Once again, another rescue demonstration video and no floatie tool? you people aren't real lifeguard instructors I take it? real lifeguards use floatie tools to save victims, as well as in the red cross manual and demonstrations.
OMFG read the TITLE!! This is a PHYSICAL STANDARD as in if you take NLS you have to prove you are able to carry someone a certain distance.. aids are in sims
the standard for your NLS (national lifeguarding service)(it's a course all canadian lifeguards must take to become lifeguards) requires you to meet these physical standards, one being an unaided deep water submerged recovery.
yea Anthony is right, there is already water in the lungs, reason for him being down there so deep, covering the mouth is at no point necessary and wow i no many better ways of getting a submerged victim.
im a lifeguard and im pritty sure that you dont cover there mouth after completing not only my STA but my RLSS lifeguard courses and maintaning top marks and 12 hours trainin per month but obviously im dumb lol!! By the way if they down there all ready all ur doing is keeping the water in the lungs coz he/she already paniced and breathed it in if u saving them!!!
@AnthonyThornton In canada, we're ranked as better lifeguards, so we tend to stop any more water from entering their lungs by covering their mouth. Also, by covering their mouth and nose, you are not keeping the water in their lungs. If there is water in their lungs, its going to be a lot harder to get it out than just letting it drain as you swim up.

It may not be necessary or effective, but it is one of the must-sees in the NLS course.

@Kcftball88 you cover there mouth so that no MORE water gets in their lungs. And whats a better way of recovering a submerged victim then?

@AnthonyThornton People may take you more seriously if you would learn some basic grammar and spelling to go along with that lifeguard license.
