  • Superb review and a great plan! Make it happen!!

  • I actually turned to page 161 in "the bible" as I watched.

    Audience interaction!

  • Hey Ray, Love the idea very awesome... Food for thot tho... instead of removing the wheel panel on his legs, why not put the pin out and flip it so the wheels face in the opposite direction... which would make the wheel into "hover turbines" to match the chest wheel/turbines... it's super simple to do...shoot me a message if you;d like help.. Later days.. BTW enjoyed this video very much keep up the nice work!! Cheers

  • Looking forward to seeing the finished results, Ray. And you combined this with a G1 review, always good! Great vid!

  • I wasn't sure about this one when you first mentioned it but having seen them both together it could work really well! :)

  • The mini figure you were talking about comes with stratosphere

  • you could maybe get a headrobots custom head and take out OpOp's head so that it'll make him a headmaster

  • Great video. I am looking forward to seeing the finished results. I sadly cannot you any advice on repaints because quite frankly, the repaints I have done in the past are a bit shit.

  • Damn, Ray, I can't wait to see how that Op Op looks repainted as Apeface, that thing'll be freakin' gorgeous.

  • Apeface is very cool! i just need his head! awesome review man!

  • quite the undertaking!

make sure you do a build video. and USE PRIMER!!!!

  • To put it in Games Workshop colors: Chaos Black, Bone White, Liche Purple and Warlock Purple.

  • @Eucep

    oh, that helps!

    thanks. i'll check those out

    ray

  • Ah the good old G1 head masters and their fail clips . Sweet review and I would love to see that custom. I think it would beast. Keep up the awesome. :)

  • love apeface, one of the best ever. This is an ambitious but exciting project, you are a crossing a line into a deeper realm of nerdom here :)

I think one of the things I love about older and cybertronion bots is that ability to make your own modes, to be a little creative and use some imagination. A car is a car, a horse is a horse, but a cybertron attack thing can be just about whatever you like. I miss that sort of bot.

  • I tend to straiten the ape legs to go back behind him, to have the feet hold the kibble in robot mode. just a thought.

  • Ray, try and get some 3M modelers putty, this way you can fill in any gaps, like on his arms and sand them smooth :)

  • @darthdevious

    i'll look out for that

    thanks

  • So, here's the thinker.... As you mentioned, due to Primal's transformation, colors won't exactly match between each mode, for your Apeface incarnation. Which paint scheme will you base it more on? Ape-mode? Or bot-mode?

  • Comparable to today's transformers, what size class would Apeface and Snapdragon be?

  • I say go for it! I would love to see how it works out.

  • Oh man, are we going to get a Snapdragon review too?

Snapdragon just looks and works fantastically.

  • So are you going to disassemble OpOp to paint him?

  • @TheArrJames also, you could take some epoxy and fill in Optimus' mouth shield to make it closer to Apeface's, I think.

  • @TheArrJames

    dunno!

i may never get him back together again!

  • Apeface - a true example of what is best in G1. Not necessarily due to the fact that he is coherent (because he isn't) or entirely successful (because he isn't!) but owing to the sheer inspiration fuelled into this toy's creation. I think this is a significant problem with the movie line, where every Tuesday it's like: 'Hey, another Bumblebee? I dun' know. Ideas are hard.'

Triple changing decepticon headmaster? Idea par excellence. Looking forward to your custom Ray.

  • This is going to be sexy... I used to have an optimal optimus... it was stolen when i was maybe 12. I cried for about 3 hours.

  • I crave this creature!

  • awsome possum and did u get my pm?

  • if you plan on making the masterpiece that will be Ape Face custom would be glorious

  • What about replacing the head with one of the Junkion Blacksmith heads? You'd loose the light piping but you'd gain a triple changing head.

  • Do show us when he's done please.

I like the flying mode, he looks like some sort of vtol cargo ship, though keeping the blast shields would chunk out his arms a bit and help sell the vehicle mode. And its a chance to give depth, paint the shields one colour and the inner arms another. Could you take out the springs and glue them in place?

Could you keep the flaps with the wheels on to look like more vtol turbines, and somehow switch the tires onto the other side?

  • @Orniphus

    oooh!

    yes yes yes i could!

    good call!

  • How about the reverse? Taking G1 Apeface and repainting him as a Universe/Generations Optimal Optimus? Or even a "shattered glass" Optimal Optimus? I mean, it would be an excuse to bring back such a great mold as a new figure, even if the headmaster had to be labeled as a "minicon partner". Also, as great as triple changer headmasters are/were, just imagine a triple-changing targetmaster, where the bot would have 3 modes, and his partner/gun could be utilized in all 3. How cool would that be?

  • I'm curious to see what the results will be. Oh wow, that rhymed

  • going to look great Ray, with the different lower torso idea between beast and bot mode you'll have at least half the colour matching problems. the arms being the arms though will be bothersome ... the only suggestion I can think of is to utilize the thumb swap part of the transformation and paint the hands both the creme grey and the purple. 2 fingers each depending on which set is facing the thumb in each mode. or perhaps the middle 2 purple, and employ the forearm molding as a colour guide

  • @destrond69 leaving the 'organic' black fur black to represent the black ape mode forearms of the g1 toy and painting the 'metal' grey remainder of the arm the creme grey of Apeface's robot forearms. Looking forward to seeing this when its done.

  • @destrond69

    like it!

  • well at least they both have visible fist syndrome also that jet config reminds me or the landing ship from aliens

  • did you see the digi-paint i did of this?

Redux is a post-positive adjective meaning "brought back, restored" (from Latin reducere, "to bring back")

  • stratosphere is the one you're thinking of, cant wait to see you pull this off btw. that chrome will be a pain to get off i would think. great review as always
