Thanks for the tutorial. Really enjoyed it. Just wondering, can you use alcohol inks on shrink plastic and if so, would you use it before or after firing?
@Tootledim Glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I have not experimented with alcohol inks, but I would imagine before or after would work. I would just read the ink packaging carefully to make sure that heating it to 325 degrees won't cause toxic fumes! Have fun : )
Hi Jessica. No guidance on the packaging, so I checked with Tim Holtz and it's fine. Not worked with the plastic before so will put that next on my wish list. Thanks again.
Hi Jessica, try painting first,do a design and paint in more designs, then shrink it.I thought that was the way it Should be.But I guess you could paint after....
Great job, thanks for the video, but I'm french and I don't understand the part When you explain in the oven, you say when the shrinky plastic Curls up and becomes attached. I can't make big pieces cause The plastic deforms. I make only small pieces can you give me an advice for that please ?
Thanks for the comment. Yes, sometimes the plastic curls and becomes attached to itself. Sometimes this can be fixed, sometimes it can't. The best bet is to let it un-attach while still in the oven, just being patient. If it is clear the plastic is stuck, remove it from the oven, let it cool for a few seconds, and then try un-attaching it. After unsticking, place it back in the oven and let it flatten out. Some pieces are more stubborn than others, and you may have to start again. Best of luck!
Hi Jessica - I find that using some type of bath powder (light coat) on the plastic before putting it in the oven helps to keep it from attaching to itself. Any excess can be wiped off afterwards.
Thank you for the tutorial. It was very helpful. I've never worked with shrink plastic but I've always been thinking about it. Im definitely going out to by me some sheets of shrink plastic at the craft store and try this.

how long did it take to make your flower pin?
taringa09 2 years ago
Around 45 minutes or so total, but if you were doing them with an assembly line approach, you could make many more within that time!

alicepine: download the PDF template from my web site - then you'll have the right size for the piece.
ohohohno: sure you can color the shrinky dinks first! It will just give it a different look. I'd love to see what you make!

how big i am supossed to cut the plastic so it wont shrink to a molecule? or if i want a smaller pin or pieces for earrings
thanks

shrink plastic shrinks down to a third it's size so if you wish a one by one inch charm than you need a 3 x 3 inch piece of plastic.
