This live performance early doors in Derby shows just how fantastic this band were live...and why so many promoters are desperate to get them to reform for a tour!
@UnderTheAffluence Yes I do. I wonder why from that small island (only in size,ok?) have emerged TheSmiths,TheBeatles,TheRollingStones,Queen,PinkFloyd,RadioHead,LedZeppelin,TheCure,ThePolice,SexPistols,Clash,JoyDivision,NewOrder..... ETC,ETC,ETC. = 90% the bands I listen/like. At least it is statistically interesting (can I say that?) So, WHY THE BEST BANDS ARE FROM THERE?
@aupathletic27 Well I'm from England and will be studying Popular Music at Goldsmiths University in London this September, so I should be able to give across a fair opinion. English people are NEVER HAPPY. The majority of the bands you mentioned came from drab backgrounds and searched for escape. Sting from The Police was a school teacher before a pop star. Morrissey was bound in his Manchester bedroom surrounded by James Dean posters reading Oscar Wilde and Sheilagh Delaney...
@aupathletic27 --well many uk bands have irish blood , or connections , i have irish blood also and like so many bands ( the doors, the beatles, sex pistols, the smiths, etcetc) not only that, its easier to write about the truth in a darker way if you live in this shit culture ....manchester for example has a terrible climate ( weather) making music is just one way of escaping poverty and depression in the uk....just like football is in brazil.
@aupathletic27 Even when bands reach the pinnacle of fame they are not happy. Look at Pete Doherty or Keith Richards. I am similar in that I have lived in the lifeless town of Taunton for several years. I write poetry and music to seek escape. I also refuse to accept that I am at all talented, though I do recognise I am different. I am a huge perfectionist, and can be a bastard when it comes to music. I also have Ireland in my blood like Morrissey and Johnny Marr, which may be a factor.
@aupathletic27 Being British is not glamorous. It is not poetic. It is not affluent. It is simply existence. Art for art's sake. It is in our blood and the only country which really compete are America, though they lack our slate-grey skies. I hope that ONE DAY I shall reach the passion's horizon. The horizon I so tenderly march towards. Take care and be proud of who you are. Oh, and move to England. But not when the Conservatives are in power.
Morrissey practices celibacy. Someone may be gay, straigh,t bi ,etc.,and practice this, but he does not define himself in such terms. He embodies a true original sexuality that keeps us all intrigued and mystified.

if morrissey was born in derby he would of committed suicide instead of writting truly outstanding lyrics. thanks for adding the derby vids, its my hometown
The Smiths delivery is so amusing and brilliant at the same time. Fantastic music with a blend of sublime lyrics delivered in such an entertaining fashion. Definately the best band to come out of Manchester and arguably the UK (and therefore the world).
:58 johnny marr is wearing toms. he's pioneered everything from his style of guitar playing to shoes!

If you visit New England you will see those same slate gray skies and dreary weather.

@solwolfpunk Nowhere in the world possesses the same slate-grey skies England does. Lucky them...

The lyrics are wonderful. The Smiths are very underrated. Moz and Marr are THE GREATEST writing team, ever.
