i saved a poor painted turtle from getting ran over in the street. i let him go cause it looked like he had lived in the wild a long time. so close to having a pet
@TropicalFishLovers I have had him for about 3 weeks going on four now and it was liek that when I got him, It just looks like shedding, but I didnt know they did that? By the way, thanks for replying.
@TropicalFishLovers Yes he has both lights, and I bought him pellet food, but I usually feed him the pellets, goldfish, mealworms, crickets, and worms because i believe in feeding him for live foods cause thats what he would eat naturally.
@wildlife455 dude ya there was... there was a group of them. they were in the pond and there was one at the end if im not mistakening that for a red eared slider
i got a turtle in my pond who had all the flesh cleaned off of his eye area, a large section. he is an adult. could he have been born like this?it is all healed, but he couldnt hear well when i came right nex to him he just ate, and when i was trying to get him in my net, he didnt even swim away. if i called the nature center they would just say to toss him back and let nature decide. but im not going to throw him back if he will get caught by a predator..whhat SHOULD I DO?!?! please reply.
i found a turlte on the road 2day and i think he's a painted turtle. He's so cute, I named him Springer :DD He's pretty shy and is making sound like he's blowing bubbles, is that normal?
Wtf...My uncles turtle is 12 years old and he just put him in a kiddie pool with no filter and feeds him live fish....Thats where hes been living for 12 years straight
well one thing these are not painted turtles they are red eared sliders painted turtles are distuingished by the red and yellow markings on there shell and the skin coler of thge legs neck and head are black with yellow and red striped like markings the only way a 20 gallon is even thinkable for a turtle is if you only have one and it's relatively smalland the 20 gallon is a long yes a 55 gallon long is better but even so 4, 6"+ shell length turtles is kinda pushing the limits space wise
20 gallons is WAY to small. that size is ok if your turtle is hibernating during the winter, but if you want to keep a healthy pet during the summer, the best thing to do would be to keep them outdoors in a kiddie pool/pond. if you HAVE to keep the turtle in doors year-round, then plan on investing in at least 50 gallon tank (go bigger if you can) and have a uvb/uva lamp. you can buy all the best equipment there is, but none of it competes with the benefits of natural sunlight and fresh air.
You can get Rubbermaid stock tanks (50, 100, 150, or 300 gallons) at Tractor Supply Co. stores or farm supply stores, for about $1 per gallon, much better than aquariums or "kiddy pools", and you can make locking lids for them, too, to keep out other animals and people.
your turtle didnt need a tank nor did he needed a basking spot nor did he need a heat lamp and he didnt need a filter and he lived for 15 years yep i believe that i really do
i think that setup he showed there with the turtles would be awsome ....i meen a big piece of wood (turtle love baskin on em) and a good amount of water to swim in ........it would be awsome with 3-4 turtles in ??????
umm i think mine is the painted turtle and idk how much 2 feed him.... ii fed him a small feeder fish day and i want to know how often to feed im those cuz he dosn't like the little pellets :)
my dad works at a zoo he told me to feed about twelve pellets of reptile food during the summer. you can feed less during fall and winter because they go into hibernation.
i am thinking about getting a turtle but i want to no how long they will live. ive heard some turtles live over a hundred years and i dont want that to happen.
No, this is not all you need. Do not listen to this person.
For aquatic-semi aquatic turtles you need uva lighting plus regular heat lighting, or your turtle won't be able to digest it's food properly. You also a require filtration system and a very large space for them to inhabit on top of a whole slew of other things depending on the breed.

only sea turtles and giant tortoises and snapping turtles can live for over 100 years. most pet turtles only live for about 20 years with proper care

id say something closer to 50 but i get you're drift.

you cant be really sure id say one like these maybe 30-50 years at LEAST. my dad has a red eared slider thats like 25 years old and just fine.

Yes. They're like dogs.
Some are nice and you can pet it, some are mean and will bite if you approach it. Also, any will bite if you tease/hurt them
Just like dogs it depends on how you raise them and how much time you spend with them will give you how friendly they are.
