I really wish I hadn't stumbled across this. I love Bauahaus, and Joy Division, but this is terrible. I mean really bad. Last time I saw Pete Murphy live he was being a right prima donna and disrespectful to the audience. Last time I saw Bauhaus they did a great version of Transmission. But ultimately doing versions like this of Atmosphere are just pointless exercises. Shame, real shame.
@bones6868 you don't like it, that's your problem, i like it a'lo, so your comment is just another subjective view, like mine, don't consider yourself something big...
@mamabear0204 This isn't from an official album, this was recorded live from a pre-show bonus during NIN's 2006 With Teeth tour, which Bauhaus was billed on.
It's out there via torrents and other file-share downloads…that sounds shady to some, but frankly, Reznor and Murphy would probably encourage people to go out and find it. There's many other Reznor/Murphy performances (and a batch of Reznor/Murphy/TV on the Radio performances); look them up, they are great.
@reuber1 Look up "Nine Inch Nails & Peter Murphy - Strange Kind of Love/Bela Lugosi's Dead (Live @ Aragon - 8/29/09)". Watch it until the very end. It will blow your mind. The audio recording on this live performance is outstanding. By the way, thanks for responding.
@mamabear0204 Funny you mention that, I actually was there! I yelped as soon as I heard "white on white"; the people around me not familiar with Murphy were confused, but I didn't care. I'm still cheesed that I missed the previous show when they did Kick in the Eye, but the Saturday show made up for it. So glad I made that one.
@reuber1 That is crazy! You are very fortunate to have been there. I once came very close to seeing Murphy perform solo at a day-long summer music festival. Unfortunately for me, he was slated to perform last & my friends (including driver) wanted to leave b/c it was hot & we'd been there 9 hours. I have always regretted not driving separately to that event!
tame version.its not bad but murphy doesnt get it.its not about stylish vocals.its dark, working class and relevant. nobody can do better than curts as thats the sound thats in your head
This is quite the proverbial cover version...I can't understand the non-STAR STATUS that Peter Murphy has achieved. I will say that his voice is the Barry White of 'white dudes' and should be recognized as a primal force of nature. Supposed 'rock stars' of this generation have nothing on this guy--he is still the strongest voice to me. Everyone else simply pales in comparison...

@mattsince69 Peter Murphy won't achieve the rock star status of, say, Bowie because he is a Muslim. He lives by different code of ethics that most music artist don't have, which places him in a different network in music industry.
@1001suns Peter Murphy is a singer/songwriter who had most of his hits prior to converting to Muslim. I don't think the fact that he is Muslim has hindered him in any way from becoming a more famous rock star. I admire his code of ethics but I don't think his code of ethics is any higher than say Bono or Sting who became massive rock stars. His talent certainly should have earned him greater fame than he has achieved but I don't think he really cares about that anyway.
@mattsince69 I could not agree with you more. One of the finest at what he does and he does it with so much passion. You can tell it's a part of him and that even if he didn't make a dime at it he would still be in love with his art!
This and some of the other Peter Murphy covers of Joy Division songs I happened across tonight have heavily impressed me, This is the first time I have heard anyone but Ian Curtis that was capable of making his songs as heart rending as Peter seems to do here. And this comes from someone who has been a fan of both since the late 80's at least.
Actually, Murphy does quite a lot of Joy Division covers. Last time I saw him live he also performed Transmission (and actually did quite well, unlike most covers of that song).
always loved PETER

@mamabear0204 And to further add, from this very 'Joy'ous performance, NIN and Murphy performed Dead Souls, 24 Hours, and Warsaw.

I understand what you are saying about his voice and the way he uses it.
He belongs to the Bowie's dinasty, as David himself spotted very soon... ;-)

Haven't seen or heard of him since the 80s. He was a great performer and had and still has a brilliant voice. He was also very easy on the eyes!
