i have a bala shark with 6 small tetras hes been fine up until latley he sometines will go after a neon theyre only in a 30 gallon for now check out my vids to see his size so u can learn
Bala sharks aren't aggressive they are really passive and shy when first introduced into a tank but they do need a lot of swimming space at least 100 gallons for 3 and remember they do grow to about a foot long. Hope you have good luck :)

Is it okay to put a janitor fish or the sucker-mouth catfish altogether with the neons and black neon tetras?....in my tank, I bought some black neons, but only one survived....... I also have striped rapahel, dwarf gourami, buenos aires tetras, zebra danios, and guppies in my tank....it's plenty of plants though....im just sad that none of my neons survived and only one black neon was left....please help confirm this if my combination of fishes was just alright...

can you help me i have a very aggresive lemon tetra is this normal behavoir for them i have 4 of them but one just started to attack all the other and not my neons or corys idk y can anyone answer
If I remember hearing and reading correctly, black neons and neon tetras don't go together. Black neons are from an ENTIRELY different family than Neons so they won't work. I recommend not putting them together unless you have like a 90-gal tank with plenty of hiding spaces.
Someone said something about it being pregnant, which wouldn't be possible since they're not livebearers. Possible if she had laid eggs on that side of the aquarium though, and was trying to protect them. But what I've done to curb aggression is to take the fish out, move things around, and put them back in. That way they don't know where their territory is anymore and generally won't try to claim territory again. Just for a future reference in case this happens again. =]
branfrog, I also have a black neon tetra that is pretty territorial and takes up a big chunk of space for itself. There are bound to be fish that are aggressive no matter what the species. I also had a neon tetra was aggressive.
Neons are supposed to be very peaceful, and shouldn't bite each other. Make sure you are not over crowding the tank, a nice beginner rule is to have 1" of full grown fish per gallon of tank, in your case this would be about 7 fish for capacity. If that isn't it, maybe one of the fish is pregnant?
I have a rogue tetra too, had him for a few months but don't know which one it is (could just be all of them) but it comes and goes and i don't worry about it nothing usually comes of it.
WOW! That's actually the first good 'constructive' piece of advice i've heard yet..In fact, think you could be right! This bugger was returned to the fish shop after filming this as it was stressing everyone out!!! Hopefully she had a good birth at the fish store, and if the fish store was savvy enough, hopefully they made a profit on the babies!
sure, I once had a betta with a whole mess of other peaceful fish! The betta is actually a calmer fish than the tetras..Just make sure its only 1 betta otherwise it will fight.
Totally! Its an Otocinclus affinis to be exact but they rock! I got 2 in this tank and they stay little, about 1-1.5". These guys ignore the algae wafers I feed them, preferring to just eat algae in the tank and fish flakes that fall to the bottom of the tank. A very low maintenance fish to add to any planted tank!
Same here!! I have 2 in my tank! Unfortunatly my tank isnt planted and once i cleaned it and scrubed the sides and i could have sworn they were mad at me! Hahaha!!
he's racist =P just kidding, must be jelous he doesn't shine as much as the others...
don't know, it just might be his personality or the neon are just a bunch of wussies, I know mine are, the second I turn on the aquarium light they swim like hell and hide inside the sunken ship and that's 4 out of 5 that hide, the 5th is always hiding and the cardenal just doesn't care( cardenal is the 6th and the big cheese, the head honcho, the neons are his/her followers)
i guess, for the convenience factor...kinda depends on the quality of the equipment. You might want to individually look up each item you are getting and see comparable prices and comparable brands.
i've just bought 10 blcak tetra and they are in a 15 gallon tank i hav had them 4 3days now, there not very active, they just stay in one corner but wen i turn the light off they are fine and act like normal blck tetra is the normal and will they change lol ;)
You should get a couple more neons & black neons. They like larger schools, so maybe try 7-8 of each. Nice tank by the way, and that is deffinately NOT a penguin tetra, as they have a black line that extends to their tail, and this one has only a black line. They also tend to stay mid-top level of the tank, and black neons tend to stay at the bottom-mid level. Great video too.
This particular Black Neon Tetra was introduced to the tank with 4 other Black Neons, they are not seen in this video because they are keeping their distance from him. He really just had a bad attitude, the others are all doing very well and living in harmony since the rouge was returned to the fish store where we bought him. Perhaps it is a question of numbers like you mentioned, hopefully he will be happier in a bigger school.
The rouge is a Black Neon Tetra. The black stripe of a Penguin Tetra extends all the way through its lower tail fin and is unaccompanied by a silver stripe. Its hard to see in this video, but Penguins also tend to swim with their bodies tilted upwards.
This could be due to stress, but very unlikely. Seperate this fish into another tank by itself for about ten days and re-introduce it to the regular tank. That way, it is viewed as the "newbie" in the tank. He should act with less authority, and be viewed with less authority. You can repeat this pattern over if it does not work the first time, but if this process does not work, then this fish is just being a real asshole.
it might be from bad water conditions stresing it so it looks for the cleanets part of the or brightest part of the tank. they like the lite its good for there skin ?
yeah you just had one nasty little bugger, mine sometimes go for each others tails like they are scarying each other off and there seems to be one who goes on his own for a bit but no bullying like what you have here.
That is correct branfrog, Penguin tetras sublateral and lateral line (black and green stripes) continue on to the end of the lower lobe of the tail. I paused this clip and I am positive that this is not a Penguin tetra, but a Black Neon Tetra

It's a 'black thing' you wouldn't understand. The 'brother' fish has been oppressed by THE MAN so long that he is finally standing up and fighting the power!
also neon tetras and black neon tetras are not the same species the black ones were named that because thats what they look like but they are not neons that have been alterd or bred that way
well i have heard that black neon tetras can become territorial in an enviroment they consider "hostile" but that tank looked perfect for it.. interesting
Update: 2 days after this was filmed and after many suggestions, the "Rouge" was brought back to the LFS. The "rouge" was causing a lot of stress to his tank mates as well as himself. rouge noun
1. any of various red cosmetics for coloring the cheeks or lips.
2. a reddish powder, chiefly ferric oxide, used for polishing metal, glass, etc.
rogue noun
1. a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel.
2. a playfully mischievous person; scamp: The youngest boys are little rogues.
3. a tramp or vagabond.
4. a rogue elephant or other animal of similar disposition.
10kensea79 1 year ago
@10kensea79..."3. a tramp or vagabond."
Syn. vagabond: adj.
1. Of, relating to, or characteristic of a wanderer; nomadic.
2. Aimless; drifting.
3. Irregular in course or behavior; unpredictable.
"irregular in course or behavior" hence the question "aggressive behavior?", good use of your dictionary anyway! :D

WilbertVereAwdry 3 years ago
Your fish look like they're under a lot of stress.
1. Try not to combine species unless you have 6 or more of each.
2. Your neons look like they're under stress. I recommend reducing the light by 80%, or get black gravel and reduce it by 50%.
3. If you have a filter running, you may want to get a smaller one.
Stressed neons usually end up being dead neons.
