Let Hong Kong rejoin Britain in some form or another and I hope that Hong Kongers can fight alongside the British in Great Britain's global interests this time.
The Sino British Joint Declaration was an unequal treaty forced upon by China as Britain and Hong Kong were unable to defend HK. The fate of Hong Kong should be left upon Hong Kongers to decide, not by CCP, not by Chinese, and certainly not by the Chinese who have immigrated to Hong Kong since 1997! I hope that Hong Kong can rejoin Britain or at least become an independent city state as part of the Commonwealth and rebuild political ties with Britain again!

A e-petition for our Government to request the Chinese to agree on referendum on whether to return HK to UK was rejected by the Government.
It seems to me that our government don't want to upset the Chinese Communist government. Any return to UK or referendum on that return not allowed in the 1984 treaty - that's why it was rejected.

@TheSmithersy That's right It was called that cos the UN charter forbids colonization and could have asked Britain and other countries to abandon colonization - In the past they were called either British colonies or crown colonies.
But people in such colonies chosen to stay loyal to Britain rather than get independence as the UN wishes and it is a problem for the UN until Britain changed status from colony to overseas territories with self governing.

@9MMRD Unfortuntetly, the Chinese don't see it that way - cos like I said before, HK is declared Chinese sovereignty which mean the PLA will be free to defend it's sovereignty if HK rebels against HK pro-Beijing government and against Chinese rule no matter what the world and the UN would say.
Chinese parliament passed law that bans any independences bids in both HK and Macao the same way as to Taiwan.

@magician226 China will not allow that to happen - 1984 treaty forbids return of British or achieving independence for HK, Britain had promised never to take back HK - Blame Mrs Thatcher who agreed to promise and signed treaty.
China had declared HK Chinese sovereignty which means the PLA will defend and can revoke basic law if there is to be revolt and put harsh marital law on HK - HK people don't like that and they now respect Chinese sovereignty over HK.

Even if Hong Kong become independent, it would still heavily rely on Mainland China because of it's location, it's only a small city.

If not as a British administration, then more likely as a Scottish administration of all three countries of the UK break away cos HK was founded by a Scot.

China have legal rights to block any bids to recover HK and under the 1984 treaty, Britain promised never to take back HK and recognised Chinese sovereignty over HK. Many countries also recognise this. China have UN security seat too so able to block any bids.
