I had my first flight training in a DA-20 yesterday. Let me tell ya, it's harder to fly than it looks. I loved it though. I'm so excited to become a Pilot, I just have sooo much to learn.
@scvs2 Anytime you begin a bank movement, rudder is necessary to stay coordinated (otherwise the plane does a sliding or slipping motion). Once the bank is establishing and stabilized you don't need to keep the rudder in (most cases).
@br1ancrowell I know, right? I just flew a da20 and fell in love with it! I currently have about 15 hours, and I was looking for an "old" katana for training, and the cheapest one I cound find was $95000 :'/ ah well, the good old 172 will do for now
Actually it's perfectly legal for one to fly as early as 12 years of age, as long as there is a PIC on board. The restriction is to solo, and for that you have to be 16, 17 to get a private pilot liscense.
go back to your FAR's noob. Its age 14 for minimum to learn to fly. And cant solo or get your CERTIFICATE untill 16. the FAA does not give out Licenses.
You know, that kind of attitude is uncalled for and before you correct people you might want to do your homework too! FAR 61.103 (a) for private pilot eligibility states: "Be at least 17 years of age for a rating in other than a glider or balloon." NOT 16. 16 is minimum for solo. As for the name, true it's called a "certificate" but thats just symantics. ( Also, you CAN learn to fly earlier...you simply cant COUNT it toward your PPL hours, only those after 14 years of age count. <--my CFII)
I flew a cessna 172 at 12 but I flew the DA-C1 this spring and I love it. much better than the cessna. and I will take my solo licence next year in the eclpse and I look forvart to it alot
You got one sexy aircraft there with the leather seats/trim and all. I would hve liked to see more of cockpit shots like when you use rudder in a bank and also stick.
I just want to have a feel of whats it is like to fly an Eclipse rather that a Cessna.
I'll have to do one like that in the future. I've flown both, and they are really completely different aircraft. From the view, to the controls, and the behavior of the plane. I love the stick and low wing design, and the performance far exceeds a 152 (a 172 is a fairer perf. comparison).
It's an artifact of the video. Aparently when there is allot of noise the audio, and you splice it up, it starts doing that. It's annoying I know...I'll have to fix that...
I was wondering if this airplane would be cramped for me, cessna 172 i find very comfortable, but i am 6'2 and 220 pounds. How is it with an instructor?

When truing the aircraft in mid air, do you use both the rudder and ailerons?

Sweet little sports car in the sky. I only have DA40 experience not 20. They are slick birds.

Holy crap! Your tail number is 223DC. I fly a DA20 with the tail number 322DC. How cool!

The visibility is so much better in Diamonds than in Cessnas.

I have never heard this thumping sound before. What is it?
saevaroa 1 year ago
lol well, it was attached to my headset...so it was totally hands free. I actually forgot about it once I got into my checklist flow.

Wow, I'd love to get the chance to pilot a DA-42...that's a NICE bird! Gotta agree the Diamonds are fantastic! Just wish I could afford my own!

@br1ancrowell
Same here! You can't beat FADEC and gear that can extend during at any airpseed. Use those suckers as airbreaks!

That thumping sound is that the fuel pump or what?
saevaroa 2 years ago
No, for some reason when the video was spliced...the engine noise created an artifact...doesn't exist in the original video.

@br1ancrowell yea i think thats because of the compression

all the footage of taxiing is totally unnecessary

Agreed, but at the time I didn't know how to edit it out. It's just raw clip footage.

My friend I'm 6'4" and I fit in it.The trick to the plane is that the seats don't move the rudder pedals do.That was a 1st for me.You'll be fine.

were you holding the camera the whole time?!?!?!?
CaptainZ1627 3 years ago
lol no, that wouldn't be a good idea. I had it zip-tied to the headset. That's why it tended to shoot the top of the canopy allot.
br1ancrowell 3 years ago
Sweet. I'm starting my training soon I'll be flying the DA20 too.
