  • Today's Asian pop singers don't come close to Teresa Teng. There's never been another singer like her since she passed away. She was an extremely rare talent, and a great loss to the world of popular music.

  • great great i love that ^^, she beuty!

  • 노래를 참 맛있게 하는군요 love t.t

  • 鄧麗君 品貌双全!

  • TT the Perfect Woman with the Perfect Voice.

  • Her song .....her style ...... is for eternity. Thanks for the upload.

  • Love her voice, her appearance and her performance...such a beautiful lady and excellent singer! She is my favorite forever.

  • such a lovely tune by such a lovely lady. Rest in Peace Teresa Teng.

  • I would love to find a wife with the characteristics of Teresa.

  • @HanlinSG My Asian wife has most of TT's characteristics, except she doesn't sing, shucks...real good cook though so that makes up for it :-) .

  • I read that Teresa won Japan top awards not once but 3 times. I think it is not easy for outsider to do that given that not only the Japanese would have demanding high standards but also strong racial/nationalistic pride and prejudices. The fact young Teresa could break these barriers is testimony to her greatness. It is to Japanese credit and foresight that they were able to recognise and acknowledge her greatness even bfore she bcame the greatest singer on this planet

  • @Nanyanguo Can't agree with you more. A week ago, I found out she also sang an Italian song when she was 14. It blew my mind away. Love her.

  • Nice song. What is the instrument here? Saxophone or trumpet. Sounds so nice.

  • Very good song. The effect will be better when dinning and listening to her songs which will give you very good feeling and strength. Tks canaanoptical for sharing.

    Cheers.

  • It made me so sad whenever I listen to this song, unbelievable vocals and breathtaking performance, no one has or will shake her foundation as #1 female singer in the asia in 100 years

  • At 21, she blew a lot of estblished singers away.

  • @pdgb101548

Yes, she was not just talented. She really worked hard, training, practicing, attending classes, etc, to improve herself. She didn't win any award by chance.

  • where is she from?

  • She is from Taiwan. Borned in 1953 but passed away on 8th May 1995

  • she's passed away in Thailand

  • Icyhearthflower: She is from Taiwan (ROC)...also known in the past as Formosa. Her parents came from mainland China. Her father was an official at Taiwanese Army.

  • @lostintheAmazones thanks ^^ she's a good singer

  • Icyheartflower: TT is not only a good singer, as many Asians still remember her as a true Diva, among the very few you might count. As for myself, it was her singing that help my wife to captivate me.

  • eh? if you don't mind, what exactly is a Diva?

  • "diva" (divas plural )...You can refer to a successful and famous female opera singer as a diva. n-count

  • oh thanks i learned a lot

  • En música clásica, una diva es una cantante de renombre que se caracteriza por tener una voz excepcional. En latín y en italiano, la palabra diva significa «divina» y es la forma femenina de la palabra latina divus.

  • So beautiful with such a beautiful voice, I listen to her songs all the time - she will be missed.

  • she is talented and pretty

  • Everything in this version is stunning & the best. I can fell TT's emotion & saddness. She sings out her heart & the haunting voice is around me for hours. Whenever stress strikes, I love listening to TT's music esp this one. Billions tks for sharing ... ... ...!!!

I truly, truly enjoy it so very greatly just to say the least !!!

    From: Nagaharu Hayashi

    marching on christians

  • She is one of the best and the most magnificent Asian female vocalists whom I have been ever seen in my generation. To me , she is and always will be the greatest singer of all time. Every time I listen to her song, I miss my country.

  • @Laohaklao lol Makes me want to move there WOW

  • Beautiful lady, beautiful song, I miss her.

  • A songwriter once said Teresa's voice is 7 parts sweetness and 3 parts tears...how true. Incomparable voice! What a shame that she passed away at a relatively young age.

  • Yes, I remember that well. He wrote a number of her songs but most importantly, this great songwriter landed her the title song in the first TV series ever made in Taiwan. 晶晶。

佐宏元 also used another pen name, 壮奴。

  • Amazing linguistic ability considering her age.

  • unique voice, unreplaceable. thousand thanks for sharing

  • Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

Jav

  • Mesmerizing, intoxicating, impeccable, haunting, angelic ... all these words even couldn't well describe Teresa's music. She is the goddess, the world's singer!!!

  • This is my number one favorite from Teresa (although I love many of her songs) She is irreplaceable. There will never be another like her. She has this niche all to herself.

  • The way she sang the song always relax, cool, beautiful colourful performances & amazing soft voice. She is No.1 singer & no replaceable. She died early. What's a pity !!! People around the world miss her sweet beautiful voice.

  • Thank you, Mr 61amuri! Thank you!

  • Hi canaanoptical. Thanks for sharing this music. Unless there's already one in youtube, I'll try to find time to upload TT's version in Indonesian in respond to this nice upload of yours.

  • Her voice is always touching my heart .. it's lovely and so beautiful.

  • "Always quietly (waiting) for your return, There's a sweet lady awaiting. From the window of the jet misted up by the rain, Restraining my tears, I say good-bye. Please go back to her side,I am leaving for a faraway town. Though no one loves you more than I do, Breaking up is for the good of both of us. Please return to her side,I'm going away all by myself"

Sounds like she's urging him to go back to his wife and the singer of this song is leaving sacrificially for good

  • Yes, but again she has a real fighting edge: she is pretty, young and "naive"...all these were regarded in Japan as highly valuable assets. I am not sure that her rival is his wife, it looks more to me that her rival may be a previous lover of him with still a lot of influence to control his life.

  • Perhaps you should contact the lyricist and clarify with him/her?

  • Canaanoptical: Absolutely unnecessary. This issue is of much importance to me as it might have been for Li Jun herself. The only one difference is in time: she was 21 y.o. when became famous with this song. For me, it was 20 years ago I took my decision.

  • She is going away to let him realize what is all of her love about. Usually the one leaving is going back to a former lover, in this case...she is leaving him.

  • That's an interesting observation. I always thought she was making a sacrifice by going away and giving this man back to his wife.

  • May be what you noticed...but, the wording is more intended to fight back by making him wonder. No matter what it looks, she still feels she and him are a better match. Regardless, songs like "aijin" are in contradiction with my interpretation. I used to live in Japan, and a person (who eventually became my wife) sung this one...she was not giving up anything easily.

  • Thanks for the English translation and at least I understand the contents. I love this song very much and used to listen repeatedly.

  • You are most welcome! Me, too. I was able to sing the whole song from memory before I found out the meaning of the lyrics.

  • She was so beautiful with such a beautiful voice and so talented.

  • Thank you for sharing this video with the rest of us!

  • my mom loves her

  • Yeah! Everybody's mom does! :-))

  • Strangely it says 1985 in the video itself...

  • Yes, you are right. The award was in 1974. She presented the song on TV in 1985 during a special programme. In 1974, accepting the award, she still had some baby fat on her. She was so overcome, she cried and missed singing part of the song. You can see that in my other channel, irisesinthesun

  • Jesus, listening to this song always hurts

  • Yes, it's a very sad song.

  • Damn! I'm crying!

  • Yeah, you are not the only one, trust me! Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for the translation. Thank you for sharing this lovely video of TT. She's so pretty and sang so tremendously well.

  • Thank you for sharing. I have another channel that will feature her 1984 Taipei World Tour Concert. I am uploading the whole concert intact in parts.. and subtitling each conversation, remark, interview and song. Hope you will like it. It is the TTLiveConcert channel.

    Regards,

    Jeremy

  • Her live sounds like from CD. Not many singer can do that nowadays. I hope there are more good singer like her.

  • Yes, indeed, in live performances, she sounds as good as in her studio recordings. Even without music backing, she sings beautifully! She is indeed a rare and unique woman.

  • I totally agree with you. We have a lot of singer in US nowadays who lip sing in live concert bcause they just have to. Not TT. I love the clip she sang "when will u'll b back (return)" :an old chinese song without music backup live in Japan. She is irreplaceable #1 singer in my heart.

  • she has such a great voice...

i think no female chinese singer can beat her....

  • How can we forget you?

  • No, we can't. Certainly not me, I grew up seeing her on TV, her photos in newspapers and magazines and hearing her voice everyday! She was part of my life.

  • Thank for posting this video. I listen to TT

sing like a million time, but never get tired of it. Did anyone know the meaning of this song, can some translate the lyric into English? Thank you so much.

  • i don't understand what she said

but i love the song :(

  • If you look at the right-hand side of the web page, you see "more info." Click on it and you will see the translation! :-))

  • My favourite song. Listen to it again and again. Thank for posting.

  • Thank you for sharing! God bless you!

  • just.. just awesome

  • Beautiful song, very good audio and video. Well done!!

  • Teresa Teng has true vocal skill...

Now a days it's all just screaming...

    The radio sickens me...

  • Thank u for watching and sharing your thoughts.

  • words fail to describe her voice, looks and spirit. RIP, TT

  • How did she died? and how was she when she died?

  • She died of a severe asthma attack while vacationing in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She was given a state funeral after her remains were repatriated back to Taiwan with the ROC flag draped over her coffin.

  • @jkbox She was covered with The Roc flag because she unknowingly conquered the whole China with her song in early 80's. Her younger brother said in recent interview that They learned she was so famous in China after hearing CNN report while she was in USA. I guess after the report, she was welcome back to Taiwan,Japan.

  • Its been so long i don't hear this song, its so sad,is such a memory ,if you guys can post in chinese song pls

  • Yes, of course. Give me a couple of days. I'm getting ready to go to church now so I'll do it when I have time. :-)

  • thanks friend

  • Truly amazing, thank you!

  • Wonderful song, so moving :). And she has a great emotional voice.

  • theres one like this but she look younger..

same song and she was crying..so sad too..

  • If I am not mistaken, the other one, she was crying because she received the top award for 3 consecutive years, a feat which no other singer was able to achieve. She started singing at 10, went to Japan at 20 and died at 42. In many video clips even of the same song, she would be very different in age. Thank you for sharing.

  • The one that she was younger and crying, was when she won the first prize in 1974 with this song Airport, she was in her early 20's and was in Japan just few months, polishing her singing style. She was overwhelm because it was a huge surprise to win that prize. That was a truly recognition of a star sparkling over all Asia....I feel so good to see her so young and beautiful at that age to win that prize in japan.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • canaanoptical, thks you also for upload TT songs to keep her memory for ever.

  • A very beautiful song for an extraordinary singer! She looks sad in this video when she sings... Her love life is somehow reflected in this song...

  • She started singing at 10. At the time of this song, she was 21. For many, life has just started. For her........!!!??? Sorry, I don't mean to sound depressed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  • 空港 Kuko (The Airport) 1974

Words: Michio Yamagami . Music: Kosho Inomata

[The end part of the female announcer's introduction]

And coming to Japan in 1974 at age 21, she received the New Singer Award in The Japan Record Awards of that year. Now, please listen to "The Airport" that led the name Teresa Teng, the diva of Asia, to become well known throughout Japan.

  • Dear Eric33yt,

Thank you very much. This means so much to me. As a matter of fact, this is the only Japanese song I can sing from memory, not knowing the meaning of the song. Now, I do and I can correct the mistakes in my pronunciation. Thanks again!
