Slayer was called Black Metal. People leaned different ways to play and Eddie Van Halen came in and it was never the same. At least that's how I remember it. When I grew up Alice was this evil creature who beheaded himself on stage and Black Sabbath personified the devil.

@shredhead67 Dude, they can do whatever the hell they want. You're just like most other metalheads who don't want change. I'm glad Metallica came out with the Black album and I'm glad that Megadeth came out with Countdown to Extinction. Most bands change their sound and you should respect that.

@Rockstar7179 I was merely stating an opinion, I've always prefered friedman with megadeth because he just knows how to make a truly awesome and inspiring solo, its like an explosion of awesome ripping out of your speakers.....like he did on countdown to extinction which also happens to be my favourite album. As to metallica my comment was directed at the abomination known as saint anger which to me doesn't really sound like a metallica album.

They still use the same old guitars and pickups, so sonically they sound the same, I just don't agree with metallica's latest musical direction, as I said they should be setting the trends not following them. as fathers of the genre I just expected a little bit more from them more on par with what they have previously done.

Without Sabbath there would likely be no death metal genre. Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore were the people that started a whole lot of this trend. Venom the true godfathers of black metal and in the beginning Slayer was called Black Metal. People leaned different ways to play and Eddie Van Halen came in and it was never the same. At least that's how I remember it. When I grew up Alice was this evil creature who beheaded himself on stage and Black Sabbath personified the devil.
