I have been a public school custodian for almost 30 years. They have taken 7% of my salary from the beginning and put it in PERS (public employees retirement system). Yes, I had better get my money back out of it or I will flip a wig... Hard work, little pay, but the benifits, incl. retirement, makes it worth it... I was a California high school teacher and I left after living there since 1958. I got out of the US five years ago when it was getting bad. It's gone from bad to worse. Now they're laying teachers off.

Right now this is May, they will have to letting the ones they gave pink slips too if they are coming back in the fall. All the counties and cities will be laying off workers in the next 3 months to try to balance the budget shortfall they have!!! But the state just keeps on hiring!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, California has some very nice places, Big Bear, Napa Valley, Modesto, Mammoth, Bishop, Simi Valley (before they moved in and changed it forever), and some other places. And some nice people, I am sure you are one of them. But it is, what it is.

BTW My mother, daughter, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 1 great nephew, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and many friends going back to grade school, all still live in California.
