great vid, i tried doing the "release" practice in the garden with one hand, on my first try i took out a giant divot, my mum wasn't best pleased, great vid though, i cant wait to try and hit a proper golf ball
Wow thanks soooo much. I just went out and practiced for about an hour and it was all in my swing plane. i was hitting it straight almost every time...THANKS SO MUCH!
It looked very poor to start with, but I persisted with it, and it turned out to be a VERY clear, helpful little clip. Kind of confirming stuff I knew, but still worthwhile.
Good tips, clear explanations - one of the best instructional video's I've seen lately! I'll be trying the "three balls" method to tame my outside-in swing next time I'm on the range...
Great vid! The only thing that has corrected my slice was actually opening the face of the driver but this is obviously to compensate for bringing the club down across my swing plane.Thanks hapes for putting this up.Unfortunately I have learnt how to play quite well using my open clubface technique so im sure to go back a couple of steps before swinging the right way starts working for me.Such is golf huh!
I regularly come back to your video,when I feel I start lacking the fundamentals,out on the course.For some reason,the linolium background really helps to illustrate what you are talking about and you also keep it really simple.
great vid. i can normally work out whats going wrong with my swing, and correct it. but lately i can't get rid of my slice, I think i have a weak grip, i never thought of that. Can't wait to get out and try out your tips.
I definately benefited from this video - thanks. It helped me to understand my grip - and my slice has dropped significantly with just a little practice.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
alrite first off, having your "strong grip" allows your club to open the second you take it back. also, you told everyone to open your club on your backswing "for full rotation" another reason your club wud be open at impact. get a lesson buddy
wow great vid.!!!! i gave it 5***** stars. I, personally think that my swing plane is what is wrong with my swing, causing a slice, and today iwent to the driving range and i tried the 3-ball strategy and i was actually coming from the outside to the inside...after a couuple of minutes, i was finally not hitting that top ball and the results were great!!!
Waching this video, and following he advice given helped me identify what I was doing wrong, and fixed my slice. I went to the driving range once, then played on a course a week later for the 2nd time in my life, and the people I went with who are good golfers said they couldn't believe how well I was hitting off the T. Straight, and far.. Thanks a million, and keep them coming..
This is an excellent video and very well presented, every player can take a little of what is offered here and apply it to the swing, other than the slice great tips on the grip (I know your grip is OK is it?) the take away (But my takeaway is OK is it?)Simply explained and understood one for my favorites I think.
great job on all the props i think my swing path is what is wrong with my slice... i've been trying to fix it so hopefully this will help tomorrow... i already make great contact with the ball but everytime i slice it and its worse with my driver... so if u can make one with the driver i would appreciate it.. thanx for the great vids
This video already shows you where the ball placement is for a driver. The concepts are exactly the same with every club whether you're using a sand wedge or a driver
There are a number of reasons unfortunately. You'll have to get to know your swing better so you can identify which one it is;
The ball is to far forward in your stance; your weight is staying on your back foot instead of transferring to your front foot through impact (In this scenario in many cases, your head may be moving laterally left to right on the back swing and on the downswing, your weight and head stay to the right);
your back shoulder is dropping through impact; your posture is changing through impact; your stooping over too far at address and need to stand more upright; you have too much angle in the top of your left wrist at address (assuming your right handed) and need to straighten your wrist out more (make the top of your left wrist flat, then just bend it slightly
I have some good video on my blog covering that. Go to AGameGolfInstructiondotcom and click on video and then fat/thin shots and also posture and also weight transfer
Thanks. The article on Fat shots really helped. I believe I was droping my back shoulder. I think my left arm was bending as well on the down swing. Would that cause me to hit the ball Fat?
That would cause you to lose power but not hit it fat. When you set up to the ball at address correctly, you are a certain distance from the ball and as long as you do nothing to decrease that distance during the swing, you won't be able to hit it fat. If you increase the distance, you'll top it.
wWuld slicing also be caused by a shaft that is to flexible?I have tried changing my grip and I still slice. Could it be that i need a stiff shaft rather than a regular. Thanks
Most people draw or hook with a shaft that is too flexible, however it could be possible depending on when you load the shaft prior to impact. Go somewhere that custom fits clubs to measure your swing speed and see what stiffness they recommend.
I accidently deleted the last comment. You asked about what to do if you're a lefty. Everything is exactly the same in reverse. Make your right arm do what my left arm is doing in the video and make your left arm do what my right arm is doing in the video.
Just a quick thought. If a golf shaft is too stiff for a golfers ability, that can contribute to hitting a slice or a fade. Try hitting a driver with a less stiff shaft like a regular shaft and see how well you hit it.
This is byfar the best video I've found that allows me to better understand how to work on treating my slice. Thank you so much! Before when I used steel shafted irons, I never had a problem with slicing. However, I recently switched to regular flex graphite shafts and been seeing a 15-25 yard slice. Assuming nothing else has changed, can you help me explain this? Perhaps I need a stiffer flex?
That's definitely a possibility. You need a flex that matches your swing speed but you don't want to be too stiff or you lose distance. Just for fun, go somewhere that builds clubs or sells clubs that can measure your swing speed and see what shaft stiffness they recommend.
i am having problems slicing my driver. most of my drives are solidly hit, but will tend to fade after it reaches it's highest trajectory. my swing speed is in the low 90s. my shaft is a 60g Fujikura with a low kick. would i benefit from a heavier shaft with a higher kick? the loft is 9.5.
When it comes to getting fitted properly with equipment, you need to go to an equipment supplier that has the high tech ability to watch your swing and determine if the club is maximized for you so that you get the right loft, kick point, torque, flex and swing weight. Many places are starting to have the ability to monitor your swing and tell you what fits best.
Here's a drill you could try to see if it straightens out your shot. Setup to hit a drive with your shoulders and hips parallel to your target line. Drop your right foot back ("NOT" wider) about 12 inches (closed stance). The line along your toes now points to the right of the target.
On your backswing, take the club back along your target line. On the down swing, swing on the inside out parallel to the line along your toes. This swing promotes a draw and a longer drive. Change how far you drop your right back back to alter the amount of draw.
My experience has been that anytime you change your grip, it feels abnormal and can take some time to adjust to it. Use the new grip and hit balls into a hitting net or at the driving range. The more you hit, the more quickly the new grip will feel natural to you. There will probably come a point in your transition where the new grip doesn't feel natural and the old grip won't feel good either. You'll be about half way there. Don't give up.
Everything you'd do as a left hander would be like looking in the mirror (Reversed) If the thumb of your right hand were on top of the clubshaft, you'd rotate your thumb toward your left side.

Get a 30 minute lesson from a pga pro at a course so they can teach you the fundamentals of how to correct your swing.

You are more than likely disconected. Try keeping your hands closer to your body. If the hands are moving away from your body you will slice.
