some of the comments i see on these iraqi elections astound me! the stupidity of people. they have no idea how bad things were under sadam. anyone expressing a view point other then what sadam wanted were severely punished or put to death or had their family put to death or imprisoned or beaten or had jobs taken away and theirs lives. i'm glad he brought his son with him. i hope he teaches him to never let anyone take away his freedom! this is exactly what the war was about....democracy

lol........you think this is going to be graded? retard? not representing jesus too well i see. try understanding the book of Job or perhaps proverbs or perhaps paul? without love you are nothing.
For all the money we have poured into this place and all the oil they produce bringing them that much more money......all they can afford is a fucking plastic tupperware bin for the presidential votes?
gstrike79, your one-sided opinion is as laughable as your inflated numbers. These are FREE Iraqi people, voting in a FREE election, which is something they could not do under the tyrannical, murderous Hussein regime. They are able to determine the direction of their own country now, like people should be able to do anywhere. Try not to be so short-sighted-it causes your own ignorance to show.
A poll in 2006 showed that 51% of "free" Iraqis would rather be governed under Islamic law(saddam didnt use it) than a democracy that has PROVEN to be ineffective there. but the US would not allow it. Now i ask you what kind of freedom is forcing a "democracy" on people that don't want it
Who ran the poll? Did they have an agenda they were forwarding? If an Islamic Republic is what the Iraqi people truly want, now they have the right to vote for candidates who will take them in that direction. Under Saddam, merely advocating such a thing could bring persecution, torture, even death. And I guarantee the Sunnis do not want to live with Shia Islam, the Shia do not want to live with Sunni Islam, & the Kurds don't want either one. You're over-simplifying to push your agenda.
The poll was conducted by the University of michicgan and it included Baghdad along with 16 of the 18 provinces in iraq, which include sunnis, shia, and kurds. And we all know saddam was an evil ruthless dictator but my point is the US would never allow Iraq to become anything other than a democracy that is run by officials that the US appoints.
Ambassador Bremner bent over backwards to include representatives who were already well-received leaders of the Iraqi people in the post-war interim ruling council. For the first time since the formation of modern Iraq, he was able to get Shia, Sunni, and Kurds to the table at one time. The constitution they produced is a remarkable document that protects the interests of each people. All the U.S. insisted on was that freedom of religion be protected.
The U.N., hardly an organization that rubber-stamps U.S. actions, was on-board and in agreement every step of the way. U.S. troop presence is now under 100,000-we are withdrawing exactly as we promised to do. Soon, we will be in no position to "appoint" or otherwise dictate anything to the free Iraqi government.
You can say what you want to paint the U.S. as nothing but an evil occupier all you like. You obviously are no friend of American democracy. But it doesn't change history.
