@NaomiChambers I line and glue 1/32" thick Lexan, which is similar too, but is harder than plexiglass. The dividers are 1/8" thick Lexan. The yellow foam we use on the bottom is called Fun Foam which we got from Walmart. These 12 bar molds take a 42 oz batch for 1" thick bars.
@MissHingu Her voice is not strange at all. I found her voice to be very natural for making videos, and she had a friendly tone (unlike some other videos which seemed very rehearsed and/or rather mean and unnatural). This was a quick, friendly, no-nonsense soapmaking video.
@Sheldonwh Listen: I am not trying to mean. Is THAT MEAN TO SAY THAT THE VOICE IS STRANGE? LOts of ppl has strange voice. And Who are You to judge me? I don't have uploaded videos so? Shut up If You don't have anything to say
I'm interested in starting to make soap. I notice that you aren't wearing gloves. Should you wear gloves, or have you been doing this so long that you don't make accidents?
@Discernaoftruth Yes, we are being a bad example. You really should wear gloves and eye protection whenever messing with lye. And yes, we have been at this a long time and very lucky. ;-)
@Ldyroscoe I make our molds and dividers myself. I use pine and glue 1/32" thick Lexan, which is similar too, but is harder than plexiglass. The dividers are 1/8" thick Lexan. The yellow foam we use on the bottom is called Fun Foam which we got from Walmart. These 12 bar molds take a 42 oz batch for 1" thick bars.
@MarcoTUV Marco, you should only eat a piece if naughty words have been in your mouth. At least that is what my grandmother used to say. ;-)) It may look good enough to eat, but I am positive it does not taste like it looks. ;-)
@ANTONIA1504 Hello Antonia. Yes cold process soap (glycerin soap) is made with fats and oils mixed with caustic soda (also known as as lye or sodium hydroxide (NaOH)). It produces a wonderful moisturizing soap. The cold process coloring we use are skin safe liquid dyes, sold at various soap supplies companies.
Thank you so much for showing us how to swirl! I have not tried this yet but I think I can do this now! :) Could you share where you have gotten your nice wooden molds and plexiglass dividers? And is the foam from the craft store? And how many lbs did you make in each? It looks like a good many bars were made!
@CaroleN199 Carole, sorry if I missed this. I don't remember if I sent you a separate message or not. ;-( I make our molds and dividers myself. I use Lexan, which is similar too, but is harder than plexiglass. The foam is called Fun Foam which we got from Walmart. And these 12 bar molds take a 42 oz batch for 1" thick bars.
I also need to express how much I absolutely love your soap mold! This is fantastic! Would you be willing to share the materials you used and the design? Please!
I am also a soap maker and I've been working on improving my soap mold.
Hi I am still in the research stage of soapmaking and i would like to know what you line the sides of the woodwn part of your mold with? Oh and the yellow foam thingy, what is that? I am in Australia so our names for things can be different. eg: Lye is called caustic soda here. Your vidoe is very clear and informative. Thank you....!
The sides are lined with a plastic called lexan (a polycorbonate on eBay and some hardware stores), which is also what I made the dividers with. The yellow liner for the bottom is called "Fun Foam", available here about anywhere in the arts and crafts section of stores.
thanks for sharing that s realy nice! do you do the soap with lye or just melt and pour? i am new at this and i am trying to understand the diference. can t wait to start making my own soap too.:)
Thanks soo much for your reply about pouring from a higher point inorder to penetrate the surface!!
By the way, where can I locate those dividers you use? I am going to have a mold made similar to the one you have.. unless you can tell me where you purchased yours? It might be more economical to make it though.
And if you don't mind sharing wherever you get your suppies- oils, fragrances, pigments.. I'd appreciate it!! I'm a newbie and I think I'll enjoy this hobby! Thanks for your time!
Not sure what happened to my answer on your first questio. Anyway, I make our molds and dividers myself. The dividers are made from 1/8" lexan plastic (check on eBay). We get supplies from many places. Some from Wholesale Supplies Plus, Bittercreek, Wellington, TKBtrading, Candlesupplies, Walmart and others. If you're a newbie, I suggest you join a couple of soapers forums (CraftServer, TheDishForum, SoapMakingForum, NWsoapers, ...) and read all the threads on CP Soap and recipes. Good Luck.
I've been searching on ebay and elsewhere for the 1/8" lexan plastic.. but I haven't been able to find any information. Could you help? Is it a solid piece that you have to buy and have 'cut' inorder to create the dividers? Where can I buy it?
And.. how do you get your soap so thin? By the time my soap reaches trace, it's usually very thick..
Just do a search on eBay for Lexan, then look for 1/8" sheets. I use a table saw to cut the pieces to size (like 2 1/2" by 10 1/2"), and a router table to cut the slots where the pieces slide together.
I made those with 1/8" thick lexan plastic. The soap does not seem to stick to lexan. I posted complete instructions in a thread on the Craftserver forum, but everytime I try to include a link in any reply on Youtube, Youtube just seems to ignores my reply.

amandasmith131 2 years ago
The mold has three pieces, the base, and two L shaped sides. Look for Keith Browns how to make a soap mold.
cwayneuc 2 years ago
No, I meant the "dividers" where did you get those?
amandasmith131 2 years ago
