I think it's fairly obvious that what he says is correct. I have no doubt that if Obama is elected president, our image with respect to the rest of the world will be far more positive. However, he fails to explain why this is an argument in Obama's favor. What validity does the opinion of the rest of the world have in our decisions? We should not be considering whether the world likes us, but whether they are right in their accusations.

The EU leadership disgusts me. They are not accountable in the least and they have been threatening Ireland because we dared to ratify one of their treaties. (We were the only country with a constitutional requirement to have a referendum on the treaty - in other countries, the political classes voted and the people were denied the right to vote) Now the EU is threatening to leave Ireland out of the union and saying we owe them because of the aid we got when Ireland was poor. It's perplexing.

Just today I read that a new lisbon treaty will be voted for in Ireland, that keeps the issues of abortion, irish neutrality and taxation....so thats true democracy?. the vote goes the wrong way so they change the title, they still vote no so the make a few more changes....how many times to people have to say no before they get the point???

As to the Lisbon treaty tweaking - I think it is reassuring. The chiefs in Europe had to listen to Irish concerns and in the end had to address them. Ireland did Europe a favour by reminding its citizens of the power of democracy and the voice of the people.

@ferrozm The Mujahadine did have some radicals like OBL, but it also had benevolent humans like Ahmed Shah Massoud, whom tried to usher in Democracy to Afghanistan, but failed when Al Qaeda and the ISI finally assassinated him because he wouldn't sell his Country to Pakistan.

You have to look at the "grand chessboard" if we didn't contribute to the resistance in Afghanistan, and the Soviets succeeded, the cold war would have continued.
