@MrFrenchblood You don't have to take classes, but having a good instructor will usually increase your learning curve. Taking a class gives you the chance to have people to practice with, get feedback as you practice from your instructor, etc.
Yes, Liviu, you can hypnotize people non-verbally. I do it sometimes just be exagerating my breathing and being really purposeful with my eye contact. It's usually a little more challenging than verbal inductions, but very rewarding when you do it well.
