  • Great song, great performance!

  • Inspirational: Fantastic roll models in those days. Fantastic time for music, Fantastic times. Was he really singing to the Taped music?? That sounded incredible! The DIXIE HUMMINGBIRDS were "Incredible". The sounded better "Live" than in the recording studio!

  • Is that Worf from Star Trek? Pretty sure. Worf sure can sing!

  • Thanks for great video.

    Good ?"What becomes of brokenheart?"

Many of us are living in Bay Area(smile)

  • looks like a retro Kanye West

  • @nostuh34

that is spot on, good call

  • I know this song from experience.whoever wrote this song knows how it REALLY is/was.

  • I could listen to this forever. Beautiful.

  • Makes one really think, and not too mention cry their eyes out just to have that want of desire back in their arms to hold tight, once again!

  • 99 Is going to run out right now and get some Jade East and pin striped sox !

  • Thank you for sharing, that is definitively the way I feel today

  • He looks like Kanye West

  • @kevineyago That might be that fool up there!!! He samples so much shit!

  • @kevineyago and that will be the only time in history the 2 will be mantioned in the same sentence but i agree they look alike

  • Great song

  • Beautiful song! Who on earth would dislike it??

  • @kanevector RACIST PEOPLE

  • Those were the good old day's with Smokey, Al Green, Temptations, Stevie, and all the other Great Soul singers. If we could just turn back hands of time. Just reminiscing...

  • @daydreamer440 We ARE turning back the hands of time by keeping this music alive!

  • This is a great song. Everybody has felt like this at one time or another. Thanks for sharing these videos.

  • The first concert I ever attended was the Temps late 60's, White guy who grew up loving the Motown sound.

  • @zilcheynon thats me, i love the motowns, its all i lesten to

  • @zilcheynon, It wasn't you fault my friend... its this awfully great music that invaded your ears and opened your heart.

  • just heard this in last nights coronation street... i love this song

  • I was just thinking about this song

  • lool and i know what u wanna get of me

  • Still one of the most powerful and moving 'loved and lost' songs ever written.

  • i saw him live i was only 14 i never forgot his patten leather shoes.some music lives for ever!

  • Love is song.

    Still listen in 2011.

  • You guys must be really young. I was a pre-teen when MOTOWN TOOK OVER THE WORLD. Yes, there's nothing like it and there can never be another era like it. I fell in love to it, grew up with it, and still, Motown is very much part of my life. God bless Mr. Berry Gordy! We must be grateful for the tracks we do have, and appreciate those masters who are still with us. I don't care if I hear the same songs 100 times. They never get old to me. Long the the Tempin' Temps and the Tops, babies!

  • I'm not saying music that has sythisizers isn't great music. I'm saying that I prefer to hear real instruments.

  • The Ruffin brothers could definately throw it down. If drug addiction hadn't claimed David he probably would have been a bigger star. Glad to hear Jimmy fared okay.

  • Great music, excellent vocals. This is a special sound.

  • I always loved this song, now i understand it :/

  • What the hell is Lamont Sanford doin singin? Who's watchin the junk yard?

  • lol i am ur girl toy

  • saw this guy in 1973 at wigan casino blown me away what a guy

  • Yes Jimmy was David's older brother. He's in his early seventies now. I guess after David died Jimmy became vocal about substance abuse. From what I understand he still performs and seems to be doing well.

  • I always loved this song. Very talented family. Jimmy very underrated.

  • @margolou2010 so he is related to david ruffin of the temptations ??

  • Comment removed

  • no those days are gone and i miss them

  • mmh just turned 18 and want to learn what fun is all about

  • there is david ruffin, levy stubbs, elvis and smokey thats it

  • where is barry white now that we need him?

  • dave ruled

  • love it wish today's music made me feel the same way

  • i love this song and his voice

  • jimmy ruffin knows a broken heart when he sees one

  • I always thought he was a better singer than his brother. His brother always sounded hoarse to me.

  • Although the orchestra sounds great backing Jimmy, I prefer his Motown recorded version because the tempo is slower and souful. Plus, it was the legendary 'Funk Brothers' backing Jimmy!!!

  • Jimmy Ruffin b. 1939 older brother of David Ruffin of Temptations. He's 6'3"

  • You just can't help but turn this up loud and sing along! Truly a classic.

  • @kifurban I was lucky enough to be doing the same back in the 60's when this was blasting out of car radios. Oh it was such a sweet time in terms of music!!!

  • one of those sounds that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up,so much of what he has said is true, most will have passed that way sometime in life,GREAT TALENT.

    FROM UK

  • If u like the original look up rod stewards version sometimes. He nails the feel of this song too

  • man, all of the singers were so ugly back in the day. what a shame that physical appearance matters more than talent these days.

  • Absolute Class!!!!!

  • Terry Crews from the expendables

  • He looks like Terry Crews from the Expendables

  • erm i am rich now

  • What ya'll don't realize is that this is Kanyes' dad....real talk

  • @doccandie

No it's not, His Kanye's Dad's name is ' Ray West'

  • Jimmy is a great talent. He is equal to his late brother David in song mastering.

  • Does anyone else think he looks like Kanye West?

  • @camaroyal Wow! Yea, except for he was a REAL musician, unlike that prick Kanye West

  • @peppersax And Jimmy Ruffin was (and is) a genuinely nice guy. No attitude problems, unlike some of the performers now.

  • @peppersax

Now hold on just a minute.

  • @camaroyal Its true!!!! lol

  • When I was a teenager...this was one of my favorite songs....thanks for sharing...GREAT ARTIST...!!!

  • 39 people are broken hearted

  • BAD ASS!!!

  • Great Track.

  • A world filled with love is a wonderful sight. Being in love is one's heart's delight. But that look of love isn't on my face. That enchanted feeling has been replaced.......... As I walk this land of broken dreams, I have visions of many things. Love's happiness is just an illusion, Filled with sadness and confusion. What becomes of the broken hearted Who had love that's now departed? I know I've got to find Some kind of peace of mind Maybe.
  • Almost every singer where gospel singers before they hit the big times don't ever forget that.

  • wow he looks like kanye west long lost daddy......but he can damn sure sing

  • Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knit and the Pips, Marvin Gaye, Dusty Springfield, Simon Burke, Ray Charles, James Brown. Is that enough origianal artists for you? And I do like some music of the 80's but hate the electronic sound of some of the bands. Being a musician I like to hear something down to earth, not in outerspace. Too me it sounds too robotic. Not necessicarly in beat but in tone.

  • hmmm origanal stuff...blues: Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Muddy waters. Rockabilly : Early Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Rich, Early Roy Orbison, Johnny Burnette, Scotty Moores guitar playing. R&B Rock and roll: Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Bo diddly, Big Joe Turner. Doo wop: Platters, Drifters, Coasters, Diamonds, Five Satins, Dion and the Belmonts. R&B soul: Smokey Robinson and the Maricals, Martha and the Vandelas, The Temptations,

  • I agree this was the time when there was real talent. Long live the past legends

  • Love it !

  • Just lovely.

  • This music is so great. Why the hell isn't more of this music? There is some with artists like Duffy, Adele and the late Amy Winehouse, but still not enough. I'm sick of synths and fake drums. Sorry to those who like it, but as a musician I'm not that crazy about electronic music. I love the orchestration on this song. I wish R&B and pop would get back to more of this sound. That's just my opinion. To anybody that likes todays music no offense intended. To each his own.

  • @MrMattRocker: Those artists are imitators. you seem to like original stuff but mention them? The 80's was original music but the instruments were electronic. You like those huh? I hear you though. Maybe the powers that be don't want us to fell good for what is to come?

  • @MrMattRocker I agree completely. A pitty we don't have any soul music as from the 60-70 any more.Pls give me back some more real sax as from Junior Walker. Dirk

  • @MrMattRocker Those Days Are Gone, Never to come back.

  • @MrMattRocker That's kindof an earmark of Motown music. Beautiful orchestration, woodwinds and strings. This was a fantastic era for music. What a legacy that was left to us !!!

  • @MrMattRocker I know what you mean. The feeling, the magic is gone. You could feel the music

back then, but now it's just that "fake" sound. Guess it's easier to work "the board" than it is to

put together a band (a good one) to make music any more. Everything is switches and buttons.

  • @MrMattRocker I agree.

  • @MrMattRocker Not to knock your tastes, but there is a lot of great music that uses synthesizers. Mostly the music I am talking about is from the 70's though, like funk.

  • @MrMattRocker absolutely agree, nothing in todays music scene can compare with classics such as this, ktf

  • @MrMattRocker I couldn't have said it better....

  • @MrMattRocker i don't rate 2 of those artists you mentioned, no different to anything else and i have no idea who duffy is

  • @MrMattRocker That would be great as long as they loose those 1970's "walking suits!"

  • Kanye West?

  • life is fucking great,jokes its shit :( :( :(

  • @luvyellowroses1 ...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • I dont need anyone! cause no one needs me!

  • He sang this to my mom while holding her hand, she was pregnant with my sister at the time. My dad told her she should have slid one of his rings off his hand, lol

  • que bella cancion♥cool, wonderfull♥.♫♪

  • man to have 2brothers become great singers and stars talent runs deep .

  • Mind is boggled wondering how anyone can compare this man to Kanye West. Please do some research before making ignorant comments..Goggle is your friend! :)

  • @nemoism All I can see is if they were comparing the facial features. That's all.

  • @Heavenlypearl1908 Oh ok I can see it a little bit, thanks for clarifying.I Need to learn not to sleepy comment before having the facts lol

  • 34 people are deaf!

  • What talent.

  • The best!

  • Yeeee

  • Idiot here. I stand corrected. David Ruffin it was. The Temptations aint nothin' without David Ruffin. Idiot asks for you forgiveness.

  • @D84D Not true...Paul was better than Ruffin...Dennis was just waaay worse.. "I Want a Love I Can See," "Paradise," "Oh Mother of Mine," and "Don't Look Back." In that order...their 4best songs... "Beauty's Only Skin Deep" is probly their best record w/ Ruffin on lead.."My Girl's" better instrumentally...not vocally..

  • jimmy didnt do that idiot!!!!!! that was david ruffin! jimmy was a class act,

  • from one 1960 to another very well stated

  • Comment removed

  • @D84D sadly..fame, money & power, (& usually in that order) all can lead one to be very egotistical...always has been that way..and maybe will always be..but the truth of "talent" in and of itself...is just that...it is ..what it is....i have heard that Ruffin was known for that....for sure i saw Kanye act a fool.. too bad..and very, very, sad..if the public should ever decide to hold these "popular folks" accountable maybe they would thing twice before acting so RUDELY..$'s is where u hit em

  • he look like and old kanye west lol

  • Hmm, my brother somewhat favors him. But he has a great voice. Very uplifting in a way actually.

  • I think I have played this song at least once everyday for the past week now lol. such a timeless classic

  • best song of all time

  • SSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...and this is LIVE BAY-BEEEEEEE! Great Post! Many Thankseseses!

  • This is one of the songs on my Daddy's motown c.d.'s I use to sing along to when riding in his car with him when I was little. Great memories:)

  • I first heard this song when I was 14. I´m about to be 22 and Ive had my ups and downs with enough gals to know this pain but when I hear the end of this song it seems to patch the rough nights I could have spent.

Thanks for being the someone there who knows what someone can be going thru.

  • Awesome!! 10 thumbs up!!

  • @missjodybee so many memories of good times real music

  • what ever happened to talented singers and musicians? Im 16 and really wish i was able to have lived through this era, seem alot more enjoyable!

  • LOVE IT !!! He looks like Kanye West LOOOL

  • @km538 The looks are where it ends, Jimmy Ruffin was a very good singer and brother to the lead singer of one of the greatest groups ever, Kanye West is a no-talent obnoxious idiot.

  • Kanye looks like him -____-

  • @SpeculateThis wow I was just about to post that

  • that is a stone cold fucking pimp.

  • I love how he starts singing at 0:20 after he recites the poem, just totally chill about it and without any big gesture.

Yeah, Imma gonna blow your ears with my once-in-a-centure-voice, but it's not that big of a deal, dude.

Jimmy Ruffin is a freaking legend.

  • @The25thAndTheMoon - with u

  • 32 people are __________(fill in with disparaging, hurtful comment)

  • its a pity kanye west didnt get his dads vocal abilities

  • @110366961 HAHAHA .. they really do look alike wow

  • the true quality of soul will be like the birds singing in the tree,s,it will be here/there always on going, other,s will follow like sheep this one is just like the last one.

    take care all

    thehedgehope

  • THIS IS MY SHAT!!!!!! REAL MUSIC! thanx for this..

  • Beautiful Song.

  • Is this live? I am confused - this version is much different than Jimmy's recorded one- yet UK TV shows from the 70's were never live. Regardless, it is magic.

  • See you didn't have to be a "pretty boy" or even "good-looking" like Jimmy to make it in music back in the day. Back then it really was about the music, not about the visuals. What they focus on now made for not only shallow music but shallow fans as well who have never heard the real deal. It may be too late, but I wish they could just go back to basics. No sampling classic clips - create their own clips. Write songs that mean something & that will still stand 40 years later.

  • YOU CAN TELL THIS IS DAVID RUFFINS BROTHER ....HE SOUNDS A LIL LIKE DAVID...ALTHOUGH DAVID HAD A MUCH STRONGER VOICE...DONT KNOW WHY JIMMY NEVER MADE IT AS BIG AS DAVID

  • @MZLIBRA1969 Jimmy was good, but David was Godly, superb, amazing voice

  • @Palsharpton you are so right about that...i definetly agree with you....i just figured as big as david was....jimmy would have been somewhere right behind him.

  • all we have is cookie cutter music.it all sounds the same.if your not beautiful or a gansta, you wont make it.

  • God bless folks like jimmy, david & eddie for bringing us such happiness through their music throughout all these years.

  • 49Jjms

The brokenhearted only have to go to GOD, He will mend your heart....Music is my life also, and when I'm on my pc listening to my music......it's good....real good. Praying for you. Keep on wanting to go on, because GOD is GREAT

  • This song brings me back to wanting to go on,See i just had another Stroke and I only have this pc and my music....This song has always brought me to see that the world is Great...J.R.

  • Jimmy was overshadowed by little bro David, but he had one of the best voices of any singer I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot.....I'm 70 yrs old..This song, along with "I Passed this way before" in my humble opinion, are 2 of the best songs ever recorded.Jimmy is a treasure, there's nobody like him in today's music scene. etc60,I couldnt've said it better myself.

  • One of my most favorite Motown tunes from back in the day of 45rpm records.

Such a nice treat to see the artist live on TV.

    Thanks so much, LA Guy

  • Him and his brother sound alike, but David is better ;)

  • the best of all the temptations was good old jimmy ruffins.

  • @maktye umm jimmy was not a temptation...it was his brother david !!!

  • This is great music, just to be born back then to enjoy REAL MUSIC and singing

  • this man sings like a proffesional :D and he was , and he will remain a great singer.

  • For you kids out there,.. this... is... called... taaaaaallllllleeeeennnnnt. It's spelled t-a-l-e-n-t. Look it up.

  • JIMMY IS A GREAT SINGER BUT HE CANT BLOW LIKE DAVID

  • does any1 notice there is no half naked girls dancing behind him, strobe lights, girl bartending in background, or anything like that in a modern "love"R&B Song, im 23 if i had musical talents i would bring Motown back

  • Yeah, looks came second back then. Can you imagine how many men who look like Jimmy or David Ruffin or Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone (they're okay looking, but not physically sexy at all), but are just as talented can't be famous now because they don't look as good as Rhianna? It's a great loss.

  • @clariola davis ruffin was the ladies man he started losing his sex appeal during the 80's

  • Jimmy Ruffin, I know you`re probably dead by now, but I love you. <3

  • @GwendolynRaine Jimmy Ruffin is still ALIVE, in fact he just turned 73 on May 7....:-)

  • @Sophfa86 Eep. He's old! Still love em' though.

  • @GwendolynRaine hes not dead he lives n europe and having a cd coming out next year

  • I wonder if he and David had the same daddy; they bear no resemblance whatsoever. They both developed wonderful voices, though. I hope Jimmy still has his radio show

  • Comment removed

  • My god. No autotune. No miming. The way he came in on the 1st verse. Pure passion for music

  • WTF KANYE WEST ???

  • Thanks for posting.........great voice !!

  • He sings better LIVE then most artists today IN THE STUDIO VERSION... Back then you had no internet, you couldn't "Go viral", you only made it by having actual TALENT. We're hyping CRAP and forgetting about the true legends...

  • Is this live or lipsink?

    Either way, immaculate timing!

  • just a total classic,love it.

  • it dont get no better than this

  • one of the best songs ever

  • Great, great artist! Great, great song!

  • that God for you-tube; for those who truly love good quality music we can still obtain it through this venue! This took me way back. There's a song called "Make It Like It Was" , I believe Regina Bell song it ; I would love to make music like it was. . .

  • brings me to tears to think what music has become . the way there are so many people out there without taste

  • It kind of upsets me when people compare modern R&B singers to guys like Jimmy Ruffin and other singers from his day. This classic song is from an era where, as a singer, you had to sure enough bring it. No studio trickery like pro-tools and whatnot to fix your voice. And the generation before that one, where there was no overdubbing - the song was all one take, musicians and all! Giants truly walked the earth back then. Today talent is less important than looks and a cool image.

  • @elc1960 --- Well stated.

  • @xyzmikey2 Cool - a positive response from the person who uploaded this great footage. Thank you! Oh yeah, as for the people comparing Mr. Ruffin to Kanye West: why in hell would you compare this great vocalist to a spoiled, self-indulgent snotty punk who gets more notoriety for his obnoxious public behavior than for anything he's ever done in the recording studio? Again, thanks Mikey!

  • @elc1960 with his fake ass voice too.

  • @elc1960 Not saying i dont agree with your comment, but if you take the time to watch some of Kanye's interviews you can see why he acts how he does after the loss of his mother.
