@canabal72994 It is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. At least visible to the human eye.
STFU haters, this is not an easy sport, much technique and form involved. There's no point at throwing things and running behind a ball like many sports, too... stop questioning.
Jefferson Perez is a savage athlete any of you pricks who thinks it easy try and fucking walk 12.4 miles at an average of 6m15 a mile and see how fucking smart ye are , brave fucking boys behind a computer.
The person you see here is Jefferson Perez, he won the olimpic gold medal in Atlanta 1994, and three gold medals in World Championship in Athletics 2003, 2005 and 2007, he set a world record in 2003... in my country (Ecuador) he is a great hero, he gave us our first olimpic gold medal. In such a small country like Ecuador that is something really remarkable...
"Race walking" single-handedly sucked all of the prestige and glory out of the idea of winning an Olympic medal, which used to symbolize world class athletic skill. It's just common sense that if you're competing in a race on two legs, you RUN... or you get your ass kicked by those who instinctively took to running... cause, you know... it's a RACE. Not only does "race walking" look retarded... the whole concept is completely retarded. What's next? The short jump? Competitive sleeping?
@MonkyMonk729 Lol "The short jump" hahaha Agreed. There's a reason I only know this exists by stumbling upon it on youtube :P It's ridiculous!.....kinda impressive...but ridiculous O_o
im a cross country running and i decided to try a mile while race walking. it fucking sucked lol i walked one mile in 7:45 and it was hell. idk how these guys do this but this seems harder than running a half marathon
Racewalker and runner here from nz. what's with all the negative comments? This sport is really difficult, and you use a bigger percentage of your muscles than you do when running. If you can't handle the jandal, then you need to have a reality check at how unhealthy you likely are. :)
Pause at 0:23, both feet off the ground. Let's not lie to ourselves, this isn't really walking, lol. They are walking a 0:14/mile pace faster than I can run a half marathon.
Whats the secret? Do they hold their poop for three days before they train. I'm on to some thing here, aren't I. OMG, exlax. I thought i saw that winner heading for the bathroom. Fucking cheat
Fucking bunch of cheats! Replay any race walker and they clearly have both feet off the ground at the same time (Often shown by the TV companies in slow mo). When the judges can be arsed to flag them why aren't they disqualified? One lift = running so how can they be allowed to continue? The rules allow loads of warnings which is ridiculous. Time to stop this fiasco and disqualify the cheats.
@GeorgeAmsterdam Cheats? Not at all. The IAAF rule says judging must be carried out with the naked eye, not with cameras. In reality, virtually every walker trying for speed loses contact with the ground, however hard they work to stay on it. If judges can see with unaided eyes that a walker is off the ground it can be assumed that he/she is making insufficient attempt to comply with the rule. But cheating? Not unless there is a cynical strategy to do so - like running when no judges are around.
@StuC5 How can you say they aren't cheating and then say "virtually every walker trying for speed loses contact with the ground"? Yes, that's why people run, to go faster than walking! I think I'll enter with a motorbike. That will be the reality of me trying to go faster.
I have nothing against this sport if rules were upheld. Every walker should have sensors on their feet and one lift = disqualification. Allowing any running in a walking event is completely ridiculous.
@GeorgeAmsterdam How can I say it? Quite easily. Cheating implies dishonest intent. Doping is cheating. Using equipment that secretly contravenes rules is cheating. Exploiting an absence of official scrutiny to impede another athlete is cheating - and so on. But breaking a rule whilst trying to be competitive is no more than that - breaking a rule - and walking has tougher sanctions against rule breaking than most sports. Policing the rules is harder now, admittedly. We're working on it.
@kroen I doubt it. The average Olympic race walker is clicking off 6 minute miles. Try running at a 6 minute mile pace for an hour and 22 minutes and we'll see if you're still on your feet. Make no mistake these are elite athletes.
i dont get it. is it a cardiovascular workout?? i just dont see the point. most olympic events represent real life situations (javelin= hunting, running=running obviously, high/long jump= jumping over an obstacle). last time i checked when a killer is chasing you, you arent going to speed walk away..
@heresjohnnnyy1 Cardiovascular? Very much so. Walkers routinely push their heart rates up to around 80% and keep it there for hours in training. They back these up with over-distance walks of up to 5 hours, plus hard fartlek and intervals work for anaerobic development. In short, they do everything runners, cyclists and swimmers do. Historically, men walked long distances to their work places (farms, factories) and did it fast (to keep warm.) A man running was often seen as a fleeing criminal.
@0nePumpChump I wish i was an expert on judging power walking a billion miles..instead im doing something more important..i got here from watching a ruck march for the military...so i wasn't really looking for something to complain about..To each their own though.
You do realize that you can always pace your legs faster, and that requires unbelieavable strenght from your legs, not to mention upper body strenght and balance as well. When you walk fast, you are sort of "out of balance" the whole time you walk, and your upper body muscles are constantly fighting to keep you up. Go try speed walking for yourself.
You do realize, that you can always swing your legs faster? It's just like running, you can run slow or run fast. And you can always run faster, you can always walk faster too.
News Flash jackasses... a very large percentage of marathon trainers these days are run/walking... within 10 years or so, when we finally wise up, most will race or at least train this way. including you. The fact is, most (80%+) are done running, because they just can't anymore, by age 40.
-or-
follow your retarded purist method and you'll wind up in the orthopedic surgeon's office by age 40.
This event was invented by Benny Hill. You used to have to do all of this while being chased by 6 British nurses in lingerie and a little bald guy riding a wheel chair poking you with a cane.
Eventually they simplified the sport. Apparently, it was too hard on the nurses.
You should see the 400 meters Moon Walk! All competitors must wear one white sequin glove and at the finish line they have to twirl, tip their hat, and say, "HEE! HEE!" in a high pitched voice.
First off, yes I can do a 6 min mile, and I top the scales at over 250.....pretty unbelievable but possible. Second, that walk is way too hard for me, as my arms would tire out under their own girth swinging (I have 21 in biceps,it's way too much for me to do that) so bravo to these guys.
@lechodemeista Didn't know this was an actual sport. Don't take my word on this, but I think the key rule is that at least one foot needs to be on the ground at all times, unlike in running where you're suspended in the air. They'd probably get penalized by seconds, and if not, disqualified.
I think that is would be very difficult to judge the real waling and to actually make you u do it when the athlete does it. I think there is some major cheating...
Also, it just looks like clumsy jogging. so just jog...
@jamesz5000 hahahaha, that's funny. Look's like they need to go to the bathroom when it's too late.
I do speed walking on the treadmill though and it burns off about 400 calories. I don't move my butt like that though or move my hands that way, I just walk fast.
What would you call a bike race with some of the worlds best endurance athletes riding fully capable bikes, but they weren't allowed to shift out of 1st gear?? ......boring.
What would you call a bike race with some of the worlds best endurance athletes riding fully capable bikes, but they weren't allowed to shift out of 1st gear?? ......boring.
Yes Big Rob, haters knock any sport they can't do... that's why they watch football and baseball and NASCAR, because they can tell all their buddies they were good at it once... haters don't bother educating themselves that there are more marathons than the Boston marathon, there are more bike tours (let alone bike races) than the Tour de France. And the advertisers play on this... for instance, Kristin Armstrong not only isn't related to Lance Armstrong, but she's retired anyway.
hahahaha i was lolling so hard at that guy at like 45 seconds when he was trying to catch up to the guy in front of him but he couldn't cause he's FUCKING WALKING! LOLOLOL
back off dick....I just said that maybe you would be happier someplace else instead of wasting YOUR valuable time bitching about shit you cant do anything about and seems to do nothing but piss you off enough make you want to write out really negative shit.
And if you would read and understand what I wrote than you would see that I am NOT opposing free speech
but rather offering a comment that basically said "if it pisses you off that much....why are you here?".
I did try to explain what racewalking is so you can see at least the facts that you and muffin seemed to be confused or unknowledgable about.( or making fun of.....it really is the original "silly walk")
THATS free speech......helping each other to learn.
now.....
go smoke a joint or drink a beer....kick back and relax...........
"There are many things that have been done since 1908 that are just awful? and pointless."
like your comment here.....or golf.
hay TheStereoField....please go find something you like.
if all you gona do is be pissed and think this is all "awfull and pointless", then stop wasting your valuable time here and go find something you like.
Hey buddy, this thing we're on right now, it's called the internet and it's a good exercise yard for free speech. This means that I'm entitled to my opinion and so are you, whether it's a negative or positive one. So don't get butt-hurt over my opinion, because it's just that...an opinion! If you think I'm personally attacking you, you're wrong, and you gotta just chill out man. Cheers!
This is walking i.e ...."not lifting your back toe until your lead heel is on the ground"....i.e. not leaving the ground....its walking not running or jogging and it takes a great deal of discipline to achieve the speeds that the pros go at.
which BTW is probably faster than you can run.
.
at least TheMuffinman421 posed a question to learn more about it.
and...ya it looks like we just ate a bunch of bad apples and were lookin for a place to "blow a load" real bad in a hurry.
its not necessarily about speed. its about mastery of the form.
once you have mastered the form you can do anything within it.
.
For those that dont understand it, do some phuquing research so you can know what your talking about instead of ignorantly criticizing what you dont understand.
.
for TheMuffinman421:
And yes you will get D.Qd (disqualified)if you brake form.
.
jogging/running means that your leaving the ground for a second in between steps.
Excelente Maestro Jefferson Pérez eres el mejor mis mas cinceras felicitaciones por ser un ejemplo para el deporte mundial.CONGRATULATIONS. Saludos desde Barcelona España
I´m shure that 90% of people here can´t even walk chewing gum, oh wait, they even walk, if you are a proffesional runner (at least if you do 1 hour of exercise per day) then you can talk about walking as a sport (by the way, walking is healthier than running just for general knowledge)
@LMBAA no youre totally wrong. the only bad thing about running is the toll is takes on your joints. other than that, running is 10000 times better than walking. you dont do anything when you walk. youre probably just too much of a fatass to run so you walk and say that its legitimate exercise.
@ru4ku92 ok, are you part of a secret pro-active group o runners against people that walks? .... just for you to know... you are right!! congratulations! I don´t run, I am a terrible runner, besides that, it makes my head explode (hedache)... anway you are wrong in other thing, I´m not a fatass, actually I was a professional swimmer until I left it for other sport, an exiting one though, I was a surfer until I started college and I could go to the beach all day anymore, but guess what, I started
@ru4ku92 with artistec roller skating (I used to do ice.skating, but it was too easy for me, roller is harder) well, apart of that, I also go to the gym, 3 hours from monday to thurday and do Yoga and dancing, oh! I was forgetting something, for my brain I play chess, and my parents are nutricional doctors sooo I´m a very healthy girl.
Ok people lets explain something. Some of you say "Why dont they just run?" Number one this is race "walking" Secondly, running and walking are two DIFFERENT excersises, which make them different sports.
exusme.your knee must be straight from the point your toe-heel touches the ground and you use way more of your core race walking than jogging/running. there is nothing stuck up your butthole...but u can stick one up yours to try if you'd like :)

@lechodemeista Didn't know this was an actual sport. Don't take my word on this, but I think the key rule is that at least one foot needs to be on the ground at all times, unlike in running where you're suspended in the air. They'd probably get penalized by seconds, and if not, disqualified.
tcslick420 1 year ago
@lechodemeista Oh, also, your knees can not be bent. That's also an infraction.
tcslick420 1 year ago
I wish I could run that fast.

@sheldons7 Jeferson Perez is my sister's friend. He's not feminine at all, he's a very macho man, it's that sport that make them look like that.

is that exhausting?

I think that is would be very difficult to judge the real waling and to actually make you u do it when the athlete does it. I think there is some major cheating...
Also, it just looks like clumsy jogging. so just jog...

This is like a run to the bathroom when it's too late...
jamesz5000 1 year ago 87
@jamesz5000 hahahaha, that's funny. Look's like they need to go to the bathroom when it's too late.
I do speed walking on the treadmill though and it burns off about 400 calories. I don't move my butt like that though or move my hands that way, I just walk fast.

What would you call a bike race with some of the worlds best endurance athletes riding fully capable bikes, but they weren't allowed to shift out of 1st gear?? ......boring.
I mean seriously... its walking.

How is walking a sport? Anyone can walk. If couch sitting ever becomes an Olympic event, I have years of training!

And the advertisers play on this... for instance, Kristin Armstrong not only isn't related to Lance Armstrong, but she's retired anyway.

back off dick....I just said that maybe you would be happier someplace else instead of wasting YOUR valuable time bitching about shit you cant do anything about and seems to do nothing but piss you off enough make you want to write out really negative shit.
And if you would read and understand what I wrote than you would see that I am NOT opposing free speech
but rather offering a comment that basically said "if it pisses you off that much....why are you here?".
zencat999 1 year ago
I did try to explain what racewalking is so you can see at least the facts that you and muffin seemed to be confused or unknowledgable about.( or making fun of.....it really is the original "silly walk")
THATS free speech......helping each other to learn.
now.....
go smoke a joint or drink a beer....kick back and relax...........
its just life brotha..

@zencat999
Cheers!
TheStereoField 1 year ago
This is walking i.e ...."not lifting your back toe until your lead heel is on the ground"....i.e. not leaving the ground....its walking not running or jogging and it takes a great deal of discipline to achieve the speeds that the pros go at.
which BTW is probably faster than you can run.
.
at least TheMuffinman421 posed a question to learn more about it.
and...ya it looks like we just ate a bunch of bad apples and were lookin for a place to "blow a load" real bad in a hurry.
rules dictate form

zencat999 1 year ago
its not necessarily about speed. its about mastery of the form.
once you have mastered the form you can do anything within it.

I´m shure that 90% of people here can´t even walk chewing gum, oh wait, they even walk, if you are a proffesional runner (at least if you do 1 hour of exercise per day) then you can talk about walking as a sport (by the way, walking is healthier than running just for general knowledge)
LMBAA 1 year ago
@LMBAA no youre totally wrong. the only bad thing about running is the toll is takes on your joints. other than that, running is 10000 times better than walking. you dont do anything when you walk. youre probably just too much of a fatass to run so you walk and say that its legitimate exercise.
ru4ku92 1 year ago
@ru4ku92 ok, are you part of a secret pro-active group o runners against people that walks? .... just for you to know... you are right!! congratulations! I don´t run, I am a terrible runner, besides that, it makes my head explode (hedache)... anway you are wrong in other thing, I´m not a fatass, actually I was a professional swimmer until I left it for other sport, an exiting one though, I was a surfer until I started college and I could go to the beach all day anymore, but guess what, I started
LMBAA 1 year ago
@ru4ku92 with artistec roller skating (I used to do ice.skating, but it was too easy for me, roller is harder) well, apart of that, I also go to the gym, 3 hours from monday to thurday and do Yoga and dancing, oh! I was forgetting something, for my brain I play chess, and my parents are nutricional doctors sooo I´m a very healthy girl.
bye bye, have a good night.
LMBAA 1 year ago
Ok people lets explain something. Some of you say "Why dont they just run?" Number one this is race "walking" Secondly, running and walking are two DIFFERENT excersises, which make them different sports.
Bigrobkerr 1 year ago
exusme.your knee must be straight from the point your toe-heel touches the ground and you use way more of your core race walking than jogging/running. there is nothing stuck up your butthole...but u can stick one up yours to try if you'd like :)
