The actual word camcorder was created by combining Video camera and video recorder. So yes it actually is supposed to take pictures as well.

Camcorders where made to shoot videos not take photos. :D Still image capture is just an additional function for those who want a two in one gadget. I'd suggest getting a DSLR for shooting still images, they do a remarkable job. Great review on the camera. Now I know what to get. Thanks.

I believe sony (HDR-CX100) is the way to go. One of the best cameras I have. It cost $500. I have an more expensive camera from Canon, but the quality isn't oh-so that good. I don't believe the interface is as important as the performance and quality. So for me, It's what the end result will be.

The last point was a little dumb to lose points over... nit-picking 'picture' mode shots? C'mon. I think those were just sympathy points for Sony.

And personally I would have docked Sony 2 points for the stupid proprietary Pro Duo format. Those stupid things cost 2.5x the amount of SDHC! Not an insignificant cost when you're putting in 16GB+ sized storage cards.

Get the HF100 instead. Cheaper, same quality as HF10.

Built in memory is not convenient anyway, because you'll need cables. Better to use the cartridges and plug them into your card reader or just straight into the laptop if it has a built in card reader, which most of them do now.

I agree. However for those who have a budget, HF100 with a 8GB or 16gb (or two 8GB SDHC Class 6 SD cards) would be the way to go. With the money saved, you can even get some accessories and extra extended batteries for your camera!

I too have the HF10, and I LOVE IT. I went to Best Buy to get it, andI saw the CX7 next to it. I almost went with it because I saw 1080p and more internal memory. I decided to go with Canon though, because I had already done my homework on it. After watching this video, i'm so glad I didn't go with the CX7.
