  • just tried the strong grip and it is a lot harder to release the ball but much better than hitting out of bounds. thanks a lot, great vid

  • you gave me a few ideas... many thanks

  • absolutely great advice

  • great vid, i tried doing the "release" practice in the garden with one hand, on my first try i took out a giant divot, my mum wasn't best pleased, great vid though, i cant wait to try and hit a proper golf ball

  • fixing the swing plane worked for me...i just went up practining and i was hitting it straight almost every time..THANKS SO MUCH!!!

  • Wow thanks soooo much. I just went out and practiced for about an hour and it was all in my swing plane. i was hitting it straight almost every time...THANKS SO MUCH!

  • Excellent tips, quite easy to understand the fundamentals because of the uncluttered way you've explained them, you're actually quite a good coach!

  • This vid surprised me.

It looked very poor to start with, but I persisted with it, and it turned out to be a VERY clear, helpful little clip. Kind of confirming stuff I knew, but still worthwhile.

    Thanks

  • Good video the clearly shows the basics behind proper technique...

  • Good tips, clear explanations - one of the best instructional video's I've seen lately! I'll be trying the "three balls" method to tame my outside-in swing next time I'm on the range...

  • I think this will help. Also, I went to a baseball grip from a overlapping one and somehow it worked too.

  • if this helps i will give 5 stars because i wont get to a golf course for a week

  • Awesome video!!!

I watched this video, then changed my grip to a "stronger grip" immediately cured my slice and added roughly 30 yards average to my drive

  • Great vid! The only thing that has corrected my slice was actually opening the face of the driver but this is obviously to compensate for bringing the club down across my swing plane. Thanks hapes for putting this up.Unfortunately I have learnt how to play quite well using my open clubface technique so im sure to go back a couple of steps before swinging the right way starts working for me.Such is golf huh!

  • Snuff Box!!! My Wifes Excited!

  • Great video!! Helped me so much! Thanks.

  • Excellent advice and very clear examples. Thanks so much!!

  • Thanks!! very good video!

  • I have watched about 50 help videos on slicing the ball, this was the one that finally helped me drive the ball straight!!!

    Thank you!!!!

  • rotate forearms not hands yes?

  • Can you be more specific with the question?

  • What a great camera angle.

  • Excellent Video.

I have been trawling though Youtube looking for some tips, and yours had it all in one.

    Execellent job!

  • great video!

  • Great camera angles and great ideas on how to ilustrate the drills, congratulations¡¡

  • I regularly come back to your video, when I feel I start lacking the fundamentals, out on the course. For some reason, the linolium background really helps to illustrate what you are talking about and you also keep it really simple.

  • great vid. i can normally work out whats going wrong with my swing, and correct it. but lately i can't get rid of my slice, I think i have a weak grip, i never thought of that. Can't wait to get out and try out your tips.

  • good tips

  • Thanks for your vids bro. I still suck, but will get better

  • Quality tips.....but doesnt the guy look like Hermann Munster???

  • Really good stuff man! keep it coming!

  • Thanks. Great stuff.

  • Very Nice Video. Learned Quite A Bit!!

  • Thanks for the tips!

  • Great video, I use to hit my drive so straight now I slice every time and it's killing me, thanks for the tips.

  • You've got a real talent for teaching.

This is the best short instruction video I have ever seen. Well done, and keep up the good work.

  • I have switched my swing plane to inside to outside but still have a even more wicked slice. Any cures on this???

  • Get a 30 minute lesson from a pga pro at a course so they can teach you the fundamentals of how to correct your swing.

  • You are more than likely disconected. Try keeping your hands closer to your body. If the hands are moving away from your body you will slice.

  • I just wanted to say thanks, I fixed my slice and i am consistently hitting alot better now.

    thanks,

    doug

  • This video cured my slice. Now I know what I have been doing wrong, coming back too far inside on my backswing.

    Thanks !

  • I definately benefited from this video - thanks. It helped me to understand my grip - and my slice has dropped significantly with just a little practice.

  • wow great vid.!!!! i gave it 5***** stars. I, personally think that my swing plane is what is wrong with my swing, causing a slice, and today iwent to the driving range and i tried the 3-ball strategy and i was actually coming from the outside to the inside...after a couuple of minutes, i was finally not hitting that top ball and the results were great!!!

    Thanks a lot!!!

  • Waching this video, and following he advice given helped me identify what I was doing wrong, and fixed my slice. I went to the driving range once, then played on a course a week later for the 2nd time in my life, and the people I went with who are good golfers said they couldn't believe how well I was hitting off the T. Straight, and far.. Thanks a million, and keep them coming..

  • This is an excellent video and very well presented, every player can take a little of what is offered here and apply it to the swing, other than the slice great tips on the grip (I know your grip is OK is it?) the take away (But my takeaway is OK is it?)Simply explained and understood one for my favorites I think.

    Thank you

  • great job on all the props i think my swing path is what is wrong with my slice... i've been trying to fix it so hopefully this will help tomorrow... i already make great contact with the ball but everytime i slice it and its worse with my driver... so if u can make one with the driver i would appreciate it.. thanx for the great vids

  • This video already shows you where the ball placement is for a driver. The concepts are exactly the same with every club whether you're using a sand wedge or a driver

  • thanks! your advice on swing path is exactly what is wrong with my fades and slices... (one in my videos)

  • good stuff u know ur stuff.Thanks

  • thanks for the tips

  • These were some good tips. Thanks!

  • Thanks for this :)

  • I rend to take a large divit behind the ball. What causses this? Could I not be fully rotating my body on my downswing?

    Thanks

  • There are a number of reasons unfortunately. You'll have to get to know your swing better so you can identify which one it is;

    The ball is to far forward in your stance; your weight is staying on your back foot instead of transferring to your front foot through impact (In this scenario in many cases, your head may be moving laterally left to right on the back swing and on the downswing, your weight and head stay to the right);

  • your back shoulder is dropping through impact; your posture is changing through impact; your stooping over too far at address and need to stand more upright; you have too much angle in the top of your left wrist at address (assuming your right handed) and need to straighten your wrist out more (make the top of your left wrist flat, then just bend it slightly

  • I have some good video on my blog covering that. Go to AGameGolfInstructiondotcom and click on video and then fat/thin shots and also posture and also weight transfer

  • Thanks. The article on Fat shots really helped. I believe I was droping my back shoulder. I think my left arm was bending as well on the down swing. Would that cause me to hit the ball Fat?

  • That would cause you to lose power but not hit it fat. When you set up to the ball at address correctly, you are a certain distance from the ball and as long as you do nothing to decrease that distance during the swing, you won't be able to hit it fat. If you increase the distance, you'll top it.

  • Standing more upright and letting my arms start the downswing sure has helped alot!! Thanks

  • thanks:D much apreciated

  • wWuld slicing also be caused by a shaft that is to flexible?I have tried changing my grip and I still slice. Could it be that i need a stiff shaft rather than a regular. Thanks

  • Most people draw or hook with a shaft that is too flexible, however it could be possible depending on when you load the shaft prior to impact. Go somewhere that custom fits clubs to measure your swing speed and see what stiffness they recommend.

  • thanks for the help

  • I accidently deleted the last comment. You asked about what to do if you're a lefty. Everything is exactly the same in reverse. Make your right arm do what my left arm is doing in the video and make your left arm do what my right arm is doing in the video.

  • Best slicing-cure video on Youtube. Thanks a ton! You just shaved off about 10 strokes off my score! :)

  • awesome but does it work the same with a driver?

  • Yes

  • Excellent instruction!

  • great video!

  • Nice tips...thanks

  • they said stiff and thats the flex a have

have any drills to help me cure it

  • Just a quick thought. If a golf shaft is too stiff for a golfers ability, that can contribute to hitting a slice or a fade. Try hitting a driver with a less stiff shaft like a regular shaft and see how well you hit it.

  • nice video, thanks

  • what if you are coming inside to inside through impact i still cut acroos for a slice. any tips or drilss i could do??

  • Are you sure you hit inside to inside? I've never heard of anyone being able to do that.

  • ther called good players

  • This is byfar the best video I've found that allows me to better understand how to work on treating my slice. Thank you so much! Before when I used steel shafted irons, I never had a problem with slicing. However, I recently switched to regular flex graphite shafts and been seeing a 15-25 yard slice. Assuming nothing else has changed, can you help me explain this? Perhaps I need a stiffer flex?

  • That's definitely a possibility. You need a flex that matches your swing speed but you don't want to be too stiff or you lose distance. Just for fun, go somewhere that builds clubs or sells clubs that can measure your swing speed and see what shaft stiffness they recommend.

  • i am having problems slicing my driver. most of my drives are solidly hit, but will tend to fade after it reaches it's highest trajectory. my swing speed is in the low 90s. my shaft is a 60g Fujikura with a low kick. would i benefit from a heavier shaft with a higher kick? the loft is 9.5.

  • When it comes to getting fitted properly with equipment, you need to go to an equipment supplier that has the high tech ability to watch your swing and determine if the club is maximized for you so that you get the right loft, kick point, torque, flex and swing weight. Many places are starting to have the ability to monitor your swing and tell you what fits best.

  • Here's a drill you could try to see if it straightens out your shot. Setup to hit a drive with your shoulders and hips parallel to your target line. Drop your right foot back ("NOT" wider) about 12 inches (closed stance). The line along your toes now points to the right of the target.

  • On your backswing, take the club back along your target line. On the down swing, swing on the inside out parallel to the line along your toes. This swing promotes a draw and a longer drive. Change how far you drop your right back back to alter the amount of draw.

  • when i do a strong grip i feel like im not holding the club as tight as my old grip . Is this normal?

  • My experience has been that anytime you change your grip, it feels abnormal and can take some time to adjust to it. Use the new grip and hit balls into a hitting net or at the driving range. The more you hit, the more quickly the new grip will feel natural to you. There will probably come a point in your transition where the new grip doesn't feel natural and the old grip won't feel good either. You'll be about half way there. Don't give up.

  • since i'm left handed which way to i move my top hand if i want to make my grip stronger

  • Everything you'd do as a left hander would be like looking in the mirror (Reversed) If the thumb of your right hand were on top of the clubshaft, you'd rotate your thumb toward your left side.
