Hi Mr.CassetteMaster, I am looking for a fairly inexpensive tape recorder (standard Compact-Cassette), player, duplicator with line out (or suitably subtle/accurate volume control) and decent quality sound output and line in for recording. I figured you'd know of some good ones.
does this machine have cue and review? i find this one of the most handy things on 'notebook' recorders like this (second being a counter). Also, is the mech metal or plastic? About this time is when they switched to imported cheap metal standard mechs (instead of their own design) I think.
I have the Philips version of this cassette recorder. It's a really cheap thing...
I have no idea why the previous owner put that additional label on the machine because below that label it says the same... have you looked under the label yet?
But there is an interesting story: my grandmother too had this cassette recorder, and it said "made in Hong Kong". But in 1989 Hong Kong was given back to China, so my version (like yours) wich was made later in the year just said "made in China".
Never seen a 1989 Maggie cassette recorder before, but this was were they started turned into crap. GE had gone crap after it was bought out by Thompson to Jasco Products, the one that manufactures GE stuff, but GE doesn't make tape recorders anymore. These are all made in China, not Japan and not in the USA, only China.
I think DrCassette has a Philips badged unit just like that one, it may be a slightly different model, but I think it's similar. That machine surly is DC Bias. Are you using your JVC camcorder? There's a slight chorusing effect going on in the audio, I've heard it on a few other videos that were uploaded by Danielgosson, I believe he too was using a JVC digital camcorder.
I'm guessing it's from late 1989 due to the fact it's Made in China, but it sure outlasted today's China crap. Good choice of music off the radio btw!
Nice product report!

I didn't realize that they made stuff in China that long ago. That could be a real collectable!

I don't know if you'll remember me or not, It's been 2 years.
Either way, I want to appologise, my comments were idiotic and completely uncalled for.
I'm sorry for offending you, Ricky.

Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997 instead of 1989 (:->

Oops! I mixed up something :)
But still, it's interesting that this model first was made in Hong Kong and then in China.

Interesting recorder, does not look like there is much wear on the buttons. Works good and sound pretty good too.

Lotta sibilance splatter in that circuit. Not surprising for an early piece of Sino-fecalware.

What is Sino-fecalware?
CassetteMaster 2 years ago
'Sino' is a diminutive for the 'Sinosphere' which is East Asia. 'Fecal' is scientific for shit. 'Ware' is a diminutive of 'hardware'.
Yes. You are in the Anglosphere.
