John Dillinger will always be a national hero. No matter how much the FBI tries to slander his name. The fact is, he stole from corrupt banks but never killed a man in his life. The public loved him. Dillinger was murdered.
@yesiamawizardjonny Stealing from banks is wrong. The peoples money. If it is insured, it is stealing from the govt, which is tax dollars which is the peoples money. Stealing from the people is not my hero.
rep of texas?maybe they have a point.struggle against sadistical indians (commancies,apaches)1830-1870s, sadistical "mexicans 1840s-2010", and pro gene autry! sign this yankee up!
This brings back a lot of memories from my childhood when the Saturday matinee cost a dime and we would work all week for enough pennies to buy a ticket. Gene Autry, Kit Carson, Tom Mix and Roy Rogers were regulars and we would sit in the front row and watch the movies over and over until Dad would come and make us go home.
I'm a youngster compared to you, but I do remember watching silent movies in the park and reading books like the Tom Swift series by lantern light until Mom made me put them away and go to sleep.
@DPerson626 Wow, you've seen a lot of water go under, and over, the damn. It's great that you have adapted to PC's an all at your age too! Good for you!
@DPerson626 l remember all the old Cowboy films from 1932 Buck Jones-Ken Maynard -the heroine Pearl Mitchell all the ones you have mentioned and many more whose names l can't recall-We used to go to the penny rush on Saturday mornings at our local cinema -We also stayed until the Manager turfed us out some of us were small enough to hide under the seats -Happy days long gone now
The Saturday matinee and the serials on radio, along with the public library and Sunday comics in the newspaper, made up just about all our entertainment sources back then, but I really think were were happier than kids today.
The woman who babysat me when I was three or four y.o. used to sing this to me. She had a GREAT voice. When I got a little restless, she'd put me in her lap and just mesmerized me! She knew how to calm me down, and I loved the song AND her. Worked every time.
Thank you, OperaBuff1935, for returning this comments page to common sense and relevancy. I agree totally with you about Gene Autry. One record I grew up with and can find nowhere was The Phantom Stallion. It was a story album. I think it was Autry's, but it might have been by Tex Ritter. I'm asking everyone who might know. Do you? Thank you.
I have loved Gene Autry since i was a kid! Have a lot of his old records,30's-40's For runupahill 1 the name of record is 'the Phantom white stallion of skull valley' by tex ritter in the albun set-Childrens Songs and stories by cowboy tex ritter. hope this helps!
tt really does help, Comicstar1. But it also hurts. I remember staring at the cover of that album for hours and hours, while I listened to that voice sing and tell of Froggy and little doggies and The Phantom Stallion of Skull Valley. But the only thing that stuck in my memory was that beautiful white horse rearing up like a cloud on a cliff, and wishing with all my heart I was that smiling cowboy on his back. Now I remember it was Tex Ritter. Thank you, Comicstar1.
Gene Autry was by far the best of the "Singing Cowboys'. Mnay tried to copy him, but no one came close. Roy Rogers was probably the closest, but he didn't have the light lyric baritone voice that Gene did. Autry was also one heck of a baseball owner - the Los Angeles Angels. He was beloved throughout the baseball world as well as the entertainment world.
@OperaBuff1935 Well... while he was good as far as "Singing Cowboys" go, he did start his career as a Jimmie Rodgers impersonator. This song belongs to that era. He sang this song before he sported the cowboy duds and shot the fellows in black hats. He is, however, great nonetheless.
Thank you for the info you shared along with this song. I always thought it was a very nostalgic song, but appreciate it so much more knowing its history. 5 stars
I searched for el ultimo rodeo, but all I found was instrumentals, and unfortunately the recording quality was very poor. Can you recommend a particular recording, preferably with vocalists? Thanks.
i think this is a very good song for it's age i think a 76 year old piece of music is better than any R'N'B song(r'n'b sucks and rock'n'roll and this is awesome)
Rap is in no way music as it requires no talent or taste...like it or not this man Autry was very talented...of course this was before America's culture was flused and now resides now in a ****house.
@biltom come on, try n spit a few bars of GOOD rhymes n you'll see how hard it is. no doubt its not as hard as other music but you have to give it it's merits. and yea i agree with you about the culture, its a shame :\
Maverick, thanks for the offer but believe me when I say, you do not want to hear me sing..I mean no disrespect to the great singers and good people like Gene Autry....beating on a hubcap, wearing clown clothes, shaking your hand like you are trying to get a booger off a finger and shouting trash with filthy words while spitting is something morons call rap. It has no merit and is degrading to the public and the poor fools that do it. It is in no way music, it requires no talent or self respect.
Haha rap requires more then you know go learn how to make beats and generate ur own rhymes...but yeah on a side note I love old country music and heavy as hell metal so dont judge me as I know you will.... :P Im far from ignorant....
I do respect all types of music, some I don't care for but people have different taste.....my point is that RAP is not music at all, it is pure noise that any person foolish enough to want to look and sound like a fool can do it...that is not music unless you even consider silly things like when my bulldog farts as a form of music, that is as much talent as any moron needs to spit, prance and spout RAP CRAP...respect for that, not in my lifetime
What's the name of that song that starts at the "allmost" end when he is sitting in the movie theater ? That touchy song you know. If somebody knows please pm me with it. Cheers
I'm teed that this ain't on the soundtrack, as well. *sigh* just gotta download it. though I don't know why they couldn't just put it on the soundtrack since it was playing during the credits.
Dillinger once sung this in a car with a captured Bank Teller. He did this to get on the public's side. The teller said that they had fun in the car with Dillinger. "We drank and sang songs. And Johnny's got a great voice!" is what the teller said to the press.
Great tune. I wish Ranger Doug would dial this one up from time to time.
