  • great really enjoyed it!

  • You forgot Sweet Home for the NES

  • My insatiable hunger for the Horror Genre won't end until we have a full sensory game to play. Basically, a Virtual Reality type thing, but with it's own AI and Physics, so I can have almost limitless freedom in how I interact with the game...

But, dreaming aside, I think the next Generation of games (Assuming they finally end the FPS+Explosions fad) will perfect the whole Helpless Player Survives Hell feeling.

  • You forgot an imprortant game (which influenced RE the most)

sweet home...the first real survival horror game

  • @Unblacken I recently got a hold of Sweet Home (Granted by form of ROM) and haven't been able to stop playin' it since. Truly a great one.

  • @RyuLoki you lucky son of a bitch. haha i really want that game but i dont have nintendo or famicom...how ru playing it? i wish they could remake that game into like a resident evil remake format but with the same horrific story.

  • @Unblacken Well, since it's the ROM, I'm usin' an Emulator (Not sure of it's name, but it's labled FCEUX 2.1.2) to play it. The ROM I have is a fan translation, but it's accurate so, yay!

I'd reccomend gettin' it. Coolrom [dot] com has some Emulators (And ROMs) to look at. Dunno if they have Sweet Home though. Might need to do a google search for it.

  • Haunted House for the Atari 2600 is the first survival horror game that I can think of. It had horror elements and came out before Uninvited.

  • two words, DEAD SPACE

  • lol, what is Brain Dead Studios anyway?

  • I have a problem with this. One of the first horror elemented games was on the Commodore 64 in 1983, which was Forbidden Forest, the second one came out in 1985 called Beyond the Forbidden Forest and that same year Friday the 13th came out. But if you want the first true Survival Horror game, it was Project Firestart for Commodore 64 which released in 1989.

  • DEAD SPACE

  • @skrooloose121

    SUCKED

  • @LadyMurderMaid hrmmm well fuck you.

  • @skrooloose121

just showered so no, but I'm flattered.

  • @skrooloose121 that's ok I didn't want Aids anyway.

  • i read that the 1st suvivor horror game was a rpg style game called sweet home

  • i feel bad to be the one to say it, but this documentary really suffers from poor use of language. the terms the narrator uses are often vague or downright unfit. it's often difficult to tell what he is trying to convey.

  • unwated sunds like silent hill cool io want to play it

  • Theres only one true horror game that ive been to afraid to actually beat i mean after each fight i literally stopped to cathc a breath and that was Doom 3

  • I want make a survival-horror game sometime during my career as a videogame-designer

  • Where do you leave Sweet Home from Capcom?

  • me luvs clock tower, have any of you tried calling its pant pissing good

  • I love your documentary. It's very good! I hope we will see a descent return of the "horror" in modern "survival-horror" games though...

P.s. Love all of those games but personal favourite is Resident Evil ^^

  • @vul4ak Check out Penumbra Overture, Black Plague and soon to be Amnesia: The Dark Descent. All of these is Survival Horror going back to the original roots.

  • @ChrisRedfield1991 I've already played the Penumbra games and they're effin awesome! But for Amnesia I'm not sure if my PC will run it :/ Still I can't wait to play it... somehow :D

  • man i love the stories and themes and everything in survival horror games but im too scared to play the,

  • um what i dont understand is why everybody liked bioshock i played the demo and i guess thats were nazi zombies got there perks lol

  • that was a good doc. I've never heard of Uninvited before. the game which I've read influenced Resident Evil the greatest was an NES RPG called Sweet Home which takes place a in a mansion

  • WAIT A MINUTE!!! I don't see any Dreamcast control on the time chart!!! Resident evil Code: Veronica?

  • Haha, the Clock Tower I have for PS1 looks so bad compared to this! What went wrong!?

  • graphics XD

  • Yeah, tell me about it! Sad thing is, this version is older than the PS1 version I believe. Aww, reminds me of Dreamcast!

  • @MeowYin PS1 was supposed to be an SNES expansion

  • where is the xbox in that console timeline at 2:33 ???

  • Hey this is not bad. I like the script and the content, and it is quite informative. I was actually planning to do a similar topic for a project :D

  • Too bad you didn't include Condemned: Criminal Origins and Doom 3 in your documentary.

  • Yeah, I have both of those games and they're really good.

  • I only have Doom 3, never played Condemned, it is good?

  • uh...Doom isn't a survival horror game. It's a first person action horror.

  • No, it's a survival game. Don't confuse Perspective with Genre.

  • ...I'm not. It's an action game, like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, not a survival game.

  • Resident Evil 4 is more of a Survival Horror then Resident Evil 5. In RE4, you were alone with no help in the dark. In RE5, you had daylight and Shiva was beside you all along. Doom 1 and 2 was an action game but on Doom 3 it leaned more to SH. Could you tell me what the difference is between RE 4 and Doom 3 in details?

  • RE4 is just as bad as RE5 at being a survival horror. They're just simply action adventure games at all. It doesn't matter if you were alone in 4 (despite the fact that Ada CONSTANTLY helps Leon). Both it and 5 FEED you ammo. There is never any worry about being in danger of any sort in either game, and both have crap atmosphere. And telling you the difference between RE4 and Doom 3 in detail would take more than a post on youtube to do.

  • Well then send it to me in as a message, please. I would like to read it.

  • Great Video! I thought it was a good watch and can't wait for the next one! 5/5

  • thanks ^_^ glad you liked it, we will be making 2 different podcasts for science and math class before we finish helpless 3

  • This was really cool, though I still don't understand how you related Silent Hill as a Clock Tower decendent.

  • We were going by date of release, and what games inspired each other. That, and there are many similarities between Clock Tower and Silent Hill.

  • This was a very fascinating and informative documentary on the history and origin of the genre. Kudos, Gecko.

  • very interesting documentary, better than those crappy discovery channel documentary XD

  • lol thanks :P
