  • they boo great scientists, but once there is a crisis, they go begging us scientists to come up with something to save them. fuck your religion. instead of being appreciative and accepting the fact that your religion is lower than my dogs shit, you disrespect a man who knows more than your god ever will know. what a shame

  • Texas is the center of stupidity and the advancement of ignorance in America. I know, because I lived there for 8 months. Texas is the only state in America where English is not the primary language. It's no wonder they're so dumb, what with their excellent Mexican education system.

  • No, people have been programmed to think he does exist. That's why they get them when they're kids. Start them young so you can guilt trip them throughout their entire lives to keep believing that nonsense.

  • Penn is more intelligent than the 'God' portrayed in the bible ever will be.

  • Bill Nye Our science guy. We need Bill Nye to head the science front as he can bring the science, he can teach science, he can bring the science.

  • 4:40 need i say more?

  • I wonder if that guy who wrote in had to vomit while watching this video

  • I wonder if a atheist has ever contemplated maybees?, what if you die and you become part of a non-corporeal energy powered by all life, and what if in that place your every bit as lost as here except what you believe is your reality? golden heaven, clouds etc Oh wait that is corporeal as well, what you believe is your reality. Neither side, the thumpers or the athesit ask any questions as they dont believe in possibilites

  • @guitargold77

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Atheists, as a rule, cannot hold a belief that is based solely on their atheism. We have beliefs, but atheism does not and generally will not imply belief.

Sure, when you die, your drop of Brahma could return the the omniconsciousness, but the chance of that is nearly as small as there being a God.

Atheists do nothing if not ask questions.

That's how you get to be one.

  • @YetAnotherInfidel For you, but Ive asked enough questions to see atheists in general are limited by what they believe, & everyone has a different concept of atheism. My statement really has nothing to to do with god and everything to do with whats possible. What if theres a afterlife that does have a scientific def. unknown to us, energy & matter & thought, yet god still an enigma? Then I ask if atheists are limited to wonder this believing only whats in a sci. journal as some do bible entries

  • @guitargold77

You still don't get it, I guess I missed the mark.

"Atheists" DO NOT believe that, say, the big bang is true or that evolution is a workable theory based on evidence based on their atheism. They believe it, alot of the time, because they are skeptics.

Just change the word "atheist" to "skeptic".

Anyway, no, as an atheist and a skeptic I can wonder whatever I want. I wouldn't believe it as true, no, unless there was evidence for it.

    Are you limited to wonder?

    Why or why not?

  • @guitargold77

Skepticism or rationalism or any such belief puts no damper on the imagination. Are you suggesting that I couldn't find an atheist artist or musician? People who don't believe in God only share one commonality: the disbelief in a God.

As a matter of fact, the smartest of people, the most scientific, the most rational, they all question profusely and push boundries; however, they have a mind to spend time on things that will bear fruit.

You are wrong in general, erm.. no offence.

  • Maybe Nye was booed because he chose to attack the Bible, apparently only for attacking the Bible's sake. Watch Nye getting owned by Richard Lindzen on youtube...Nye actually thinks Lindzen is wrong about atmospheric science. Lindzen is an MIT atmospheric science professor! Pure narcissism on Nye's part.

  • Speaking as a Christian from Texas...

Go Bill! Fuck those hicks in Waco.

  • It's funny because the Quran makes the distinction

  • I do think atheists are "hipper" than bumble thumping Crimpins, that is a very good "Penn's Point". What i don't understand is why God would make someone as fat and greasy as Penn Point and as small and feeble as his friend, Teller. Maybe Modern Atheism has answer for this? Also, what is this video about? I keep skipping to a part where Penn stops screaming and sweating and then the video ends. I'm left confused.

  • @beautifulbabyandrew His last name is Gillette, not 'point'...thats only the name of the segment of the show.

  • @pennpoint, Please don't assume (not that I think you would) that all Texans are bible-thumping idiots. I'm from Texas & am a happy and proud atheist.

  • Sacrifice animals all you want people. But at the end of the day FACTs are FACTs!

  • The Bible says: And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. The point of what is being told is, God made the light and this is how it rules. It's not the semantics. God Rules. God made ALL the light and God made Bill Nye.

  • @jbaumhauer awww thats such a cute story

  • @PLeasureJet Laughter is the unripened fruit of wisdom.

  • @jbaumhauer 3 things remain unhidden not for long; the sun, the moon and the truth.

  • @PLeasureJet define truth

  • @jbaumhauer actuality

  • lol in my school i have to whatch bill nye

  • lol, Waco...

  • I don't know why they would freak out about that, as Penn said, it is easily explained that we see a light from the moon even though it is reflected light.

  • Bill Nye's image as someone who has better things to do than piss people off is precisely what makes the event so striking. If Hitch or Dawkins had done it then it would leave the impression that they'd picked on retards. Not that that would not be funny, it would just be expected.

    Yes. The hat is awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • Penn sounds like John Madden.

  • TV's aren't aligned, it's pissing me off.

  • I love magic and I love Penn and Teller but this is just a waste of my time....give me my time back Penn...please

  • I wish he would speak at my school D:

  • You cannot judge a whole town by the stupidity of one person who was there.

  • @kboy2k Apparently it wasn't just one person but the audience in general. Plenty of people in texas who are nutters in general, but of course not all.

  • So how does the moon reflecting the sun's light offend ANYONE?

  • @Tareltonlives By telling them that their bullshit story book is wrong.

  • Oh my god! What the hell is this?! :D I'm subbing!

  • Oh my god! What the hell is this?! :D I'm subbing!

  • I'm sorry, but our generation just can't see Bill Nye as the badass, controversialist attack dog for reason, science, and free thought. To us, he's Bill Nye the Science Guy, the paternal figure who taught us about orbits, chemistry, and friction using personality, jokes, and a few explosions.

We have plenty of "go get 'em" guys on our side. We still need the Nyes, the Eugine Scotts, the Barbara Forrests, and the Scott Mooneys too.

  • I want to live in a world where you're booed for lying, and not telling the truth. The bible is wrong about just about everything, you shouldn't get booed for pointing it out.

  • @shabido1 Hmmm ... So you have read the Bible from cover to cover to come up with this opinion ,,,,,, Interesting.

  • @drackxman Hmmm... So, I did read 'a' bible from cover to cover. It is a King James version from the 99 cent store, and it was not really worth the price. It wasn't very interesting either.

Name some things it is right about? I'll list things it is wrong about. Let logic and rationality win.

  • @shabido1 how do u know that what u believe is true? i believe in Jesus because there is just way too much way qWAY TOO MUCH evidence of God's existence. Only problem is that a lot of ppl have been programmed to believe that God doesnt exist

  • @BestMusic2012 Are you playing a fast one on me? The exact opposite is reality. People are subconsciously fed the idea that god does exist. The world is almost entirely a god-believing one completely without actual evidence. Books are not evidence for anything. Hear-say is not evidence for anything. People, billions of them, can be dead wrong their entire lives and pass it down. I know what I believe is true because I'm honest with myself and to my senses.

  • Too much of you dicking about with camera angles. It is boring.

  • Maybe they boo'ed him because he was being an arrogant , condescending asshole. Did you ever consider it from the POV of someone who's not an idiot, which is your default presumptions

  • @VinceP1974 Booing an educator because the facts differ from existing unsupported belief = idiot. That's not a presumption, that's a fact.

  • Penn, that was totally an aside.

  • I grew up watching Bill Nye in elementary school. Don't deny it, in Elementary school, or school in General, when the lights go out and a movie is about to be played, it could be the most boring video, it makes us feel so good. The moon does reflect the sun, too bad religion is blocking the motion for advancing true knowledge.

  • Some people looked up to sports stars in their youth, others were intrigued by movie stars, I looked up to Bill Nye the Science Guy!!

  • @MoonShineProds the illuminatti are a legend completely blown out of proportion by the media... the davinci code for example. say what you like about all your insane theories, they are all complete crap, and nobody believes you. put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.

  • @MoonShineProds hahahahaha you are high my friend. smoking weed under a bare swinging lightbulb in your mother's basement! 9/11 was an inside job, in the sense that bombs were first planted in the bottom floor of the building! the airplanes came next. and illuminatti are not christian, idiot. they are not even an american theory. that is european, and italian to be exact. depending on who you ask theyre are either a satan cult, or italy's secret shadow government or etc. etc.

  • @Rhuarc224 Actually the Illuminati (supposedly) called themselves the Knights Templar, who had their base in the Al-Axir (mis-spelled probably) mosque on the way to Jerusalem. It was their duty to guard Christians on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. So...yeah, the Illumanti can be constreud as a Christian myth.

  • @LichQueenKathie someone's playing a little too much assassins creed. its a video game my friend, dont take it too seriously. the illuminatti have nothing to do with the knights templar. my uncle is a member. seriously, they are night and day. the knights are a catholic war-force, and the illuminatti, depending on who you ask, is a group of satanists, or the shadow government controlling italy. believe me i know all about this crap.

  • @Rhuarc224 I've actually only played my brother's copy of Brotherhood for a few hours once (I suck xD) o:

I got that from a news report I heard once. I also heard that the Illuminati were known as the Knights Templar. I fear I may have been trolled by Dan Brown at some point...which is weird because I never read those.

.....Fck my friends -.- They gave me this nickname.

  • @LichQueenKathie ok haha, but honestly, the only way i can think to say this is just that the two have nothing to do with each other. they were created worlds apart, one rumored in italy as ive said before, and the knights templar started in england just before the first crusade, when the pope called to arms to fight the muslims.

  • Thank you for finally chilling out with the constant camera changes. It was really annoying and distracting.

  • @MoonShineProds and illuminatti? are you high? either you really have no clue as to what the illuminatti is, or you just need to head back your mother's basement under your bare swinging light bulb and think up some other ridiculous conspiracy theories before you hurt your head. and i am southern. yep. and not racist, not a redneck, and i have lived in the deep south all my life. i know how to "work that thar intranet". you are just a prejudiced as you claim us to be.

  • @MoonShineProds wow, fuck you kid. seriously. im not a chistian, i stress that, not. but i dont think its right to pick on people that find faith. and OBVIOUSLY if you pick on something a person has devoted their whole life to, and even just say "hey thats stupid" they are going to react strongly. how are religious nuts running our country? is obama religious(well not christian anyway)? what about our supreme court? House and Senate? you base that on nothing.

  • Bill Nye is a bad motherfucker

  • DAMN IT!!!!!!

    I LIVE IN TEXAS!

WACO SUXS BILL NYE AND NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON RULE!

  • Stick with the magic tricks, Penn.

  • Christians are always so touchy when their holy book of silliness is called into question. Instead of bringing up an arguable point like lights in the sky, simply lead the Christian to the section of the Bible (Leviticus 13) that gives a highly prescriptive cure for leprosy that absolutely doesn't work. Have them read it and justify it to you. Pretty funny stuff. Then tell them the brutal truth: that the modern cure for leprosy that does work, wouldn't work, if evolution weren't true.

  • BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL!

  • So Bill Nye got booed in Texas because he said the moon reflects the sun's light. Not surprising, as most bible-belt hicks are really ignorant anyways.

Galileo was imprisoned for heresy because he said the Earth rotated around the sun instead of the sun rotating around the Earth (true story - look it up).

    Religion suppresses advancement. Period.

  • I grew up watching Bill Nye. I still watch those shows on Youtube every now and then. So it's really hard for me to think of Bill Nye as a fucking badass. I can't imagine him having a metaphorical, big, swinging dick.

All I can imagine is the old Bill Nye we knew from years ago. Maybe that's the problem, but I just can't see him as a big, bad motherfucker.

  • I powerfully want to brush his beard to the right.

  • Damn right, Bill Nye is a fucking badass!

  • Nye's argument is specious. If I were to reflect a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight into a mirror and then into your eyes it would still blind you. You wouldn't say "Stop! Get that reflection of light out of my eyes!". Of the myriad of scientifically questionable facts within the Bible, this surely wouldn't be my first to seize upon.

  • @TrueBlueJMS OK, now suppose the mirror and spotlight were 146,692,378 kilometers apart. That's how far apart the sun and moon are, sometimes ever further.

  • @AssistingHealth I have friends that live just outside of Houston and they say every area in Texas sucks except for Austin, kind of makes me laugh.

  • I think correct spelling infuriates people in Waco.

  • I dislike the camera switching too. The lighting and angle is also better in the side camera.

  • Penn is right as usual. They kind of patronize Nye unfairly. He's also right that Bill should be celebrated as a hero for trying to spread the truth in face of the moronic religious people in this country.

  • @unyobro Oy, I don't run around telling people your belief system is balls. To be more on topic, Bill's a cool guy, and the crowd's being silly for getting pissed off by a technicality.

  • @LeQuack147 - If you think my belief system is balls then tell anyone you want, I don't care. Simple fact is religious people cause lots of problems because of their belief.

Btw it's not a technically. The bible is wrong because it was written by primitive people who really thought the moon had it's own light.

  • @unyobro Plenty of other religious people do plenty of good things as well, what's your point? Faith is like a hammer- it can build houses or break faces. Doesn't mean faith is the problem.

  • I really like Texas, but booing Bill Nye for stating a scientific fact. (that the moon is not lit of itself) - embarrasses me for them.

  • bill nye is like the crazy uncle that din't molest you and just taught you weird stuff.

  • Bill Nye was an asshole when I met him in Seattle.

  • I believe in God!!! if that's not bad enough, I'm also catholic!!!

  • twice i seen you have 1 finger painted. what's up with that?

  • @bassmatt11 I believe he does it because it's his mother's nail polish.

  • I BELIEVE IN GOD! Just kidding...

  • You don't boo Bill Nye. Nobody boos Bill Nye.

  • Second the motion of the bill, Bill Nye Kick Ass

  • The end is Nye..... BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!

  • They should change their name to Wacko Texas or Derp Co Texas.

  • I used to love Bill Nye as a child. He was one of the first ways I actually learned about science other than later on when I started elementary school. If I remember right it was actually the first way that I learned about science because I think I watched it BEFORE I entered elementary school. Never missed an episode! For him to go to Texas of all places and correct the bible on STAGE... I have so much more respect for him after this! He's got balls for doing that! Major kudos from me, Bill! :D

  • @HappyAtheist76 Dude you pretty much just nailed down my childhood experience with Bill Nye....in an almost-creepy way. And yeah, go Bill Nye, kick their asses.

  • @kamspioneerclass Hahaha cool :P

  • I agree with most all of Penn's viewpoints. I'm not sure how individualistic he is though, I believe in oneself being most prominent. For instance, I believe in doing what makes you happy in life, and fuck everyone else.

  • Oddly bothered by Penn's uneven beardy-thing

  • Hey Penn, wear your hair loose (but combed). Almost every guy I'm subscribed to has long hair (it's a coincidence, yup... >_>)

  • Cannot deny Bill Nye.

  • "You Go MutherFuker!"

    LOL

  • What an ENTJ video haha. I don't see his point here.

  • Thank you for the video editing change.

  • Love Bill Nye. I remember watching his videos in school. : )

  • i never thought i could think more highly of bill nye. i was wrong. YOU GO BILL YOU TOUGH MOTHERFUCKRE YOU

  • The episode with start right now! *Intro video* *Advertisement*

  • I wanna know what Bill Nye thinks of this Penn Point. Lol

  • @GreenGearMood

    "Consider the following.."

  • @HereticalPhantazma

i see what you did there.

  • not to sound whiny or anything but I agree with the camera thing it did move around a little to much this video has a better balance of it. Also like the videos keep it up

  • Everything old on the internet is new again. This incident most likely didn't even happen. It just keeps getting re-posted around the internet.

  • When I clicked on this video, there was a Jack Daniels ad playing right before the video played. LOL.

  • Okay, what the fuck? why are people getting offended something so little as the moon reflecting the sun. They should be even less offended because I thought it was common knowledge. Fuck, that's something I learned in third grade.

  • I watched his show when I was 3.

  • Notice how most of the comments are not positive about the camera switching but neutral. Meaning people either hate it or don't mind it. So yes, camera switching is a problem.

  • I don't mind the camera swapping; you almost need it to turn what is essentially an audio rant into a watchable video. His hand held camera gives me a bit of 'Blair Witch syndrome' though....

  • i ain'ted paid to learn dat shit so I's booed two!

  • yea people who whine about cameras aren't listening, they're watching

  • Somewhere, locked deep inside an editing room that smells like old pizza, and B.O. within the bowels of Rev 3, and editor is either laughing his ass of, or cursing you like a sailor. hahahaha! (for the record, Ive never minded the "2 cam switch" and I watch EVER Y one of these you do Penn).

  • love the camera thing why would it bother anyone? The hat is slick, dare you too braid your hair or somthing lol.Bill nye rocks! grew up watching his show ,the rat guy was hilarious lol. And i dare any hard core oganized religous person to research Lloyd Pye and his human origins intervention theory. watch that and then you will see the other side of the story and make and educated decision on your beliefs. poor bill must have been like wow they really are uneducated dip's huh!

  • Yeah I don't mind the camera movement. It's the content that matters to me.

  • BILL NYE IS OUR GUY, AIGHT MAH NIGGAS?!

  • Bill Nye getting booed is like a nerdy Mr. Rogers getting booed.

  • Inertia is a property of matter.

  • I like the camera switching

  • i reckon Penn should look at just one camera and leave the closer one as a profile shot that's in black and white while he's smoking a cigarette so that he can look like a 60's french nouvelle vague star... yeah bright ideas for penn point? That's me!

  • Now if we can get Bill Nye the Science Guy to stop advocating for statist collectivist "green investments" with out tax dollars, it would be nice. He seems to think these prgrams make things greener, when in fact it just misallocates accumulated capital that could of been accumulated and better spent in the private sector. We burn more coal to have electric cars than we do to not have them. Fuck Bill Nye and Ed Bagely, and their statist bullshit! Let's see them "green" the nerd out their lives!

  • @ProIndividual Yeah, because taking care of our home planet is communist! T_T

  • @TomDarkwulf No, because it makes no sense to burn more COAL and TAX more money to do it, so you can have an electric car and THINK your helping the environemnt by burning MORE coal than you did before. How about that nuclear power? That wouldn't exist if not for tax money, caps on liabilities, and subsidies. Corn for ethanol? Complete failure, still funding it as corn prices (feed for livestock) goes through the roof. How about you send me $10, I'll send back $9 and a "green" lisc. made of oil?

  • The camera switching isn't bad in itself, it just happens too often and can make people a bit disoriented. If you just talk into each camera a bit longer before switching then it would be much better.

  • One of my favorite Pennpoints! :D

    Go Bill Nye!!

  • So, Penn takes a 2006 incident that was reported on 2009 blog 03:28 and creates a 6 minute video. Penn didn't apparently check archive.org to get the original article for a more accurate reading.

Well that explains his involvement in the CATO Institute.

  • I've been saying "Bill Nye is a badass!" since 1997. Also, "SCIENCE RULES!".

  • Im a believer but I love Penn! Dont know why other religious people get so angry and offended, people should relax more!

  • @Mrshinobipants

    Me too!!!!!

  • @Mrshinobipants /standing ovation

  • @Mrshinobipants You are completely unprincipled. You should be offended, or at least give up your fairy tale beliefs.

  • @sybo59 Or he could just be reasonable and accept the fact that different people have different opinions and beliefs. Part of being principled means being comfortable enough with your own convictions that other peoples opinions don't really rattle your cage.

  • @jboyko3 Person A: Everything you believe is stupid.

Person B: Haha! I love hearing that; I wonder why my like minded friends don't!

So he loves hearing his values get smashed. Is he a masochist? He loves it but hasn't taken any of the arguments into consideration? Religion isn't really a big deal, and people should just "relax" on such a trivial issue? I don't get it.

  • @sybo59 Of course not. Nobody likes being insulted. The point is that you attacked a person who you don't even know based on one small part of what makes up his character. People are a hell of a lot more complicated than one short sentence they post. I don't agree with everything all of my friends say or believe, that doesn't mean I think they're stupid. Everybody has their own merits and drawbacks, and to say someone should feel a certain way just because YOU think so is morally presumptuous.

  • @jboyko3 I wish people like you would just relax!

One's lack of seriousness about their entire world-view is certainly grounds for a judgement of character (positive or negative), and is hardly as minor as you reduce it to.

I'm not claiming he/she's a bad person--as you said, I don't know them--but I despise the comment, and the too-convenient support it is getting from atheists. It's like a slave owner praising a black man that claims to love his chains. THAT is unprincipled.

  • @sybo59 Okay. Here's me preparing to be calm... Ahhh... Is my tone more relaxing now? I pointed out that you were attacking him/her based on a statement about his/her personal beliefs. My question is, what do you care? What do his/her personal beliefs have anything to do with how you live your life? You think organized religion is a form of slavery. That's fine. But those are just your opinions. Just because you think that way doesn't mean that everyone else is obliged to accept them.

  • @sybo59 Also, I think it's incredibly arrogant to assume to know what a persons entire world view is based on one post. You stated -

"One's lack of seriousness about their entire world-view is certainly grounds for a judgement of character"

Who are you to presume to know everything about an individual based on one post? I think you're prejudiced against religious people. If you despise his comment, why didn't you address the issues raised by his comment. You attacked his character instead.

  • @jboyko3 "I'm a believer..." Yes, theology is an entire world view. Metaphysical primaries subsume everything else. Belief in a super-natural prime mover makes certain implicit claims about the nature of reality itself; it simply does.

"...what do you care?" This is a complete non-sequitur, as I could just ask the same of you and your responses to me. What do I have to do with how you live your life? This gets us nowhere.

  • @jboyko3 "you attacked his character INSTEAD." Instead...of what? That was my sole intention, as it was only the character of the comment that I was interested in. ie. Even IF you have a silly world view, selling it out so flippantly says a lot about--yes--your character.

"a form of slavery" I said nothing of the sort.

"presume to know EVERYTHING about an individual..." Where exactly did I do that again? "Unprincipled" is quite restricted to just his principles, I believe.

  • @Mrshinobipants A believer?

  • @Mrshinobipants Yeah, religion's not about KNOWING anything; it's about following somebody who's faithfully following somebody who's faithfully following some-... who's Awesome and non-WorldSuck. DFTBA!

  • @Mrshinobipants Those people have actually read there religious books and follow it to the letter.

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck Waco (wacko)Texas. Bill Nye is the shit!

  • I don't mind the camera switching one bit, I think it's kinda cool actually.

  • penn = osama = obama = #FAIL

  • @ioneipp

You're fucking retarded if you can't tell the difference amongst those things you listed. In fact, most people who have arguments that include equals signs are retarded.

  • @ioneipp ...Uhhhh?

  • Thank you! I don't mind you having two or three cameras, it was just the rapid switching all the time. Switching just once in a while is easier on the stomach. ;)

  • welcome to 2009. btw, i saw this link on facefuck the other day and it linked to a dubious blog that linked to a newspaper link that was dead by that point. you might want to do a big more research. also i agree with all of your sentiments here.

  • I, for one, love that you're not switching cameras all the time.

  • the fact that you read comments and adjust your behavior is a testament to the awesome two-communication the internet provides.
