there are no more true champions like magic, bird and jordan, today players play for diamonds and not pride and honor...the lockout is a great proof of that..great documentary by the way..
I think todays players would dominate the nba of the 80´s. Ofcourse players like Bird and Magic are extremely skilled. Maybe even more than todays players. I just don´t think they could stand up to modern players physically. I mean just look at this video. 80´s players look like they have no muscles.
What´s missing today is passion. The game has become too sterile for my taste. The Celtics and Lakers fought wars on the court. Same goes for the Bulls and Pistons.
@berserkur7 They are important, but I think fundamental skill will trump these current guys most of the time. Also, a lot of these guys have horrendous basketball IQs.
@berserkur7 Then realize that Steve Nash or Dirk Nowitzki received the MVP Award each year from 2005-2007 and you might see how off-base you happen to be.
By the way, James Worthy, Byron Scott, and Michael Cooper were much faster and more athletic than most players now and Danny Ainge proved athletic enough to play in both the NBA and in MLB. And the game was much more physical in those days, as seen in this video.
you celtic fans are all in denial magic and bird met 4 times in the finals 1 college 3 nba and magic won 3 of those plus bird only has 3 rings, magic has 5 rings and after birds 3 ring he couldnt even reach the finals come on you have to admitted it lakers were and are at the time the better team plus lakers franchise has won championships more consistently then the celtics.
bird had that "what can i do for basketball attitude" unlike today, the attitude now is "what can basketball do for me" i.e. how many bitches, how much money, and how famous can i get me.
Kareem elbowed Bird in the head because of what McHale had done to Rambis a few plays before. It was a cheap dirty play and Jabbar was the real leader of the Lakers.
They were both leaders of their respective teams and they were showing it there.
It was a fierce series. Some of the best basketball ever played.
yeah seriously, i love watching lebron and kobe and the rest, the nba in the mid 90's wasnt that great to be honest. You take out michael and hakeem and charles, most of those teams back then were TERRIBLE to watch. The game has got alot more athletic and interesting now.
so let me be the one to enlighten you about the players in 90s. David robinson, ewing, webber, shaq, grant hill, penny hardaway, richmond, payton, malone, kemp, stockton, mourning, tim hardaway, reggie miller, chris mullin, jason kidd, and the list goes on. it wasn't looked that great because MJ dominated it. i could go all day with the great supporting cast
I watched every game of that series when I was thirteen years old. It was such a gutsy performance by Bird and he really did will every one of those wins. I have never seen a player that wanted to win like bird did. He really was something. Magis summed it all up by saying there will never be another larry bird. He was a warrior
people i fucking hate how the rich corporate cocksuckers in suits hog alot of the seats in the lower half of the stadium for NBA games now... all the real fans of teams are sequestered to the nosebleed sections.. we should just have corporate boxes for those people and let the real fans enjoy the game up close like it was meant to be
Now this is real basketball! No rich spoiled prima donna cry babies. There is only sweat 'n tears with good ol fashion intensity. NBA isn't as good like the 80's. I miss Magic and Bird they were the best!
i just love watching the last part of part 4 with larry's "no heart" comments and then putting this on and it starts with an evil theme song and the closeline. Awsome. Just goes to show how the guys rallied around bird. Bird... what an inspirational story.
@terrorofsesameST Larry Bird may have shoved Michael Cooper in the heat of the battle, but in his book Bird praises Michael Cooper says that Cooper is the only player can guard him.
I know and Cooper was a hell of a defensive player!! But I just laugh about it because I'm a Celts fan and this rivalry is so heated and you don't see stuff like that often and just made it funny. But I def. agree w/ Bird on praising good defenders you have to respect them because they're working 2x as hard to guard u.
Larry even looks like a bird lol
