@buddymacs Most of these horses if not used for this would go onto being canners (to mexico and Canda for slaughter) They use the younger ones a few times a year for these events and when they grow up they are put into rodeos for bucking horses. Keep in mind, they live in wide open spaes 340 days a year living as horses should. They get brought to town the rest. What's worse, this, or horses actually truly being abused left hungry by their owners and kept in inhumane conditions?

You should see how WILD HORSES are round up in Nevada. A helicopter chases then as a person tranquilizes them. Talk about falling on your face at a high rate of speed. Not to mention it isn't soft dirt like arenas.
Now the water supplies are being cutoff to these WILD HORSES here in Nevada so they can ultimatley die of thirts. WHY!?! I'm writing my senator daily to find out an answer or at least speak on behalf of these creatures. NO ANIMAL DESERVES TO SUFFER. ie Osama Bin Laden....

I am a qualified animal Pysiotherapist and can genuinely say in my 'professional' opinion that serious muscular and skeletal damage WOULD have been caused to those poor horses by this method of roping. This is sport, not humane, and definately not the best way to train an animal how to trust people in it's education. If this is the best method of farming these horses, and caring for them...it'd be the quivalent to buying a china tea set then taking care of it by smashing it on the floor .

Actually the crime is in the portrayal of this story. The horses are not normally handled in this rough of a fashion and ropers a disqualified in doing so. People need to actually attend a big loop roping with skilled ropers and I think they would realize that the humane society like most of its other presentations is extremely biased. In western movies not so long ago the Running 'W' ( wires attached to horses frount legs) was frequently used to bring down ridden, galloping horses for dramatic effect, see The Wild Bunch for graphic scenes of this disgusting practise, many of the horses were never fit to work again if they even survived without breaking their legs or shattering their spines. The so called American Humane Society has supposedly stopped this in movies but whats so different here?
How people could do this to a horse makes me sick. For hundreds of years they have done our hard labour, carried us into battle and wars and this is how we repay them??? @sargentzanstudio Horses don't have a high pain tolerance. Another thing, horses snap their legs for no reason all the time - it's very easy to do. The mare I used to ride slipped on ice in her paddock and broke her leg. And any idiot knows that when horses break their legs, they have to be destroyed. So even if strangling a horse with a rope around its windpipe isn't cruel, trying to take out a horse's legs IS. Learn something before you make dumbass comments.

I am a qualified animal Pysiotherapist and can genuinely say in my 'professional' opinion that serious muscular and skeletal damage WOULD have been caused to those poor horses by this method of roping. This is sport, not humane, and definately not the best way to train an animal how to trust people in it's education. If this is the best method of farming these horses, and caring for them...it'd be the quivalent to buying a china tea set then taking care of it by smashing it on the floor .

All kinds of people care about their livestock enough to keep them alive and fat which is fine but that doesn't include ethical treatment by any means. Actually the crime is in the portrayal of this story. The horses are not normally handled in this rough of a fashion and ropers a disqualified in doing so. People need to actually attend a big loop roping with skilled ropers and I think they would realize that the humane society like most of its other presentations is extremely biased. I’m all for treating animals kindly but sometimes human to human relations are the cruelest of all!

I've personally been branded twice in my life so don't tell me that a thick hided calf or colt can't take it. These animals are tough. In western movies not so long ago the Running 'W' ( wires attached to horses frount legs) was frequently used to bring down ridden, galloping horses for dramatic effect, see The Wild Bunch for graphic scenes of this disgusting practise, many of the horses were never fit to work again if they even survived without breaking their legs or shattering their spines. The so called American Humane Society has supposedly stopped this in movies but whats so different here?

How people could do this to a horse makes me sick. For hundreds of years they have done our hard labour, carried us into battle and wars and this is how we repay them??? As a horse owner myself, this is about the most dangerous way for a horse to fall, landing on its neck like that is fatal. Sometimes I just wonder how these people live with themselves. @sargentzanstudio Horses don't have a high pain tolerance. Another thing, horses snap their legs for no reason all the time - it's very easy to do. The mare I used to ride slipped on ice in her paddock and broke her leg. And any idiot knows that when horses break their legs, they have to be destroyed. So even if strangling a horse with a rope around its windpipe isn't cruel, trying to take out a horse's legs IS. Learn something before you make dumbass comments.

Horses are highly sensitive, this is just bullying babies. Animals by nature put up with pain and don't shame symptoms of lameness because of predators. Impossible to know what they are thinking or feeling but some studies have gotten close. They are capable of comprehending far more than you give them credit for.
