  • he is master of his domain

  • My best guy friend sang this song to me in science class when I was down, and then later on that day we got our parts for the play and he was Albert and I was Sad Girl, what.a cawinky-dinkk

  • I played the female lead in a community theater version back in 1980!

  • OMG IT'S GEORGE KOSTANZA!

  • I have to memorize this song for a coreography lesson at my school. Lol

  • my friends sung this to me when I was a sad

  • i had to sing this song in my show for my Talent academy and in martch i have to sing it for my broadway competion

  • what year did this come out?

  • @KazmosisTV 1995

  • My childhood Paddington Bear had a droopy yellow top hat that, when pulled, activated a music box. The song was lovely, prompting nostalgia for a cozy home. But the chiming had a slow and lonely pace, to the point of making that home seem far away and missed. Today I discovered the mournful chiming to be an iteration of "Put On A Happy Face".

  • Sad thing is now this would be considered sexual harassment and someone would call the cops on this guy!

  • @musicalmeg19 that's probably why everyones staring in the background while he's singing haha

  • George?

  • He looks sooo much better with hair...If I were him, I'd get implants

  • this must have been during the summer of george

  • I like the 1963 Ann-Margret-version of this film better.

  • does this sad girl have a name? who is she?!

  • I have to do this song for vocal awards at my school. I'm thinking of using some of the moves that he does. Definitely the slap. Lol

  • That laugh Jason did was so creepy! I love it :D

  • Jason Alexander is SO talented between this movie and singing and dancing in the Cinderella starring Brandy - he needs to do more musical theater.

  • This is so funny! i was one of the sad girls when we did this my sophomore year of high school and now im a senior!

  • Much better than the atrocious original movie from the 60s!

  • Amazing

  • Great job by George on this classic song.

  • this always cheers me up

  • 1:23 -- he was briefly possessed by Jerry Lewis.

  • What is this from

  • @Organizationn13

    The musical Bye Bye Birdie.

  • I would put on a happy face, but I seem to have misplaced it!

  • It's castanza!!!!

  • The girl is so pretty

  • Justin beiber is the new Conrad*

  • Does anyone else find Jason Alexander really gorgeously hot in this?

  • @BigBlueBox7 NO!

  • 0:55

  • @sluggersjd Yay! We don't have to hear them talk!!

  • i love this video, and im trying out for that part tomorrow for school!

  • We're using a lot of this choreography for the production of Birdie I'm in! I love the hand/knee slapping bit.

  • Well he does have beautiful hands...

  • I love Jason Alexander and he was great in this role and many many more. ....nevertheless, the Seinfeld episode about "shrinkage" always comes to mind. I've PUT ON A HAPPY FACE just thinking of it.

  • our performance comes out on friday :D our albert sounds just like this almost im so excited!!!

  • I Played Her In Camp Pocono Trail's Production In 2009!

  • oooooo... i gotta sing this song for our "broadway" show this may -_- i like the song but im nervous... i don sing in front of poeple!

  • 18 people are wearing the gloomy mask of tragedy.

  • My favorite song from the movie. I love this song.

  • when i see jason alexander singing, i think of "believe it or not goerge isnt at home please leave a message at the beep i must be out or i would pick up the phone where could i be? believe it or not im not home"

  • Where's Rosie?

  • Song for my solo dance!

  • Fabulous!

  • That girl must be bipolar if that didn't cheer her up more quickly

  • I'm going to be the sad girl in a play :D can't wait!

  • this version of the movie is so good!!!!!!!

  • "These pretzels are making me thirsty!" lol

  • 2:10 <333

  • See kids, when you don't sing out songs like this and Blue Skies; you'll end up like that short stubby bald guy. From that one show about nothing.

  • holy fuck :D

    thats the guy from seinfeld?

    OH MY GOD. :D

  • I do love it!

  • Yes this is what I'm gonna sing.

  • Reminds me of someone in the Italian Mafia...

  • Man, with that kid of talent why has Jason Alexander been playing all those loser roles?

  • @glipzik I know who knew the man could sing like that??

  • @glipzik People care about looks, height, and hair - those traits win out when defining roles on such a visual medium like movies/TV.

  • BAWLZ it's the dude from seinfeld!!

  • WAL MART!!!!

  • This is obviously Independent George.

  • He has a great voice! Good for him!

  • Very good... but Dick Van Dyke casts a long shadow.

  • what version of Bye Bye Birdie is this?

  • @littletoe16 Lol... uhmm... this is the movie version... not a play.. but the movie, lol

  • what actress plays the girl? she looks familiar

  • this is way better than the old version

  • Jason Alexander is great.

But look at the way he does some of the faces and voices during the song. Apparently Jack Black watched this and thought "That's a good idea!"

  • Holy crap.

He can do the most abysmal of manic depressives, and the most jubilant of happy people.

My respect for Mr. Alexander has risen hugely.

  • why is everyone saying this is so creepy..it's an old-fashioned song, not meant to be taken in a "weird" way.

    just enjoy the song :D

  • i've only seen this production in my school play ( i still want to watch the first and second movie adaptions :D ).. but WOW! i did NOT see Jason Alexander coming, and the role fit so nicely with him. i always associated him with seinfeld.. but wow.. ill never look at him the same way again.. :D

  • Jason Alexander... a song and dance man... I had no idea! Avenueyay is right; he fricken' nailed it!

  • I love this song and have a video of my playing it on piano. Check it out on the willbennettpiano channel.

  • I love this scene!!! XD I love the girl's voice! ADHD I kno..

  • I love this scene!!! XD

  • my theatre arts teacher told me she wants to do this play this year and want me to be the character that Jason Alexander played XD

  • @Bridgirl11 mine too!

  • @YoifyYo cool! my play has the same script as the movie!

  • we're doing this play at my middle school!

  • i didn't know he could sing! love this musical!

  • I'm just not feelin' it. I love the music, they are all pretty talented...but, the original is just so awesome that I don't think it should have been re-done!!

  • Thumbs up if you got here from Jason Alexander's Twitter :)

  • Talented young man with a nice head of hair...and the boy can sing! Nice Alexander, very nice.

  • Music teacher told me and another guy @ my school 2 look it up 4 call backs

  • I'm playing Albert Peterson in my High School's musical.

  • HE HAS HAIR NO GLASSES AND IS FAIRLY SKINEY IS THIS HIS REALLY SINGING

  • i love this number!!!! and i love the costumes!!!

  • 'WOW!'

  • Aww, I was in a pantomime over Christmas, and this song was in it, so it reminds me so much of those happy days in the panto.. ='(

  • Was looking for this song, didn't expect to find a hairy Jason with a great voice.

  • What happened to that guy? He's fucking ugly now

  • full of doubt look!!!!!!!! lol he is funny. you cant help but not be sad when watchong this

  • omg i love Jason!!!!

  • so siked to perform this song in our production

  • lip sync

  • What part does Jason Alexander play?

  • Cute!

  • This is gonna be my school musical! look like fun

  • I know this sounds kind of corny and it's sort of a "who cares?" comment, but I remember this one time where I was going through a bad point and my friend, who loves musicals just as much as I do, sent this to me; it really helped me out. Since then, I've loved this song a lot AND I love this version too (especially since I get to here this song a lot now; my community theater's doing Bye Bye Birdie next week and I play Margie.) :)

  • GEORGE! GEORGE COSTANZA!

  • I didn't know they made a remake of this wheres the original!!!!!

  • @latinahoney123 what i hear is theyre making it yet AGAIN in 2011. No cast or anything yet but the idea is there. It was recently revived on broadway so thats probably where theidea came from.

  • @BeccaEve94 wow really their making another remake? You can't top the classic in my opinion but hopefully they do a good job if they do decide to remake it.

  • @latinahoney123 yeh well i imagine that it'll be quite Hairspray-esque in the cast type. But who knows, maybe they'll give some unknowns thier big break. We'll just have to see...

  • @latinahoney123 i so wish i could be in the remake don't care what part but i so wiswh i could be in it i love the version that has dick van dyke and i love the song put on a happy face.

  • @arod12234 I want to be in it too! I still haven't heard their doing a re-make. If anyone has heard anything please let me in on some details. I'm so clueless.

  • I don't think he'd be sued for sexual harassment if he's just trying to cheer her up!! And dancing and acting are a bit different from real life situations.

  • The 1963 version is so much better

  • @BellaDeeBloom its also much less accurate... I just did the musical this year, and we were recommended NOT to watch the movie. I did anyways, and it was awful. It was missing so many songs, and the storyline was messed up in places... *sigh* it was rather disappointing.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, though, and yours is valid. But I like what I like :)

  • IT'S GEORGE COSTANZA!!!

  • @sadsappysucker1337 WITH HAIR!!!

  • banana splits and licorice!!!!!!!! yummmmm! XD XP

  • i have to sing this or memory for voice but idk which one i want to do...which one is better?

  • My school is doing this play this year and it seems better then this

  • Comment removed

  • im playing albert in my school's show!!!

  • @factortenshithawk what school r u going to? my school is doing that musical this year and we had auditions last week

  • i like the song and i like the video but am i the only one who thinks that if he would do that this days he would get sued for sexal harassment oder inapropriate touching and all taht kind of stuff? i just think itsfunny to watch him doing all this funny faces and dancing

  • am i the only one who thinks of Annie and Oliver Warbucks when i watch this? this song is awesome. and Jason Alexander is so good! the girl rocks too

  • He was in The Rink on Broadway with Liza Minnelli. He was in the ensemble, but he is featured in the song "Marry Me."

  • My goodness you would have never known he was on show like Seinfield... this guy has some serious talent.

  • Fantastic! Hey, Jay! ~Pat from NJ :)

  • this is great..

  • ddr at 3:11 :)

  • Haha! Look at Georgie! He doesn't just sing on his answering machine message, he really can sing!

Seriously great job on this song. Just like Dick Van Dyke.

  • I have to sing this song for my vocal class

  • We are doing this show at my shcool and I'm the Sad Girl. It is so much fun! I love this number.

  • @goldengreaser thats hilarious cuz i still do the same thing

  • Whenever one of my friends was really down and out I used to jump arpund and sing this. I usualy got a smile.

  • I love this part

I am totally impressed by Jason Alexander

  • Jason Alexander has class, and he is funny. And talking about the girl, she is so lovely!!

Do you have more clips from this movie?

  • @cargo71 The "Sad Face Girl" is Angela Brydon.

She's now in the new revue "Virtuosity", which is in Toronto, Canada (the first stop of its out-of-town tryout tour before going to Broadway) until January 24th.

"Virtuosity" is amazing, and she's amazing in it (as is the rest of the cast, including Vivian Reed)!

  • I love this song

  • dude

is that seriously the guy from Seinfeld?

    woah

    he can SING

P.S. Awesome song! Do love <3

  • cool song

  • STUPID<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

  • I have to sing this in front of 200 people for this!

  • Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you VERY much

  • Same here. It's gonna be pretty crazy

  • just put on a happy face and you'll do fine

  • This Constanza is not just a neurotic slob from Seinfeld; he's got loads of talent!...and some.

I'm glad to see that he's really broken the mold from that usual bald-headed jerk he plays in 'Seinfeld',' Pretty Woman' & 'Shallow Hal'

  • I think Jason is adorable in this!

  • u should post put on a happy face without the words so its just music...

  • my school is doing this for our musical this year. Who is the girl??

  • Just a random girl at the beginning of the play, I don't think she has a name.

  • Cool. She dances a lot, and my #1 love is dance. Really excited. Auditions Dec 4th!!

  • Omg Mine are the 9th I have to sing this! I'm SO nervous!!

  • GOOD LUCK!!! Im nervous too, but im sure you'll be fine!

  • break a leg!

  • I know this is wierd, but I actually got this part. WOW!!!

  • HOORAY! that's awesome. :)

  • 2:10

    woody woodpecker! LOL

Jason did a great job in this.

  • Oh man, that's creepy at 2:10!

  • wow easy there malteseboo. I appreciate you siding with me but you don't have to go overboard

  • I totally agree with avenueyay. Jason Alexander is amazing at this part. Overdramatic? You people who say that are idiots. If you knew one thing about broadway, this is how people in musicals are upposed to act, like avenueyay said. Try backing up your comments before you say something that you know nothing about.

  • Eh well if you know anything about Jason Alexander, you'd know that he's done Broadway Musicals for 20 years (seriously) and how he's acting in this is how you ARE supposed to perform in musicals. He's an excellent singer and absolutley nailed this part.

  • i like dick van dyke better i agree with vampirelove75 hes overdramatic

  • he makes me smile.

  • The original was so good. Some movies should never be remade because nothing will compare.

  • omg he has hair

  • What a sweet little number. Who was the actor in this sequence? I'd swear that he is Jason Alexander's dad.

  • Um, that *is* Jason Alexander. Were you joking? (Or trying?)

  • I had no idea there was a remake out there. Call me a dummy to assume it was part of the original.

  • You're not a dummy - I actually thought the comment was pretty funny... could have happened to anyone (well, not to me... but a LOT of people, I'm sure!) ;>

  • Alright it's that and, well, i just could not see Jason Alexander as a dancer, much less a pretty good one. It's a serious stretch to my imagination.

  • Comment removed

  • I remeber when i was little. Whenever i was sad my dad sang this song to me!

  • alexander is too overly dramatic. i prefer dick van dyke

  • Dick Van Dyke is awesome but Jason nailed this part. When you're a broadway actor it's supposed to be like he's portraying it. Jason's been doing musicals on broadway for 20 years. Say something negative about Jason after you see some Broadway stuff eh.

  • honey i've seen broadway and it's sad compared to old film musicals. and this is not broadway, it's a sad attempt to bring back a classical musical by making a cheesy made for tv version. i have nothing against jason alexander, in fact i've seen him in a lot of stuff and i am a big fan, but this is not a good example of his talent.

  • Yay!!

  • this will never beat the 60's version

  • I saw Bye Bye Birdie last night at Sequia High! This was my favorite song.

  • Lol this was always my favorite song to sing when I played Albert. =] This was one of my favorite musicals we did in high school and I would give anything to go back and do it again. =]
