if you want to know what is metal and what is not, go to metal-archives; if the band is present there, it is metal in some way, if it is not present, then it is not metal

so, As I Lay Dying (who I once listened to when I was still uneducated in the metal music) are 'metal', and Slipknot for example are not present in MA, therefore they are not metal :)

@GoG4o2 metal archives are bullshit too, they post all they like, not only metal, they have a ton of ambient and norwegian folk stuff there, many of those bands have members who used to play in metal bands but not anymore and that part of the rules is clear enough, non-metal side projects go in as along as they are side projects and not main bands, if any important admin in the encyclopedia metallum starts liking korn then he will post them in the archives too.

And arent independent enough to go all the way. Im really curious about your opinion about newer stuff, like the modern death metal, folk metal, etc. (theres SO much to say, no enough room to say it, or people just wont listen...)

2. Metalcore is just that - metalcore. It's more based in (modern) hardcore than anything, and only shares elements of metal. It is not metal as a whole.

3. Whatever. If you think classic metal bands are "generic" you should reconsider listening to metal then.
