I second the comments of blkshepherd. This is THE VERSION of the song. A longer example is elsewhere on YouTube. Find it. The lead singer holds the “hey” note at the 3:13 mark for 9 to 10 seconds! Take a deep breath, and try that yourself. And when you add their renditions of “I'm Gonna Be Sweeter to You Than I Was Yesterday” (yep, better than the mighty O'Jays on this one, too) and “Let's Make Love”, you have to conclude that they were some of the greatest harmonizers in or OUT of prison.
I cant believe someone said the o jays out harmonized the escorts on this one..NOT. i love the o jays..but sorry Nothing beats this version..this is the one i remember back in the 70s when i was a teenager.
Made a bet that this song was sang by the O'Jays. Had never heard this version before the bet. Broke even! This version is just as great as the other.., or versa vice! You can't lose whatever version you use!!

12th grade. I was in "wood shop" when a classmate of mine started partially singing this song. I never knew the name of this song until recently finding it on YOU TUBE.
Didn't think to ask him the name of it. But no matter. I know the name of it now.
I've always loved this song, It just makes me think back to the good times in my life. Yet! I'm still looking over my shoulder for that special man. I introduced this song to my baby brother, when he was 18 years old and he is now 51 yearsold and can still sing this song with true soul.
@fretdoctor: You're absolutley right because i remember what a big deal it was to us in Newark,New Jersey when we heard they were recording out of Rahway Prison.....little did i know that i was going to grow up to work there. I never met any of them when i worked there but the stories some of those old timers told us new Officers when we got there about them.
this song reminds me of being a teenager back in the 80's creasing my dickies and white t-shirt, getting ready to go see my hina...good times. Too bad you can't turn back the hands of time.
@ymemployee Oh man talk to me about that holmes! Ben Davis too, all starched up and creased to the bone ese...sometimes a derby hat too. 13NJJACK ....I thought I heard it all as a kid growing up hearing my dad play his 45s or 8 track player, and felt at one time my musical knowledge of the 60s-70s soul era was impressive. But this song is a perfect example of why Youtube is a remarkable tool. I simply clicked on a window and stumbled on this gem from a group I never heard from for the 1rst time. And it seems there are literally 100s of songs I am discovering for the first time from artists-groups I never heard of.

Yeah I've heard the story of the group being in prison when this song was recorded. Also, I heard that's why they are called The Escorts because they had to be escorted to recording sessions by prison guards.
( ) Enjoy the company of a beautiful woman tonight, your place or hers. go to..... ..w w w . Escortsplaytime. c o m............ ( eroticy, Quite an act to follow )
These brothers were in Rahway prison when they recorded this song. George Kerr, the producer, had to get permission from the powers in charge to bring equipment in to record them. The music was recorded by session musicians in a studio and the track was taken into the prison where the group recorded the vocals. The lead vocalist Jimmy Haynes and two other members continued the group and toured a bit when they were released.
This is a great rendition, however the original version is the best, Done in 1968 by the O'jays with Eddie Levert killing the song like only he could do.

What's the skipping sound at the beginning? Weird.

Yeah I've heard the story of the group being in prison when this song was recorded. Also, I heard that's why they are called The Escorts because they had to be escorted to recording sessions by prison guards.

Maybe if they had stayed in Rahway State Prison, we could have had more good music like this!

You STILL go to jail for being black or brown! Sad to admit, but it will probably always be that way homeboy.
