Ever since her birth, the girl has been told that she had a fiancée. She was brought up being taught how to be a proper wife, and at night, she offered prayers for her fiancée while facing the scenery outside her window. “Lord XX, I eagerly await the day of your arrival.”
Several other girls lived in the house that she lived in. They were all brought up being taught how to be proper wives, and at night, they offered prayers for their fiancées while facing the scenery outside their windows. “Lord XX, I eagerly await the day of your arrival.”
One day, the girls had an argument about whether or not the most brilliant of them will be the only one chosen by their fiancée. The girls stubbornly clung to their claim that they were best suited as a fiancée, and their caretaker spoke to them gently. “Don’t worry, you will all be Lord XX’s wives.” Hearing that, all the girls broke out into smiles.
On the day of the wedding, the girls were brought to a place with stone pavements that could be seen from their windows. One dagger was given to the girls. They were told that to meet their fiancée, they have to kill themselves right here. Hearing that, the girls fought for the dagger and committed suicide. Afterwards, a temple was built on where the girls died. The temple’s name was the name of their fiancée.
Apparently there was a thing called Grimoire Nier published in Japan which among other things includes short backstories for the different weapons. It seems like interesting stuff.
@Crowley9 Yup, I actually read some of a translated version you can find online (I Googled it and found a link on a forum post) regarding the how the developers felt about the endings they did and the aftermath, it's really pretty depressing, but it's interesting to hear about their thoughts on character relationships, story details, all of that stuff. It had a lot of other details in it that I didn't read, it's a pretty hefty bit of info. :P
@Crowley9 Go ahead, I'll probably pass over the weapon stories at one point or another, and just tell about how they all have stories to them and the connection to all the Drakengard weapons and such, but if you want to go more in depth with it in the comments section then I dig it, maybe I'll add it to the description too granted you don't mind. XD
The Lost Shrine appears to be some kind of old residential building or hotel. It appears lost in a sense that it belongs to a time or people long past, rather then being physically lost. For those seeing this game for the first time, keep in mind that it takes place in the far future. All the ruins you see are part of our civilization which has collapsed for some unknown reason. This will make some of the stuff later make more sense.
@Redfordcrate Yeah, I guess I could sort of see it as a hotel, lots of unnecessary segmented rooms and hallways, but for the sake of being something of a semi-dungeon I guess it makes sense. Aside from the elevator shafts I never saw it as anything but a temple or shrine though. The big moments where I noticed the signs of a past civilization were of course the Junkheap and the broken bridges in the distance of Seafront. Then of course during endgame, but enough about that XD
Believe it or not, there actually isn't any translation for the music, as it's all a fictional language inspired by several real ones, including Gaelic. I do wish there were real translations though... D:
@HeavyxMedic53 I've seen some people try to lyricize the words so it's at least readable. You can actually see some phrases from the game used in the lyrics as well, like Gestalt, which is actually the German word for "Shape" if I remember right.
@DarkxDizi So does every other attack you do from my experience with the game XD Usually enemies that are weak enough to be downed die within seconds anyway, so I find just walloping them to death is the faster method in most cases.
@IcySeaSurfer We do that sometime around episode 5 or 6 I think. We take on the boar early with cheap tactics and find out just how much health he has XD

@Quadraxis14 Fair enough. Always struck me as extra-speedy, but maybe it's just a placebo effect for me.

A useful thing might be to go into options and turn on enemy health bars.
