@DBCOOPER888 only because of its pricetag. its more of a family car or status car if you will, because of its weight the 0-60 time is only 6.1 seconds. The real world michael clayton, who is single, probably drives one of those caddy cts-vs or a supercharged jag, both with more impressive stats for the same price... i would imagine.
Actually this scene is tied to an earlier scene in the movie. When Michael goes to Arthur's apartment after his death and finds the small red book, he opens it and sees a picture of a group of horses. Watch the movie again. When he sees these horses on the hill, it's like the prophecy that Arthur told him earlier is now actually happening.
20jazzfunkgreats describes it pretty well below. His life is crazy, and he needs a moment to step out of it and do whatever looking at the free and flowing horses does for him. The Tom Wilkinson character's behavior is probably getting him thinking more than anything. Haven't seen this movie in awhile but that's how I remember it. Love this scene.
I feel like there's nothing solid holding it up, but the film is put together in such a way that everything is smooth and beautiful. It feels somewhere between a Michael Mann movie and the Thin Red Line where everything was a dream. So for that, I let it go. You're right though.
@frynlaurie In the movie when his son showed him the book with the horses on it didn't he ignore his son and the book. Same thing with Arthur. Then he comes upon this scene and remembers. Gets out of his car and focuses on the horses. His car then blows up. It's almost as if his son and Arthur were saving his life. It's probably not that simple but just a theory.
Its a good movie. Not amazing. I still don't really get this scene. If anyone can shine some light, that would be great. Some people are saying that he has changed throughout the movie, so that now he notices things he didn't notice before. .....Huh? If thats what they were going for then its kinda inconsistant with the general feel of this movie (not to mention, far fetched). If Im way wrong, please let me know. I like symbolism but again, if thats what this is, it feels so out of place.
I feel its symbolism. These 3 horses to me represent the people he encountered in the film, Tilda Swinton's character, Arthur and Sydney Pollack. Possibly thinking how these people couldnt live as peacefully as these horses. Or Michael relates to them how he, like them, just wants to be left alone however painstaking his job title at the firm can be. Maybe im looking at it to plain but tis a start. :) I have to see this movie again, but this time very closely.
The cover of Realm and Conquest, that book his kid kept talking about, had a picture of horses on the cover. I think when Clooney's character drove by, he had to get out of the car bc these horses reminded him of that book.....thus saving his life.
a prophetic moment i hope. when we are stripped of the comforts of ego we can begin to understand that the individual subjectivities and intelligences of other species exist on earth besides ours. a pivotal moment in film and if we're lucky, someday for 'humanity'. so close a word to 'humane' how ironic :-D that would be if it were (ironic) :-DD
I know those horses! the farm I work and ride at supplied the horses for this movie. The grey ones name is Dino, the Chesnut in the middle is Sidekick, and the bay on the end is Gunner!

Arthur: You think you got the horses for that?
Michael: I'm not the enemy.
Arthur: Then, who are you?

Funny you should say that, Atch21.
I guess you must have bought them from the previous owner FarmGirl345 mentions in HER comment over a year ago (comment #4)?

its really weird when you watch a movie and say 'hey, i live there.' I've actually walked my dog in that field and hiked along that ridge he ran.

No matter how hard I try to pick apart this scene I still dont get it. Like there's just nothing to support it but out of context its a great scene.
