I was wondering whether to buy this with the 18-55mm kit lens for £519 or a Canon 1000D with the 18-55mm and 75-300mm for £440, is it worth spending the extra for the more megapixels or less for another lens? Any suggestions?
@DavidC959 i would really suggest you go for the better camera, as it is always cheaper to buy an extra lens then to upgraded you camera body in a couple of months ! for the Canon 500D !
@Macintoshblogger I think it is the opposite, I have a canon eos 7D, and my standard (canon ef 24-105mm f/2.8) costs almost the same as my 7D. So if you really want good image quality, it is also with the lens, because the sharpness of the image and the color comes from the lens not the camera. A lot of my favorite lenses are at the price of 2000 Euros even some macro lenses.... Less pixels means less details but cheaper lenses has less sharpness and bad focusing system.
This camera only gives you full HD (1080) at 20 fps which is unusable. Sorry dude but i really think you should return that thing quickly and get the 550d which is so much better. Trust me the 550d has everything this camera doesn't have and you'll realise that in while after using it. The video features on the 550d are such a step up from this camera that it should be illegal to sell the the 500d without giving the customer all the details of the difference. There is NO mic input so you know!!
File sizes in video are quite large as Canon dont compress as much as Nikon cameras. Also regarding memory card you will need class 6 or above for HD video.
so how long does the battery typically last?

I'm sure that isn't a microphone input, I think you're on about the 550D there.
