I was a teen and on the guest list at the Stark Club. I was hot back then so I guess that's all it took to get in for me. All my high school friends were sneaking booze at their parents house and I was jammin' at the Stark Club.
People would climb up on the Starck logo downstairs on the dance floor to dance, and others would actually climb up on the metal fencing surrounding the dance floor, 2 STORIES UP IN THE AIR, and hang there, shaking their bodies. And don't forget the gauze-curtained columns upstairs.... for private moments!
Val did move to LA. If you remember, we had two fundraisers for her on Saturday nights, where the door ticket sales went to her moving fund. 1989 I think.
I need to see Robocop again. The movie was shot in Dallas but was referred to as Detroit :( There is a brief scene where Robocop goes to the Starck Club to arrest someone. You would have loved that place. Grace Jones and Stevie Nicks were part owners. You know it had to be a drug den with those two ;)
Oh, those were the days. Was a Starck goer from 84-88 then it went downhill. Actually the best of times were the first two years. The posers and suburbanites killed the club. I guess the 86 X raid really put the nail in the coffin. I had just left the club a few minutes before the big raid. It wasn't the same since.
the real club kids opened the place...then all the suburbanites came in...sad. After '85 it just started getting messy. Val, Glo, TimC, TimA, Vicky, Scott, Phil....where are you now?
I remember Stark as it was and miss it. I also barely remember anything else from that time in my life. Probably for the best.

starck became area-51 in the early 2000s
was pretty big and was also big on ecstasy. had a few good parties there but overall sucked. must have been great in the 80s.
