  • Ernie Harwell was a wonderful person, a class act and a gentleman. (unlike some people who post rude comments about people who are dead - unbelievable!!)

    Thank you Ernie and RIP!

  • @StiffyBoy56

You are one ignorant piece of shit. Get a life you fucking troll. Detroit will always be the City of Champions, not only because of our sport teams, but because of the great people that work and live in this great city. We are blue collar, our people come into work day in and day out, and break their backs to earn an honest living.

  • @ajstachura Yeah, I heard your City of Champions just got named most dangerous city in America. Congrats, asshole!! Your teams suck ass, your announcers suck ass, your mayor is a crook, your entire metro area smells like a toilet and is the trashiest city in America other than NY. Fuck off Bozo, you're obviously blind AND stupid!

  • @StiffyBoy56

Your ignorance knows no bounds, sweetheart. I actually feel sorry for you. Obviously, you have no idea what goes on here, your comments are dated and prejudiced. If you feel the need to argue, please update yourself.

  • @StiffyBoy56 and you are an ignorant jerk to be so rude.

  • @auntbecky Blow me Becky!

  • @StiffyBoy56 keep hiding behind the internet you moronic piece of crap

  • @TUdaToken Awwwwwww! Did I hurt your wittle feelings?

  • I think it sucks Mitch Albom is making a play about Ernie.. Mitch is pussy.

  • They just dont make em like Ernie Harwell and Vin Skully anymore

  • Ernie! Forever Our Tiger! His voice will always be in my head and heart!

  • I can't stop crying.......

  • One of the greatest announcers in all of sports. Even with him gone, the Tigers will roar forever! Thanks Ernie!

  • I Love Ernie Harwell!

  • Ernie Harwell was a TOTAL class act as a broadcaster and a person. His voice reminds me of my childhood, listening to Tigers' games on the back deck or in the back yard in the summer time. Thank you, Mr. Harwell. RIP.

  • Ernie was wrong when he said that he might have been a small part of our lives. He was a huge part of my life. He probably had no idea how much he was loved and how much he meant to millions of Tigers fan across Michigan. The voice of my youth. I still miss him.

  • the voice of my youth! god i miss u ernie. grew up listining to this man . glad both my boys got to at least hear his voice. best radio voice ever

  • "But I think Goodbye's are sad and I'd much rather say hello.... hello to a new adventure."

  • it may just be me but i think he sounds a lot like KU's Bob Davis.

  • @DCMan06 no offense but I would say Bob Davis sounds like Ernie Harwell

  • I grew up in Kansas City so I'm a Royals fan by heart (I know...get your jokes in.) But I loved listening to Ernie Harwell broadcast Tigers games. The best way I can explain it is that when I hear his voice, I imagine the game in black and white. He had a beautiful broadcaster's voice.

His words from 1:19 to 1:24 can now be phrased like this:

"I'm not leaving, folks, I'll still be with you. I'll be in the great ballpark in the sky surrounded by family and friends."

  • Thank you, Ernie, for transporting me from Rochester to the corner of Michigan and Trumbull in 1968 with a simple transistor radio. Your voice was magic. You made the games magic. I'm 56 now but I remember it like yesterday. RIP, Mr. Harwell.

  • This is awesome!!

  • Got to meet him in person once, a true gentleman. It was at a book signing and we were all waiting in line for him to show up. He walks in and he says "hi everybody" and that VOICE...radiated sincerity. He took time to talk a bit with everyone too. The voice of the radio...yes sneaking the "transister radio" to listen to a west coast game or being stopped at a light and everyone had the same station on listening to him. Ernie and George Kell too.

  • Ernie Harwell. One of my best memories. I can smell lemonade. I can hear the screendoor crash closed. I can also smell cucumbers. But the best is listening to Ernie Harwell on the radio sitting on the kitchen table with my Grandpa.

  • @yooperheart1 Nicely said yooperheart. Too many good memories and just not enough space to say thank you to Ernie.

  • @surf7lakemich1 I agree with you soooo much. I try and try to force myself to remember the good and sure glad Ernie helps me:)

  • Class act, all the way!

  • I don't think there will be none greater.

  • A beautiful, beautiful man. And a big part of my childhood.

  • That was one of the great memories of growing up in Detroit and rooting for the Tigers!! My favorite Ernie Harwell catch phrase is "He Stood There Like The House by the side of the road!!" Ernie You will be missed!!!

  • @ryanfolwell search this here youtube for "WAKE Long Gone" for my Ernie Harwell song .. " . .Now he's standing like the house by the side of the road (in the sky) .. "

  • For, lo, the winter is past,

    The rain is over and gone;

    The flowers appear on the earth;

The time of the singing of birds is come,

And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land. Ernie Hrwell... Nobody could call a baseball game like him. And now may you rest in the presence of your savior.

  • Thanks for being the Voice of My childhood.... Long gones, Houses by the side of the road, 2 for price of 1, and balls being caught by someone from all those little towns.... You were a large part of my life Ernie....Can't wait to hear all about the great baseball games you will be able to watch in Heaven. Say hi to my grandpa.....

  • Harry Kalas last year, Ernie Harwell this year, baseball has lost another true legend. One of the great voices of baseball. Its a sad time.

  • Damn, lost my grandmother, who was a lifelong Tiger fan, last November at the age of 98, & now the voice that came through the radio during those many summers up north at grandma's has passed on also. A huge part of not just mine but thousands of Michiganders lives has come to a close. You will be missed Mr. Harwell & say hello to my grandparents for me.,R.I.P.
