  • 1:59 the game changer no doubt

  • URBAN MEYER HATED by hitler.... DONT EVER WATCH THAT VID.

  • I remember watching this game. A very different Penn State today, Jan. 2 2011.

  • One has to wonder what the hell happened to the Pitt offense after 14-0?

  • This game was the beginning of a bad ending to Marino's college career. They always said he should have left as a Jr. I agree with him staying for his degree but his Sr season just sucked.

  • This was the game that introduced me to the weirdness of college football. I was only 9 at the time but when they were showing the replays of this game on the news that night, they showed a Pitt cheerleader crying. I remember thinking to myself, "What's the big deal? It's only 1 loss." Little did I know at the time that you can lose a game in college football and screw up your entire season. Thank God that's all changed.......Oh right, it hasn't.

  • is this the record for worst loss by a #1 college team?

  • LOL....Pitt clings to that latest 12-0 victory like it's some sort of true semblance of what happened in the rivalry. PLEASE. Lions own Panthers any day. Look at the history.

  • @joshuaperryhayes diddlers

  • As I have said before, since that 1981 season, Pitt Football hasn't been a power. Yes, a lot of it has to do with their inconsistent run of coaches. But, IMHO, I think this loss has really shook the program. Let's see what new coach Todd Graham can do. And, folks, this rivalry is still in people's blood. You hear Pitt fans chanting, "Penn State sucks" at many sporting events. And, when either program loses a heartbreaker, the fans of the other team flood that losing team's message board.

  • @gymman1031 Maybe Pitt dislikes Penn State a little more, but more Penn State fans still hate and pay attention to Pitt than it seems. When Pitt lost the heartbreaker to Villanova in the 2009 Elite Eight and the heartbreaker in football to Cincy for the Big East Title in 2009, Penn State fans were rabid when they were on the Pitt message boards. I WANT to see this rivalry come back. I have great respect for both teams.

  • I vividly recall ABC's sideline cameras repeatedly fawning over Marino's smiling parents and proud family when everything was going his way in the 1st quarter. By the 4th quarter of this drubbing, we'd had a few too many beers, and it was getting dark. Out for blood, we bellowed, "C'mon ABC, where the h*ll is Danny's family now?!! We want another another close-up of those smilin' happy parents. Where's Danny's mom?!!" I really miss the intense emotions of this vicious intrastate rivalry.

  • I remember going to the game at Temple University.

I told everyone that Marino would never win an NFL championship.

  • Pitt jumps out ahead 14-0; PSU scores 48 unasnwered pts. Unbelievable upset

  • One of the best smackdowns in football history. Penn State comes from behind 14 - 0 in the 1st q to score 48 unanswered points at old Pitt Stadium.

  • how is it Dan's fault for 40 points what do you want him to do tackle better WTF

  • Often, a heartbreaking, embarrassing, and stunning loss can curse a program for years. And, IMHO, although people blame coaching as the #1 reason, I think this loss has cursed Pitt Football for years. But, they had a 10-win season in 2009, and they are going to get better.

  • Of course in the pro's, Dan NEVER had a running game to complement the passing offense.

  • for some reason it was never meant for dan to win the big ones. he didnt win the national in college or the superbowl in the pros.

  • Ohio State and Michigan WHO!!!! Pitt and PSU rivalry blows that out of the water

  • @PENS68

LOL. No one gives a fuck about PSU-Pitt. If they did, they never would've stopped playing.

  • @RequiemForABuckeye ---PSU decided to join the Big 10. Otherwise they would be playing this game among storied rivals indefinitely. You dont knwo what you are talking about

  • @RequiemForABuckeye Excuse me, Restroom for a Schmuckeye: who asked ya'? No one i know gives a rats ass about Schmuckeye U. Now be nice or we'll all root for Michigan!

  • @dougalmac54 funny - I miss this rivalry. It was the best of college football on the Thanksgiving Holiday...

  • @Bearses At my parents house in State College, this was a major Thanksgiving weekend event. Tons of Thankgiving left-overs, plenty of Rolling Rock ponies on ice, and turkey and swiss sandwiches on rye with lettuce, tomatoes and Heinz (of course) pickles. Some of my favorite memories. Especially this game, living in Austin, TX, and being the only guy in the bar screaming for Penn State. And loving every minute of this game after we tied it at 14-14. Yeah, it's too bad we lost this PA tradition.

  • @dougalmac54 you would think both programs would re-ignite this rivalry because I am tired of watching Nebraska vs. Colorado the day after Tgiving...good memories indeed - thanks for sharing...

  • @Bearses --yeah, waht a shame PSU joined Big 10 and eliminated this gm

  • @loyaldude10 Are you an idiot? Penn State offered Pitt to to create the All Eastern conference, and Pitt Said no. Penn State tried to join the BE, and Penn State was not allowed, speculated that Pitt voted that they could not come in. Pitt dug their own grave. The rivalry seems to return in 2016. Can't wait to see Heinz Field covered in white

  • this was the best rivalry north of the mason-dixon line

  • I will never forget this game, when Marino put his fingers up #1, and then PSU went on a tear. These were probably the best two teams in College that year, with apologies to that Clemson team. If things would have worked out differently, either PSU or Pitt could have won the championship every year from 76-82. I miss this rivalry.

  • wasnt this the highest the two schools were ranked when they played each other?

  • As a Clemson fan, we can't thank Penn St enough for this win over Pitt... it propelled us to #1 and eventually the Natl title in 81. Thank you PSU!

  • Awesome!!!!!

It's amazing to see how many people mob the players after each score. I imagine that would be frowned upon these days.

  • that was a huge win i mean over marino. and beating a number 1 rankedteam going down 14 right aways and scoring 48 unanswered points thats one of the best wins in the history. WE ARE PENN STATE.

  • This could be the greatest Penn State victory over Pitt in the rivalry-absolutely fabulous. JoePa must have really enjoyed hanging this beating on Jackie Sherrill. I'll bet that was one helluva bus ride back to State College! For the Glory, baby!

  • It was Jackie Sherrill's last in the rivalry...I miss playing Pitt. To me there is no reason we can't play them. I don't care what anyone says this rivalry is too good to be discontinued. In a perfect world or mine at least I would have the 8 Big Ten games, Pitt and ND on the schedule and 2 scrub games

  • I think this great video is missing only 1 critical play. I recall a Marino pass that was completed near the PSU goal line in the first quarter but PSU hammered the receiver and the ball was then intercepted. I'm not referring to the interception in the end zone by PSU. I think this missing play was the turning point. At that point Pitt was driving again ready to make it 0-21. Am I dreaming or does anyone else recall this play. Best game ever.

  • Robinson returns int. for 80+ -- with one shoe!

  • You gotta love it-the defense scores the final touchdown in this ULTIMATE embarrassment of Pitt.

  • Comment removed

  • @geoscobark Linebacker U. puts the hammer down on Dan Marino. 48 unanswered points. The worst smack-down I ever saw Penn State put on Pitt, unless you count the 65-9 destruction of Pitt in 1968.

  • @dougalmac54 was this game played during a weekday? i seem to remember playing sick so my Dad cam to the school at lunch and picked me up....he knew i was faking but watching football especially Penn St. was a bond we had...i just remember it being an afternoon game on a thursday or friday.....maybe it was Thanksgiving?

  • dUSChe

  • Yeah, this was the same year PSU BEAT USC and Marcus Allen in the Fiesta Bowl, 26-10. After they beat Ohio State the year before in the Fiesta Bowl.

  • @sportsdude9999

    SANCTIONS SANCTIONS SANCTIONS SANCTIONS SANCTIONS

    Cheaters got caught . . .

  • One of the greatest wins in PSU history. sPITT sucks

  • haha McCoy this year said that Pitt would "blow out" PSU. I'm pretty sure they lost 3-0 to a team PSU beat 45-14.

  • I wish Pitt would go back to those jersey's

  • I've watched this a few times, and totally blown away how Penn State saddled up and took care of business. 14-0 , then 48-0 unanswered, Interesting. Do you have clips of the 1992 Fiesta Bowl vs. Tennessee? Similar games was USC/ND 1974, OKLAHOMA STATE VS. TEXAS 2004.

  • i need someone smart to keep me entertained

    looking for friends Oz

  • What an ass-whuppin'. And yet these Pitt bozos on here keep tryin' to talk smack. The rivalry was never the same after this-Pitt is dead compared to Penn State, like it oughta be...

  • yeah, right. keep dreamin' pal!

  • If it was played in Beaver Stadium....Pitt has not a shot in hell. If it was played at Heinz Field, I give Pitt a better chance but Pitt this year is way too inconsistent passing the football. LeSean McCoy maybe a beast but I think "Beanie" Wells is a better runner and you saw what happened at the Shoe

  • didnt PITT still go on to win the Sugar Bowl though? I was not born when this game was played my dad told me about this game

  • but they didn't win the national title game - PSU did. and that's all that matters!!!

  • Penn State didn't win the national championship after this game, it was the next season, knucklehead!!

  • Pitt still hasn't recovered from this loss. Just look at their program, 25+ years of mediocrity.

  • Wow. What a classic. Best video on youtube. You made my day. Thanks!!

  • (1:05)Look at the fuckin cannon arm and lighting release that legend has! My God thats why nobody could ever touch him!

  • I have to keep rewinding the vid just to see Marino's lightning, quick release. No quarterback could release the ball faster and w/ more velocity than Marino.

  • Oh yeah? PSU kicked his ass, plain and simple.

  • Someone forgot to tell State they were playing the number one team! Great video!

  • hahaha GET OWNED PITT. GO PSU!!

  • someone must have told the shittsburgh players that the first team to 14 wins,,,,,,,and shittsburgh u hasnt done shit since.

  • It really is sad that we no longer have the opportunity to play Pitt. As much as I hate Pitt it would be better for both teams if we played and both were title contenders once again.

  • hey chrisuncleahmad penn state beat usc 26-10in the fiesta bowl dude.

  • pitt didnt even look like the #1 team during that game and they had dan marino.

  • How did Penn State do in their bowl game after beating Pitt?

  • They beat Southern Cal & Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen in the Fiesta Bowl 26-10.

  • God, I love this! PSU ANNIHILATES Pitt! It doesn't get any better than that! Except beating scUM and the schmuckeyes!

  • Wish there was a highlight video of the time we creamed Ohio State 63-14.

  • Penn State fans tend to be elitists and I can see why. I have a BA and MA from Pitt and our campus is ugly, the football team stinks, and Penn State is rated five spots higher in academic rankings. It is a connection to my home and family that kept me at Pitt. After visiting State College for the first time, I agree with my PSU grad girlfriend that PSU has a better campus, better spirit, and slightly better academics, but I wish PSU people could understand Pitt isn't a lousy school b/c of football.

  • There's a joke around here that those who can't get into Penn State go to Pitt, and those who can't get into Pitt go to Ohio State. Both of those aren't really true, but as you said, Penn State does have higher academic standards. But on the other hand, I realize that UPitt is a great university, and not some community college.

  • Most Penn Staters work in downtown Altoona, Johnstown, and State College. There's plenty of jobs in Central PA. But maybe Pittsburgh offered the job that some of them want maybe that other places don't. Should they change their college football affiliations because one city offered them the job they want? That'd be like asking an Ohio State grad who moved to Pittsburgh or Altoona to suddenly turn on the Buckeyes. Although they might be unpopular in PA, they have every right to like their team.

  • Hopefully, this video will educate this generation as to why this rivalry should NEVER have been canceled It is going to take the governor to pull this off like the WV governor got Marshall and WVU together

  • My dad always told me about this game, and I never thought I'd be able to see it. He was a PSU grad (c/o '73, now I'll be a junior at PSU) who went to this Pitt game as a grad student. I wish PSU still had a bloodlust rivalry like Pitt, you can feel the energy of the crowd right through the video.

  • Well, we have Ohio State. They've been our rival since 1912, and although some may not admit it, Ohio State fans hate Penn State like Pitt fans do. Michigan's also a rival, but only because of a few bad calls in a few games. But I think as far as "love to hate" rivalry, Ohio State is it. I know that since 2001 we've only beaten them twice, but we came really close in 2003 and 2006, and Michigan's only beaten them once since 2001. But I agree that we need to renew the Penn State-Pitt rivalry.

  • I'm a Maryland fan and at one point Penn State was a big rival of ours besides our traditional rivals WVU and U-Va. Sadly the Terps only beat the Lions once back in 1961 although through the balance of the 70's into the early and mid 80's (The Jerry Claiborne & Bobby Ross Years), even though we lost most of those games, we gave the Lions fits, especially in '86 and '88. Other than that, PSU has great tradition, classic uniforms and has put many players in the NFL over the years, some in Canton.

  • 1986 was especially surprising, since the 1986 team was arguably one of the best ever produced, but Maryland is a good football team. We saw that in 1984 where they stormed back after being down 31-0 at halftime, and managed to actually put Miami away before the game was over.

  • I agree with you about the '84 Miami game and during those years, we won the ACC 3 years in a row from '83 to '85 (Clemson was on NCAA Probation in '83 & '84). In '86, Bobby Ross' final year at Maryland before the football program went downhill for the rest of the 80's while the aftereffects of Len Bias' death were still being felt in College Park, we went up to Happy Valley and lost by 2, 17-15 and then in '88 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, we played the Lions to a 13-13 tie.

  • I'd love to see Maryland and Penn State play each other again someday. Good news is, it looks like the Lions are renewing some old rivalries. Penn State plays Syracuse this year in the Carrier Dome. Could be interesting, Penn State struggles on the road sometimes, but Syracuse has been struggling. In the next few years, Penn State will also renew rivalries with Alabama and Nebraska. Hope to see Maryland, Pitt, and Miami added to that list.

  • I would too before JoePa retires. Maybe the Terps could give the Lions one more close game someday and do a home and home in State College and College Park.

  • Hate OSU? Remember the "Woody is a pecker" buttons? Or the "$Hit on Pitt" buttons?

  • I can remember watching this game in a Pizza/Sub place with my brother, Father and Uncle in Butler, Pennsylvania. Wed been to the Pitt-FSU game earlier that year where Pitt dominated; the only game before this one where they looked vulnerable had been Boston College. Penn St. came in having lost 2 of their last 4 and hadn't looked all that great against a horrible Notre Dame team in Faust's first season. The 2nd quarter interception turned the game around, one of 7 by Pitt that day

  • Penn State's always been a team known to turn around from an adverse situation. For example, with the most recent Alamo Bowl, Penn State was down 0-14 at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, we didn't get another 48-14, but we did get a 24-17 Alamo Bowl win.

  • You are exactly right, Penn State has always had a knack for coming from behind and winning a game when the chips are down I have seen this happen many times over the years, and for some idiots out here to say the game has past JoePa by are full of bullshit, a true testiment to the coaching expertise by one of the greatest to ever coach the game, WE ARE!!

  • PENN STATE!!

I think my favorite come from behind win was the 1994 game against Illinois, but the 2005 game against Northwestern ranks up there pretty high. That was the game that gave us the confidence to get out of the 2000-2004 slump. I don't know why either people are saying that the game has passed Joe by since in 2005 we finished #3, 2006 we were #24, and last year we were #25. I think we finish in the top 20 in 2008 and finally beat Michigan.

  • Pitt should return to those jerseys and helmets. Those were just killer and classic.

That was one of Pitt's finest teams, though the 1978-1981 era was pretty impressive overall for the Panthers talentwise.

  • This was a great game, at least for us at PSU. I remember seeing Dan Marino taking his helmet and flinging it in frustration on the sidelines, that defense with Walker Lee Ashley, Roger Jackson and Co handed his tail to him. Todd Blackledge and Curt Warner were unstopable in this game.

  • This is one of my favorite Penn State games of all time. During the regular season I generally wish Pitt well, but when they play Penn State I want to see a huge Penn State win. I miss seeing the two schools play each other.

  • Why doesn't Pitt play PSU anymore? It should be a state rivalry.

  • This was a great rivalry. They need to bring it back. I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 70's. It was a good rivalry. I like to see Pitt get back to the top.

    Probably should of kept Gottfried.

  • WE are... PENN STATe and we dominate sucky pitt

  • WOW! This was a great rivalry. It's a shame the PSU atheltic department doesn't want it renewed. I mean it has to leave a bad taste in their mouth that the final game, played last century, in this rivalry was won by Pitt. I admit I've sorta lost track, concentrating on Pitt-WVU instead. So I don't know how the big rivalry between PSU and MSU is going. I know my PSU friends want to see it back and bring up memories of this game, but I can only remember the last one now.

  • Actually there was one game played this century, in 2000, but Pitt did win it.

  • Pitt's my third favorite team, so I usually wanna see them do great, but if they play against Penn State (or my second team, Notre Dame), I of course cheer for Pitt to lose. This was one amazing game.

  • bahahaha, one 8 win season since. way to go pitt!

  • Dan Marino sucks. he never won a super bowl.

  • he smoked weed at pitt

  • I heard the rumors that the STEELERS didn't pick him because of that!

  • Awesome video. I want us to renew this series so we can again have the annual beatdown of Pitt.

  • Did the dude lose his shoe on that last INT return for a TD?

  • who are the announcers for this game? I especially want to know where the southern drawl is coming from.

  • The one announcer sounds like Johnny Olsen who was the announcer on The Price Is Right until 1985. Not sure who the other is.

  • The announcers are Bill Fleming and Bill Dooley(the guy with the southern drawl and brother of legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley).

  • thank you for the information.... :)

  • You`re very welcome.

  • BIll Dooley? Are u sure? I am pretty sure its Frank Broyles from Arkansas.

  • Yes i`m sure it`s Bill Dooley, who sounds similar to his brother longtime Georgia coach Vince Dooley. Also Frank Broyles did the Iron Bowl, which was Bear Bryant`s 315th win to pass Amos Alonzo Stagg, later that afternoon.

  • The commentator is former Texas coach Darrel Royal.

  • Wrong it was Frank Broyles from Arkansas. See my above comment.

  • I have a friend who originally is from Maryland, but who just bought a house in Pennsylvania. Now, he says he is a fan of both Pitt and Penn State. Are there many other people who can say that?

  • got my undergrad at pitt and my masters at penn state...

  • sounds like you got smarter as you got older. LOL

  • you can say this game started the downfall of Pitt Football

  • agreed....but there is another reason for the downfall of pitt football. That is coach Dave Wanstedt or however you spell his stupid name. I just wonder how long Pitt is going to put up wiht a losing seasons under him.

  • The real downfall of Pitt Football began when they fired Mike Gottfried. IMHO, Gottfried could have done great things!

  • Too many coaches are fired these days as soon as they have a regular season worse than 8-4. People have to learn that not every season will end 8-4 or better and hold onto coaches that will have a lot of 12-0 and 11-1 years, even if it means the occasional 7-5 or worse year. Gottfried could have easily have been Pitt's Paterno.

  • Absolutely! Gottfried was on the verge of something very special! In his final season, Alex Van Pelt was a star as a freshman quarterback. People thought that, by having offensive-minded Paul Hackett as head, coach, Pitt would throw the ball more often and do a lot better! Boy, they were in for an unpleasant surprise!

  • What an ass pounding!! Pitt sucks. WE ARE...

  • PENN STATE!

  • I hope Pitt and Penn State play before JoePa dies. I want him to take a Pitt ass beating to his grave. Out of respect for JoePa, I don't think Penn State will play Pitt until after he is dead.

  • Pitt beating penn states ass? that looks promising considering the last 3 years

  • OK imagine this situation--I am a PSU student, my sister, cousins all go to Pitt. WE are all fanatic football fans. AFter this game, my relatives would hardly speak to me.

  • Pitt is a joke. They lost to navy on a wendsday night in frount of 15,000 fans 5,000 of which were from navy. Pitt is a pitiful program andm they are dead last in the weakest conference in football. WE ARE...

  • My favorite Penn State moment. I can honestly say that I was sitting in that endzone when he pirouetted and came right at me. It was the Pitt student endzone. I was in law school at Pitt (PSU undrgrad). My future wife and I scored two Pitt student tickets. All the Pitt fans were on my ass when PSU got down 0-14, but it started getting quiet when they tied it. Jackson's TD really shut 'em up. The last quarter was simply bliss, if not orgasmic. It was like a bomb went off.

  • GO NAVY!!! Pitt fawkin' blows

  • serseri

  • Football sux... Basketball rules

  • We ARE Penn State

    Pitt is a JOKE

  • This is definitely significant as how many times in their professional careers did Blackledge get the best of Marino? I must confess that I didn't know Blackledge was this good as a collegiate quarterback. Nevertheless, there's no doubt that he's one of the great analysts in the game today now.

  • Lay off the booze toowon, Pitt is a joke. Wanny is the worst gameday coach in football, nobody does less with more than him. And keep hanging your hat on that 12-0 victory against a PSU team that didn't even go bowling that year. We would be back to the good ol' days of whipping up on your team if the series were to be renewed tomorrow.

  • I disagree. Pitt has been to as many BCS games as PSU. Wanny will get them back, no worries. Trust me, if they renewed the rivalry, which they will, Pitt will do damage. Penn St. will take their lumps this year...And you DO need us and much as we need you. And some uniforms. Jeez, the swoosh is the most exciting thing on it.

  • I forgot, what happened in Pitt's last BCS game? oh yea they got killed by Utah...and by the way Penn State's uni's are classic

  • I forgot, what happened the last time Pitt met Penn State? Oh, right.

  • I forgot, what happened the 7 times before that?

  • These were the rivalries glory days. Shame, the Pitt teams of the early 80s were like the Penn State teams of the late 60s and early 70s, great teams that never got a shot a national championship. It would be cool for them to play again, I am more of a Penn State guy then Pitt(I live closer to the Burgh, and I do support both, sue me. But, I do think JoePa is still harboring a bunch of sour grapes for Pitt turning him down on that All East Conference that he wanted to set up in the 80s.

  • Penn St. sucks. Friggin' Blair Thomas, Curt Warner, D.J. Dozier, Ki Jana Carter losers. Nice uniforms. Jeez, Blue and white. EVERYONE gets white. Penn St. fans better wake up. Who's your rival? Michigan? Nope. MSU? No. It's Pitt. We hate you. We hate your old bag coach who ended the rivalry. By the way, who won the "final game" in the rivalry? If they played for the next 5 years, Pitt would definately win 3 of 5. When JoePa dies, we'll get it on again.

  • Curt Warner was no loser. Warner retired after eight NFL seasons, with 6,844 rushing yards, 193 receptions for 1,467 yards, and 63 touchdowns. He is a three time Pro Bowler (1983, 1986, 1987).

  • When Pitt can consistently beat UConn and at least be competitive with West Virginia give us a call. Until then you are the Temple of Western Pennsylvania.

  • If PSU were to count MNC's (Mythical National Championships) using the criteria PITT uses then PSU has at least SIX MNC's!

  • I love the smug remarks by PSU fans about their proud history and Pitt's lack thereof. Let's total up what matters - National Championships. Pitt has 9, what a joke! PSU has...ooops, they don't have anything close to that.

  • mrcst15 don't you losers ever quit ?? Whine, whine,whine..Still claiming those phoney championships..Good luck at Ketchup stadium this year... LOL

  • Wait they said, "with a schedule not as strong as Penn State's"-just like today, but Penn State can handle the toughest conference in all of football and Shitt can't even handle the Big Least

  • HAHAHA how many of those "championships" were before 1940? give me a break Pitt fan.

  • yes but only one since wwII. all the early ones are'nt really relevant. here's some #'s for ya

Pitt all time record: 645-471-41 56%

PSU all time record: 790-347-43 67%

  • I was a Junior at Penn State and was at this game. ONe of the best ones ihave ever seen. EVen my PItt loving relatives were hating me!!!! ONe of the best games ever for PSU vs Pitt rivalry. I am glad I got to be there for this one.

  • I was a sophomore sitting on the Pitt side wearing a blue & white ski cap, (remember those?). I started getting loud when PSU tied the scored & I actually had some Pitt fans suggest that I leave or that I would get hurt!

So I left by jumping down on to the field and crossing over to the PSU side except I didnt go into the stands, I watched from the PSU sideline the rest of the game. COULD U IMAGINE DOING THAT NOW?

  • I stood next to Franco Harris for most of the 4th Quarter & I was in that sea of people after the game.

I actually went into the locker room after the game & talked to LB Chet Parlavecchio & a few others. TV crews were everywhere.

Two years later I played on that field as a senior midfielder on my schools Lacrosse team & I thought about that 48-14 win that day.

    Great Game Great Day!

  • maybe Penn State should join the confrence they are supposed to be in and solve all the problems?

what are they trying to proove in the big 10 come to their geographic confrence and play with Louisville and West Virginia rather then getting beat up by Mich and OSU

  • Maybe that conference shouldn't have voted against admitting them, twice.

  • WE ARE...

  • Penn state

  • This sucked. I remember watching this game when I was in the 7th grade. Pitt and Marino fell like a house of cards. I think this was the precursor to Superbowl 19 btwn the 49ers & the Dolphins, & an indication of how Marino's career would unfold. He's still my favorite football player of all-time.

  • pitt is afraid to come to beaver stadium and play in front of 110,000 people.if they really wanna play penn state then drop out of the weak big east and join a real conference. dont blame joe for this!!!

  • ... Joe is wicked.... PSU is the only team to fill our stadium in the last 30 years... it's not our fault we can't get anyone to watch our games... Joe made me move to Misissippi... He's mean and he wont renew our unrivalry... Just because we 'sold out' on the Big East All Sports Conference with the other power of the East... Syracuse... C'Mon Joe.. play us please please please.. pretty please! BWHAHAHAHAHA

  • renew the rivalry

PSU and JoePa are wicked scared of playing Pitt

    renew the rivalry

    renew the rivalry

    renew the rivalry

  • you serious? why would they be scared?

  • Because the "Beast of the East" are now battle hardened veterans of OSU and scUM games. The competition just isn't as good in the Big East compared to the Big Ten. And we want another Rose Bowl win!

  • Crap! Do you have any idea what Posluzny and O'Conner or Tamba Hali would have done to Pitt? It's too terrifying to think about it. Talk about weapons of mass destruction? Linebacker U would eat PItt alive! WE ARE PENN STATE. And you're not!

  • Crap! Do you have any idea what Posluzny and O'Conner or Tamba Hali would have done to Pitt? It's too terrifying to think about it. Talk about weapons of mass destruction? Linebacker U would eat PItt alive! WE ARE PENN STATE. And you're not!

  • For one thing, you're telling me you don't want one or the best rivalry in college football renewed, right? Why is that? All, I keep reading is that psu doesn't need pitt, pitt needs psu, to me that's not making any sense at all. College football needs the rivalry, the fans need the rivalry. It was an in state rivalry that was awesome. RENEW IT!

  • No, I have no interest in renewing it & no PSU stands nothing to gain in renewing it (certainly, Pitt would, but that's not my concern). As far as it being a top rivalry, per my earlier post, it just wasn't. Auburn-AL, OSU-UM, Army-Navy, Cal-Stanford, Yale-Harvard, TX-Oklahoma, USC-ND . . .

Those are all better rivalries on a national scale & there are many others. Save for a few years in the 70s, the rivalry was roughly the equivalent to the rivalry between your windshield and a bug

  • This used to be, "THE GAME!" I really don't care about the big ten or big east. What paterno did was ruin something, he ruined the rivalry. That's the bottom line! Renew it!!!!!

  • Puh-leeeez. Since Joe got to PSU, he's owned you guys w/ the exception of a couple years in the Dorsett era. Even your precious Danny Boy had nothing for us.

  • I mean really, it's embarrassing. and Pitt doesn't even have their own stadium, unlike the Nittany Nation third largest city in PA. ((AKA Beaver Stadium!) One good white out and Pitt would run pissing themselves!
