Surprised this was the first time they played this song live, was always one of my favorites. I saw them on the Freakshow tour but can't remember if they played this, guess not.
Does anyone know where i can get this on DVD?? ive looked everywhere at different sites and cant find it...i really really want this! I live in US also..dont know if that matters if it will play or not.
@bethany2nirvana I found it and bought it from a site, but it was shipped from the US. So it took some nice time to arrive aaaand, was kinda expensive. But not so much (at least for me) as if i'd have bought it from an foreigner site.
@IronRevolution what site did you buy it from? i want it from the us if possible bc i need it to be a region 0 or 1 so it will play on my dvd player. all i have found are aussie dvds that wont play here :(( any suggesions, let me know. :)
While a lot of bands whose members are in their 30's or 40's just play overdone crap and try to copy Nickelback & Creed, these guys create amazing and mesmerising songs like this in their teens.
@astronot29 they did its just they sucked really bad its called young modern im glad they broke before they make another horrible album and i would totally lose respect on what they did
I've been listening this song for years. Never impressed me too much. A few days ago I listened it again and I could feel shivers going down my spine. Now I can say I love this song.
Silverchair is amazing!!! Had the opportunity to see them live in San Diego and it was by far the best experience of my life! I touched Daniel Johns hand, I haven't washed it since then ;)
Wooooah, never heard this version before. They fucking owned it, wow, holy crap. I fucking love this band.
And to add to the album discussion, everyone really needs to check out Diorama and Young Modern thoroughly. I have a few friends who dissed it and YM when it came out, just because it wasn't the Frogstomp/Freakshow Silverchair that they knew. But boy, are they missing out. To brilliant, classic albums, by an amazing band.
Actually, every album is awesome INCLUDING Young Modern. If it's not your thing, then fine, I can dig it. But I still say you should really check it out and just listen to it thoroughly with an open mind. These guys are on to something amazing.
Dude it's the same version as it is on their 2nd Album (Freak Show) He could write songs like this at 17 (obviously before it came it came out), Young Modern is just gay pop compared to what they can do.
Well, you must be all kinds of fucking stupid. This is definitely different than the Freak Show version. Besides that, to deny Neon Ballroom, Diorama, and Young Modern, you must be pretty ignorant. Hopefully one day you'll see what you're missing out on; amazing music. One day, kiddo, one day.
haha you mean that little intro ? They often add little intos when they play live. He could play that when he was 11, reminded me of the pink pascal princess sound a little (track 11 on Neon Ballroom) one of my least favourite songs of theirs.
Who said I would deny Neon Ballroom or Diarama ?
Emotion Sickness from Neon Ball room is my favourite song of theirs & I think World apon your shoulders & One Way Mule from Diarama are awsome too. Their first 4 albums rape Young Modern !
This is just WOW...Think we can talk them into performing it again :P i wish i was still into them in 2003 (yeah i kind of seperated myself from them and never really heard from them and fell back in love with them around winter time) cause all of their shows in 2003 seem to be like the best silverchair shows ever. :( can someone build me a time machine
What I like about this song is the sorta back story on it. I mean, they were like kids when this song came out on 'Freakshow.' I don't know of a lot of adults who can come up with this kind of musical progression. With all the instruments that were involved here, oh heavens!!! When you hear it on their CD, it's like got a full on orchestra + the whole sitar thing. These guys were WAY ahead of their time. And if they don't care to keep this kinda sound going, then I wish someone else did!!!
I agree. if you like this song then you would love the band the Tea Party, Who at the time were pretty big in Australia even though they were from Canada. Sadly though the Tea Party broke up, but they have several albums, all of which are in this vein for sure.
@Novelwit2000 Not to mention how insightful the lyrics are for someone to come up with at that age. The actual wording isn't terribly poetic but anyone who has gone through depression or addiction withdrawal would probably agree with me that this song describes those feelings in a way that I've never heard otherwise. Hard to believe that a 16 year old could tap into that sort of thing.
this is what silverchair should be today i mean diorama was "poppy" which is obviously important to dan but it was still ROCK music there is no rock at all in YM nor in any of their concerts anymore.....such a shame
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
see how great this band used to be i mean this is not purely grunge sounds like psychedelic rock i expect this kind of music from george harrison with a modern twist if they want to grow as musicians they could have took a better direction than that shitty ass gaywad album young modern
I thought you hit it right on the head...Silverchair could've been so, SO much more than this teenie bop, pop star shit that is young modern. That cd brought the "is Daniel Johns gay?" question up again.
8 pains me to see that this is the best that could come up with... 8s like seeing kiss making a disco album 8s painful!!! im not asking for another grunge record but come on man they were kicking ass ever before they have pubes you know
Have you two really tried listening to YM with an open mind...I mean really?..not just skimmed through it and realized it wasn't full of their rich toned psychedelic or hard core grunge songs of the past and then just turned it off/switched it after the first few seconds of each one?..that's what I did at first but after truly listening to each one with an open mind I discovered how excellent each one is for what it IS..plus check out the YM songs done live & unplugged..MUCH better actually ;)
That's how you listen to an album though. When I first listened to Frogstomp and Freak Show I listened to the singles forever. But at one point you have to put on the album and NOT TOUCH IT. Just let it play. You'll hear riffs you enjoy, a catchy chorus, words that resonate, anything. I need to do that with Diorama. I haven't fully accepted anything after Neon Ballroom...Although, I did buy YM...
thats weird that you say that, because i cant really accept anything before neon ballroom, and even neon ballroom its hard for me to listen to, because it just brings back painful memories
I like about 2/3rds of the songs in young modern.. Reflections of a Sound I still cannot get into though.. it's just.. annoying.. I prefer most of the songs how they perform them live though, Young Modern seemed overproduced and just lacked a feeling of raw energy from their other albums. That's my main complaint, which is legitimate right?
i think what he meant for "killing it" is in a good way anyways used to be a great band but natalie imbruglia might have given him the bad case of "pussylitis"
daniel is a very underrated guitarist
